CBNT-DT in St. John's, NL is on the air this morning. I didn't know they planned to go HD but it's coming in at 720p and some content appears to be widescreen / HD.

Hopefully its not overload - I'm using an indoor Terk HDTVi (unamplified) and don't have a pre-amp or anything like that. Will keep scanning - I'm not bringing in some of the Buffalo channels that well this morning either, but do have ION and WUTV, and a rather garbled WQLN from Erie. Maybe still some weird tropo effecting reception after last night, when I actually brought in 6 Cleveland stations.

I just checked CBC at home (in Burlington) and it's coming in loud and clear.
So you need to check your setup. You might try re-scanning. Even though CBC hasn't changed channels, it couldn't hurt.

Any help would be appreciated. Not much into this but my son moved into the Wheatly area and will be viewing TV over the air. I will probably look for some help once he decides to connect his Tv. Since I was researching for him I found I could get OTa stations from my town home I have most of the American local stations which helps me out since I also have bell satelite. What my question is since I rescanned this morning . Why would I not get a picture from My pvr on 32-1 I get it on my WMC and tivax converter but not on the Pvr the signal is there but no video. If this is the wrong place for this question sorry I'm a newbie. Also, what other station other than 9-1 should I be getting from canadian stations. Wow channel 9 no snow and i might be able to follow the Puck...........

antenna is a 5ms9000 in the garage Attic yeayea I know but i live in a townhome regulations regulations.

So far only CHWI is providing any guide info.

Your posting in the wrong thread about RF 32 issues. Check the TVO status thread or the S.W. Ontario thread. Basically they have had issues since it launched and while some receivers can decode no issues, others are having problems.

Yes, CBET-DT Windsor CBC went digital sometime around 1am, passed HD at the time, and it is 720p. Wonder why?

The London CBC analog transmitter (rf 40) went off the air at some point during the early morning hours this morning and is still down as of this writing. It was my understanding that this transmitter was being allowed to continue to operate as an analog station for another year. Has this changed? Or is this a temporary scheduled or un-scheduled shut-down?

If this particular transmitter is being discussed somewhere else in it's own thread, please let me know.

I think it is supposed to change to lower power operation on channel 23.

Anyone else noticing a quick drop in signal strength about every 10 seconds or so which causes a drop in audio??? I suspect this is originating from the transmitter since tropo is just about nil now....

Due to the way ATSC stations are decoded, it might not even be an RF issue. In Ottawa we had similar symptoms which turned out to be a problem with the program feed to the site.

I think I figured out what was causing the signal drops. Remember, we are talking about rf9, which is subject to quite a bit of interference. I pulled up the Cleveland dopplar radar, and sure enough there were thunderstorms in the area and when 9 was in analogue, I would "see" the distant lightning strikes as noise in the picture. Now the noise shows up with signal loss during lightning strikes. The storms are currently moving further SE and are dying out - as are the signal drops on CBET DT9...Yay!!!

Update here in St. John's.. CBC was always flaky in parts of the city, that's why they had a fill in translator on Ch 12 to supplement their main transmitter. It wasn't all that helpful. But they've taking that off the air now, leaving only the main transmitter.

We did not get a new antenna here, only new transmitter, so I expected signal issues to persist.

Getting reports now that people who once could barely get the main transmitter here in the city are now getting no signal at all.

Way to go, CBC!

I was getting CBC in St. John's off of the alternate transmitter (CH 12) and Ch 8 was flakey. I could get the signal and see the picture on CH 8, but it was really snowy. With the switch it went completely to snow on me :(. I thought because I could get the signal somewhat that I would be able to pull it in. It was no worse than the NTV signal could be and I get it crystal clear now. Not happy to be losing my CBC.

Then be sure to politely tell CBC how you feel. They need to know how many antenna viewers there really are!

And let the CRTC know, too. They get more complaints about the loudness of commercials than about people losing CBC OTA.

So CBC London post transition channel 23 is one the air - barely. The signal now looks like I am in a fringe area, granted I do have some challenges with the building next but why did they even bother to keep this transmitter alive. Please just turn it off its an embarassment that you would try to serve a city of 300,000+ with such crappy service. The CMA is closer to 500,000 and its doubtful that the signal would even extend to cover all of the CMA now. And channel 53, the french service barely registers. If I hold the antenna if the right direction I can tell there is a signal there and sort of tell through the static that is not English.

Just to be sure, you do have a DTV compatible TV right? You should probably seeing a "weak signal" message of some sort, rather than just snow.. either way, glad to know there are people out there using OTA and channel 12 especially. I do plan to contact CBC once things settle.

Could it also be the case that the fill-in translator on Channel 13 in St. John's relied on over-the-air pickup to work? If so, that would be another reason why it's off — there is no longer any analog signal to relay.
If you consult the CBC's coverage maps, Channel 13 (shown as CBNT-37) is still listed as being operational.
