I have had this CRT RPTV since I bought it new in January 2006, and it recenly started exhibiting a curious problem - the color appears to "drip" on the screen. As in there are defects/deficiencies where one or more color simply isn't being thrown. There are a few drips in Blue and a few in Magenta, and they are located mostly in the center top of the screen. The total effected area is approx 4 inches wide at most and spans the top to the bottom.
See Photo at end of post.
I consider myself an intrepid tinkerer so I located the service manual online, and started disassembling the tv. The convergence appears to still be on and working, since the menus and other messages appear and they don't seem to eshibit any mis-convergence (Convergence IC's are about all I've done before... thank you forum members) Next I cleaned the inside of the lenticular screen, the mirror and the gently cleaned the faces of the guns.
After reassembling the color drip is still there.
even peering through the little port in the rear with the tv on, I don't see any visible voids/defects in the beams from the 3 guns.
Since the "drip" appears to be in one or more of the colors, can I assume it's coming from the guns? Do the newer style CRT RPTV's like this still use a cooling fluid in the guns, and is that something that can congeal or have deposits in it over time? If so are they simple to drain and refill with Glycol Oil or do the newer style like this use something different or not at all?
I can't seem to find many problems online with this set, and I haven't delved into all the models that utilize this chassis yet (P62A) but I haven't found anything similar out there...
Thanks in advance
Brian
