If you can get the antenna in the air, it will help for both Syracuse and Watertown. Having it on a chair on the deck sounds like what I used to do when I lived at Portsmouth and Bath Rd. I could never get Syracuse when I was there like that. But I could get Rochester and Buffalo.

A rotor isn't so great if you plan to record with it unless the computer can move the rotor.
Sorry, the antenna is a CM4880? I can't find the specs for it so if you can point me in the right direction, that would be great.

LOL, that should be 4228HD. A typo. I reason I was trying the chair thing was to try to find a good spot. I was going to go in the attic but that seemed like a pain to run the cable. I would like it close to the room I have my computer in but there is a tree in the way so some channels pixelate a bit.I haven't tried pointing westerly for Rochester or Buffalo. I didn't think they were in play. Thanks for the help though

nice, 4228 is a great choice. does okay for VHF-hi as well.

I don't think WYNF-CD will come in with the attic. But if you can get that up in the air and clear the tree, I think you'll find you can get it or Fox Syracuse.

Rochester and Buffalo are skip days. 45 (CBS) from Rochester appeared regularly for me at night from March to October. I live in Glenburnie now and have some challenges due to the proximity of the TVO and SRC transmitter.

Warning on the preamp, CKWS might give you trouble with overload. I have a channel 11 join-tenna you can borrow if you want to try if its a problem.

Well I went up on the roof and had my wife scan the channels. I was afraid to climb to the peak. Still no sniff of Syracuse channels. I don't have a premap

I own 2 new HDTV's one 54 inch panasonic plasma and another 32 inch lg both say they have the atsc tuner. I have never used this feature before. I live in Kingston Ontario and I hooked up a powered antena rabit ears type and hit the tv input and scanned I didn't pick up any digital channals... Am I doing something wrong? I see posts of people in the area getting some channals. Thanks in advance for any direction you may have for me.

Hi, before we get into your reception can you confirm that before scanning for channels both TVs were set to "Antenna" and not "Cable"? That's a common issue for first time testers. :)

Alao, which neighbourhood or part of town are you in?

It will be under a setup menu, you are looking for where you might add channels, that sort of thing.

Out of curiosity, what type of rabbit ears are they. Do you have any specs?

Hey Leaffanatic,
You must be only a couple of blocks from me. Try to go into your menu and select choose TV. Then see if there is the option to choose cable or air

I was having this problem too! I'm a first time tester. I plugged the coax into the cable input by mistake instead of the VHF/UHF input in the back of the TV last night. I didn't realize I made that mistake until this morning. Now I'm going to plug the antenna into the correct input and see how it goes.

Aside from plugging into the correct input, is there still something I need to do on the TV to switch the reception from cable to antenna? I have a Sony Grand Wega projection-LCD HDTV - KDF50A10

Nevermind - I found the ANT switch on the remote. I feel foolish now.

Read the manual: at the very least, you need to select the VHF/UHF input using the Ant key on the remote.

I was surprised earliier this week to see a new channel on my tv while checking through my OTA channels . The Cool TV is now broadcasting on 43-2 (rf 44) from Syracuse.

they just also added 68.2 country music, along with 43.2 videos. it seems like just about every station is adding subs in the syracuse / utica ny area. Hopefully more to follow

Hopefully we'll get a closer NBC sub or a fun sub like RTV. My radio works great for music, I don't really need music on my TV :)

I agree, a closer NBC affiliate would be nice. A few months ago, a few of the members, in this area, E Mailed WWNY and suggested adding the NBC WKTV Utica affiliate as a sub channel for WWNY. WWNY is considering this, knowing that Dishnetwork was using WKTV as the NBC affiliate in the Watertown DMA. Directv is going to do the same, once the locals are added, early next year. The only difference that Directv will change, is the division by county, of the NBC affiliate. Jefferson County will add Utica, while St. Lawrence County will add Plattsburgh's WPTZ.

I really hope that WWNY is considering adding a NBC sub. Not that NBC has anything on it that I really watch except for the occasional Law and Order. But as far as being able to sell ditching the cable sub in favour of OTA, NBC is a must have.
Still I'd prefer to have an RTV sub personally.

Yeah, I am hoping for it to happen from the Watertown area. I can get the Syracuse affiliate, about 45% of the time and the Rochester VHF channel 10 about 85% of the time. I do get the Watertown stations 100% of the time and wished that they had a subchannel for NBC, like they do in Elmira, with ABC as the HD Channel and CBS as the subchannel. I also remember the Syracuse NBC being available as a subchannel, on the CBS channel, on RF47, when they were experiencing transmitter problems, last year.

I'm curious if anyone is able to get Global's signal in Kingston. I've been thinking about putting up a dipole specifically for Ch2. I understand that they are not switching over to a UHF channel when the cut-over happens (hopefully I'm wrong on this though).

Yes, I get Channel 2 in Glenburnie. It's a pretty decent signal and cleans up a lot when I use a UVSJ on it. After transition, the move is supposed to be to Channel 8. So in Kingston, we will continue to need best case is a VHF Hi/UHF combo antenna. No word on when CJOH will vacate 6 on analog and move to 49 on digital.

Ah very good, I guess I'll start building my 5 m dipole and see what I can get.
