i'm just wondering if anyone knows if all HD channels on shaw direct are broadcast with 24/7 5.1 audio?
the reason i ask is that i recorded with the hd pvr from hauppauge last night the first time and although i think i set everything correctly for 5.1 capture, it showed it was recording in 2.0 audio. so i'm wondering did i set something wrong? or is it just that in this case the BTN (big ten network) broadcasts in 2.0?
thanks
Here's the FAQ on the topic. No, not all programming is DD5.1, however, most programming in prime time now is and a couple of channels are DD5.1 24/7 as outlined in the FAQ:

Does the Hauppauge have a digital audio input? I can't remember.

yes, toslink optical cable input and more recent drivers were supposed to give the 5.1 capture capability. so just wondering about the source or a setting in totalmedia extreme being the problem.
specifically the big ten network channel. my capture last night was a basketball game.
What are you capturing from? Connect that device directly to the AVR to ensure you've got DD5.1. Use "known" DD5.1 programming from the FAQ if possible.

i have a 505 receiver, i'll try a different channel from the faq and see if i can get 5.1 tonight.

just as an update, i tried abc-hd last night and it did show 5.1 audio, so seems that my problem was that the big 10 network doesn't broadcast in 5.1 on shaw direct. i'll see if that's an issue with them or with shaw at some point.
The service provider simply passes the signal, so the issue is with the broadcaster or the programme.
