I have my TV HDMI input settings to auto detect the aspect ratio, so it used to go full screen 16:9 on the HD channels, and the picture would switch to 4:3 for SD. This was working just fine up until a week or so ago, but now suddenly all the SD channels are being stretched to 16:9 and they look like crap. I have to go into the input menu and change the ratio myself when I switch from SD to HD.
No settings on the receiver (6141) or the TV (42LG50) have been changed at all, so is Bell now transmitting 4:3 content at 16:9?

Should this go in the Bell HD subforum maybe? Not sure, but if so, mods if you would be so kind as to please move it to the sub forum if it should be there instead.

No, Bell is not altering the SD signals. Is it possible you've change a stretch setting on the 6141 remote? When on an SD channel, press the "*" button (lower left) on the remote to cycle through the various stretch modes. This may get you back to the way it was before.
The stretch modes for SD and HD channels are remembered by the STB separately, however, you invoke stretch modes on the STB by pressing the "*" button repeatedly. You likely pressed the button by mistake. Press this button until you get what you want for SD and HD. When you switch between the two, there's usually an info item indicating on the screen whether you're in "normal" or "partial zoom" for example. Sounds like you want normal for both.
The TV is basically doing nothing since the STB is only sending one format (I assume you've set either 720P or 1080i as the output format in the STB under setup). Some TVs auto-detect based on the signal received - for example 480i would get a different reaction from 720P, however the STB can only send one format so it doesn't apply for that type. Some TVs auto-detect based on black bars appearing on the screen for 4:3 - I usually recommend people disable the option in the TV since it takes time to react and reacts on each 4:3 commercial on HD channels, etc.
Your thread was moved to the appropriate forum.
When I press the * on my 9241 remote, and say I am on channel 209, it toggles only the HD aspect and not the SD aspect. (pressing page up for HD and page down for SD)
It's like it think all the channels are HD. maybe it because I am hooked up via HDMI. I dunno.
I had similar issues when I was optimizing someone with a 6100. I thought it was simply the way the (older) 6100 worked, because I don't recall that odd functionality (requiring pgup/pgdn) with the 9200 or the 6131.

DUH!!! Jeesh, I completely forgot about the '*' button I use it so infrequently... but ya, that put it back to normal mode (and I totally forgot to notice the little square in the upper left, it would have clued me in)... Thanks a bunch folks.
