Rochester was coming in this morning up in Newmarket. Got blips of RF45 CBS.

New2OTA was right! Yesterday night I picked up everything digital from Rochester a bit after midnight. At one point WHAM on VHF RF13 was booming in as high as 73% on my signal meter! Also saw WHEC (RF10), WROC (RF45), WUHF (RF28) and the low powered W42CO-D (RF42). I also picked up Erie, PA's WQLN (RF50) briefly (signal was erratic so I only saw it for a few min.) Also got to see the full WHAM evening news repeat at 1:30am! :)

Yeah, I was getting Rochester last night. Listening to WRUR radio on virtual channel 16.7--which always blows me away, as it's volume is loud comparative to other stations.

Getting co-channel interference tonight on channel 40 (CFTO Toronto 9.1). Good conditions from the east?? (can't rotate right now...watching the Junos!)

Strong localized tropo, here in the Eastern Lake Ontario region. Nothing new to the resume, but seeing very strong signal strength, in the Watertown/Syracuse/Rochester/Buffalo region. Nothing out of Toronto or Ottawa, but the night is young.

Shoot, how long was ION booming in for? I did a scan later in the night, and found nothing...well it senses something but doesn't get a lock. I'm using some new software (MediaPortal), and not sure if it is that, or I'm just missing tropo events right now.

I had ION and WNYO good and strong until about 11pm...then nothing.

perhaps co channel

The Toledo`s were not around long but I could not believe the signal strength of channel 13 WTVG considering on the back side is a strong signal from 13 CKCO Kitchener.

If I point towards Erie they are all there too.

Could you imagine if this was all reliable........I would be in true OTA heaven.

Special thanks to Research Communications for building a quality preamp

I still have WUTV. It's in and out, but it's there...which is typical during the day for me and this channel.

Looking at Mr Hepburns page, it appeared that we were going to get some favorable tropo, this weekend, but it just faded away. Been monitoring anyways, with little to show. Watertown is a little down in signal, as is the rest of the Lake Ontario locals. I'll periodically check, as I watch the hockey game tonight, and see if there is any change.

My Buffalo's were weak or non-existent yesterday as well. Someone called it oport. (reverse tropo:))

FWIW WUTV is usually about 69strength on my tv tonight its up a touch at 72 soo... thats how the game goes some days are better than others.

I think it's called refraction. Instead of bouncing off the ionisphere, and back to earth, it bends out into space. Too bad, I wanted to do some DXing this weekend.

Picked up this new RF51 low powered station shown only as 51-51 in PSIP with no call letters at all. RTV programming was showing at the time. There was no program data. Seems to be one in a collection of low powered digitals and analogs around there. ERP is just 1.1 kW!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WIVM-LP

"WIVX-LD signed on October 6, 2008. The station is located in the Loudonville, Ohio area and can be seen on digital UHF TV channel 51"

FCC Query (http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/tvq?call=WIVX-LD)
WIVX-LP 51 contour (http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=LD1353125.html)

Also tonight...
RF12 WMFD-DT 68-1 Ind from Mansfield OH also came in very weak briefly
RF42 WGGN-DT 52-1 TBN/Religious from Sandusky/Castalia OH is fairly strong where CTV CKCO-42 Oil Springs usually holds out
RF40 WHIZ-DT 18-1 NBC from Zanesville OH

Been crappy tropo for a while, here in Southern Ontario. Hell, we had more luck in January and early March, than we've had in April and May. Wonder when we'll see some of that good tropospheric ducting again?

The conditions will come. Last night Buffalo stations were booming into Kitchener...my tv's signal meter couldn't get any higher for many. That's a good indication that conditions are coming...

I would have to reiterate Jase,
I have been having solid signals from Erie, Cleveland and Detroit since last night (rotor). As a matter of fact Buffalo payed a visit this morning. Hepburn really did not have anything forecasted which leads me to believe that the front of an upcoming storm night have something to do with it.
Aside from this I agree that the tropo has been dismal recently, with very few windows of opportunity for DXing long range reception (200+ miles).

I would have to agree with Jase88 that conditions are returning. I was getting WUTV at over 65% on my Tivax stb. I usually can can only get about 50. my other Buffalo's are always good.

Hey everybody!

Finally some decent tropo showed up for May! Yesterday, I picked up Utica, NY's WKTV (RF29) in Markham and at times it was booming in as high as 83% signal strength. I also picked up Syracuse's WSYR (RF17) for the first time since last September! But what really bowled me over was getting a shout out ON AIR from WKTV's Don Shipman! Long story short, he discovered my TV Garth blog, I interviewed him for it, and I follow him on Twitter. I tweeted him about picking up WKTV that day and he mentioned on air that one of his Twitter followers was watching from Canada!!! I uploaded the clip to You Tube here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZQq2JDDXLU

I was totally blown away by that :) Here's hoping for more great tropo this month!
