Bark64 2010-07-20, 07:02 AM I saw two new channels last night/this morning, new for me anyway. CKXT out of hamilton on rf 15 and johnstown NBC on rf 34 which is 6-1 NBC and 6-2 RTV. I might have seen more but I had to leave for work at 6:30 AM, darn it! Pittsburgh was fairly strong last night but still couldn't bring in rf 42. There is always tomorrow.
ImHooked 2010-07-20, 06:44 PM The Erie signals cleared up around 11 last night but the more southerly signals weren't letting up. Jay Leno on 6.1 WJAC RF34 Johnstown. (Don Rickles is nuts) I did, however, momentarliy log in 43.1 WPMT RF47 from York, PA...my most distant visitor to date.
Cheers
PanaMark 2010-07-20, 07:31 PM Exciting to hear from the locals about Dxing for London area. I was beginning to think I was a real minority. I feel a bit better now.
Nice pull on that New York state Fox station. I have never seen that one.
ImHooked 2010-07-21, 08:41 PM Thanks Mark, right time-right place lucky I guess. It was out of York, Pennsylvania down by Philadephia and not from New York state. Sorry, just wanted to clear that up.:D
little-infinity 2010-07-21, 09:59 PM I had a new station try to visit last night around midnight! It was definitely not from Rochester or Syracuse which is kinda exciting.
It was something on RF21. Unknown, but I had just enough signal for my Sharp TV to add 21.4 and 21.5 on top of WXXI and it's 2 subchannels (which were also booming at the time). No PSIP/program info though, and definitely no lock/decode/picture. It was around 35%.
This is similar to how WSYR shows up as 17.4 (9.2) and 17.5 (9.1) since CFTO owns the PSIP slot, and WNED owns the PSIP for 17.x, WXXI owning 21.x PSIP. Nice system of managing channels to be honest since 2 channels on different RFs but same virtual channel won't wipe each other out.
So I assume whatever it was that tried it make it's way in had at least one subchannel? Can anyone out there identify any RF21s in the area?
james039 2010-07-22, 01:41 AM RF21 could've been WWTI Watertown (ABC). I have scanned it occasionally here in Ottawa/Orleans. It has two sub channels 50.1 (ABC) and 50.2 (CW), but at that signal strength it's reasonable that the PSIP didn't make it through and it just dumped them on the 21.x's
majortom 2010-07-22, 07:54 PM RF 53 coming in, anyone know where it's from? I'm near Buffalo, NY. I can't see a CBC French
CH 53 analog in my TVfool, even if I plug in a 200ft antenna height.
Seing some Analog stations creeping in on RF 18 and RF 20 as well, killing my CHCH and CBLT
digital reception, presently. Gonna move the rotor around a little, maybe see where they are coming from too.
Ohio Stations are coming in this evening from Toledo, OH WUPW-DT RF 46 had a Local News
Breakin regarding a Tornado Warning up presently for that area, so must be an approaching storm front.
keep ur eyes out tonite...
Where's that list of Canadian TV Stations again?
I thought I saw Stampeder posted a database of them someplace...
Edit: Thanks hkaye, that makes sense CH 53 from London, ON definitely
is CBLFT. RF 40 from London also comin in so gotta be it.
I've only seen CFTO-DT, RF40 come in once, and that was just a week or two ago,
as reported here, a few posts back.

hkaye 2010-07-22, 08:17 PM I'm in Kitchener. Here are my tvfool analogs. Should cover South Western Ontario.

53 is a CBLFT station on this list.
Edit: Here is another tvfool from London, Ontario which is a little further west of me. Should cover all the analogs west of your location

Edit #2: Tropo has knocked out CTV 9.1 RF 40 at my location.
goforit 2010-07-22, 09:34 PM Great tropo tonight. The kids are watching Qubo on 51-2, ION blasting in.
freddychris 2010-07-23, 08:37 AM Hi all. Last night and today have been crazy for tropo activites and I love it. I can't catch my local Burlington, VT fox and abc, but last night I was picking up wgrz-nbc (only 2.2 and 2.3 as we have 2.1 here I guess) from Buffalo. I am nowhere near Buffalo. City-tv and omni2 out of Ottawa were coming real strong too along with a few tv ontario channels. Today I've lost them, but my scan picked up a channel called prime (11-1 to 11-3), but it's gone already and I never saw where it was from. Anyone know by the way? Anyhow, I love it all.
Marbles_00 2010-07-23, 09:44 AM Anyone know by the way?
Sounds like you may have got WTTW out of Chicago. See the wiki link here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WTTW
Their 11.2 is WTTW Prime.

majortom 2010-07-23, 07:01 PM ahh yes, that's the one. Thanks for posting that link again Stampeder,
I bookmarked it this time:)

Thanks Marbles. That is so screwy that I cannot get fox, which is less than 100 miles away, from here because of the mountain in our city, but that I was able to actually pickup a Buffalo and Chicago channel which are both easily over 500 miles away. I love seeing these channels being picked up, just the same.
Bark64 2010-07-26, 11:59 AM I posted last week about being able to lock on WJW cleveland rf 8 with a cm 4221hd from here in London, ON by pointing 36 degrees west of Cleveland. Well, last night at around 10:30 PM I was able to lock on to WJBK Detroit rf 7 for the first time ever. At the time I was pointed roughly at Pittsburgh. Which means I was on approximatly a 90 degree angle from Detroit. I think pointing the antenna away from the signal is allowing it to pick up the longer wave lengths of rf 7 and 8. Does anyone think this is technically sound logic? Anyway my next goals are to try and lock onto WNGS rf 7 and WICU rf 12.
BTW, great catch with the Chicago channel! Seeing a channel out of Chicago is on my list of Dxing goals.
BillytheGreek 2010-07-26, 12:19 PM I went over to my brother's house and did a scan of his tv and this "channel (27.3)" up with no signal. Don't understand why?
I am located in the south west area of Montreal
Here is his tv fool

of course it helps if you say where you are
stampeder 2010-07-26, 12:35 PM Exactly, location in the title and/or in the user's visible data is essential for the OTA Forum and especially the DX/Tropo thread. :)
Bark64 2010-07-26, 12:48 PM Billythegreek, sometimes tv tuners will come up with goofy virtual channel info. For example WNLO Buffalo is on rf 32 with virtual channel 23.1 but sometimes when I scan it comes up as 32.3. I think this happens when you are on the edge of the signal and your tuner isn't quite getting the psip info right. It's possible you were scanning CIVM rf 27 but it came up as 27.3 instead of 17.1. If the 27.3 was incorrect that could explain why you couldn't view the channel. That's just one possibility.
Marbles_00 2010-07-26, 12:54 PM this "channel (27.3)" up with no signal.
Yeah, doing a good search comes up with KXOF out of Texas on RF39:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KXOF-CA
It is a low power station so I doubt it would have been that one, but according to stamp in a previous post...anything is possible.:)
