: Rumour: New iPhone announcement on June 22
The blogoshpere is ripe with rumours today that the new iphone will be announced on June 22nd.
Dubbed the iPhone HD, its nothing but speculation at this point.
TorontoColin 2010-04-15, 03:09 PM Of all people, SaskTel's President and CEO may have confirmed it (http://mobilesyrup.com/2010/04/15/sasktels-3g-network-will-be-up-and-running-for-july-1st-confirms-will-have-new-iphone/). Or maybe he has no idea what he's talking about.

Did no one tell the Sasktel guy that you don't mess with Apple and Steve Jobs by pre-releasing information? Maybe Sasktel WAS planning to offer the device this summer. :)
Anyway, I tend to think booking the conference centre is a pretty good clue as to the date but I have little faith in the low-quality images that emerged yesterday.

This bit of news came bundled in with an announcement by Saskatchewan – based SaskTel about their 3G network that is in the pipeline. SaskTel President and CEO Robert Watson told Leader-Post that Apple is scheduled to launch their next-generation iPhone some time this June, as reported by AppleInsider.
It’s unclear whether Watson inadvertently let slip the juicy bit on Apple’s upcoming device and no further details about the iPhone were revealed. ‘A new version’ is all that can be gauged from the news. The Canadian carrier currently hosts a CDMA network and plans to launch their HSPA network by July 1 this year.
It is speculated that SaskTel will offer the new iPhone starting from July 1 too. Fresh rumors have been doing the rounds about Apple’s upcoming offering. Some of them involve an expected launch date of June 22 and a story that the company is working on developing not one, but two iPhones.
Since Apple threw the covers off their iPhone OS 4 just recently, it’s possible that a next-generation iPhone launch is not too far away.
Press release today. Note the final paragraph
REGINA, April 16, 2010 – In 2009, SaskTel announced the construction of a new $172 million Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS)/High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) wireless network. The first phase of the new network build, which will provide coverage in the major Saskatchewan centers, is expected to be available mid- 2010. Full coverage, similar to today’s digital cellular coverage, is anticipated to be available by the end of 2010.
At this time, SaskTel is currently working with cellular device vendors and partners, both current and new, to offer our customers a wide variety of devices to meet our customers’ individual needs, including the iPhone.
The comments made by the SaskTel President and CEO in a news article on April 15, 2010 were not a confirmation of a release of a new version of the iPhone. The President was commenting on information that has been reported publicly and on the Internet for several months, which has speculated on the timing of a new release.
Anteater 2010-04-16, 02:22 PM Exciting times with Apple - folders and multitasking will definitely be very helpful on a software level (I know this is available with 3GS as well but still), I wonder what the new hardware will have to offer.
Other than a more powerful processor or more memory, I'm not sure they really need to change anything with the iPhone. I'd rather seem them improve performance (or bring down pricing) than add gimmicky features.
outinthornhill 2010-04-17, 09:11 AM OS upgrades for the iPhone have always been free. The next generation iPhone and the OS upgrade are separate projects. We'll know in late June (probably) but a price increase for the phone is doubtful.
Not sure what you mean by "improve performance" but multi-tasking has been the most sought-after feature (and one the competition offers) so it's not all that gimmicky.
I know, until I saw the demo, I didn't really understand why multitasking mattered on a phone - hard to talk and surf at the same time. Having watched Apple's presentation, I can see it could be useful.
Beyond multitasking, I expect there will be some fine-tuning of the radios and other technology in the next phone model, a camera upgrade, etc. Price increase - not so likely.
Another rumor I've seen is video chat being added
BGY11 2010-04-18, 12:04 AM More than likely it's going to use the same A4 processor that the iPad uses, so performance should hopefully be improved a fair bit.
Could this be it?

Interesting!
The flash is something I wouldn't want since its an added drain on power but the second mic for noise cancellation would be a really nice feature.
Hopefully larger battery means more time between charges
hkaye 2010-04-19, 12:49 PM I have an original iPhone (hacked) and the iPhone 3G. I hesitated upgrading to a 3GS so this iPhone 4 will be quite the nice upgrade for me.
Arthur Dent 2010-04-20, 05:58 PM For me, the most desired feature new of this phone would be the 80GB storage, if it really happens. My audio collection screams for more storage space for Apple lossless files.
Proteosome 2010-04-20, 08:38 PM I hope it does have 80 GB of storage. I would finally not need to carry an iPod around in addition to my iPhone.
