Wondering why some links have ***** in them? This is because they are prevented under our spam prevention policy or are affiliate marketers.

Please read on for more details.

Web Links

Effective April 1st 2010, Digital Home modified its rules regarding the posting of web links. The rules vary somewhat depending on the seniority of the member but our “spammy type web link” rules apply to all.

Junior members (those with few posts or a short tenure with us)

All posts by Junior members will be monitored by our automatic scanner. If the post contains a web link or suspicious "spam" type word, the post will be moderated as per our new member Spam prevention policy (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=65919).

Moderated posts which contain what our moderators consider retail spam links or links that are simple trying to drive our members to the new users website, link-only posts or posts that contain "spammy type web links” (see below) will be declined and will not make it to the site. If in doubt, Junior members should probably avoid posting web links if they want their post up quickly.

Senior members (More than 20 posts and 90 days as a member)

Senior members will generally be allowed to post any web links to any site provided they do not fall into the "spammy" web link category or are link-only posts.

"Spammy Web links"

The following is a list of "spammy type web links" that will not be allowed anywhere on the forum.

Spam links that simply try to solicit members to other sites such as "check out this great website"
Links to classified sites like Craigslist, ebay or kijiji
Links to charities, religious, political, appeal, or petition sites
Retail links to "affiliate marketers" such as Amazon, Dell, Axiomaudio, Monoprice, and NCIX who pay consumers to post "affiliate" links on forums and other websites.
Link only posts
Links to competing forums

Regarding affiliate marketers
Members will still be free to discuss pricing and product being sold by affiliate marketers but any web links to these retailers will show up with **** in them. This is to foil spammers who try to earn money by posting this affiliate links on the site.
