: Official 2010 Winter Olympics TV Feed Thread
stampeder 2010-01-25, 10:32 AM The official Host Broadcaster of the 2010 Winter Olympics is CTV. In Canada only CTV will carry the official broadcast TV feed, and the digital broadcast signal will be available in 1080i HD video and DD5.1 audio.
There has been some speculation that some of the overflow non-Olympic programming will be shifted over to the /A\ Channel stations. Confirmation/denial of this would be appreciated.
Also there may be non-English carriage of the official Olympic feed on various OMNI stations in Canada. Again, confirmation/denial of this would be great.
The official U.S. broadcaster carrying official Olympic TV feeds is NBC. NBC's digital broadcast signal will be available in 1080i HD video and DD5.1 audio. Any confirmation of other U.S. channels/networks officially carrying Olympic programming would be appreciated.
stampeder 2010-01-25, 10:35 AM Other channels, networks, and stations in Canada and the U.S.A. will of course be able to show limited 2010 Winter Olympics highlights in their sportscasts.
ikidunot 2010-01-25, 10:58 AM A partnership between CTVGlobemedia and Rogers(called the Olympic Consortium) will be the official carriers for the Olympics in Canada.
CTV/TSN1 not 2 will be carrying the feeds for CTVgm('A' wasn't part of the company and neither was TSN2 when the contracts were signed)
Rogers Sportsnet/Omni will carry for Rogers. Not sure how much omni will have.
Needless to say there will be a whole lot of coverage LIVE to air for this olympics. How they sort out who airs what is anybody's guess.
scampbell 2010-01-25, 11:09 AM Universal Sports (available OTA in some areas of Canada) will have daily programming (http://www.sportsfeatures.com/presspoint/pressrelease/50697/universal-sports-at-the-vancouver-games-to-complement-nbc-universals-multi-network-coverage-of-the-vancouver-olympic-games), although it doesn't appear they will be covering actual live sports:
Universal Sports at the Vancouver Games Daily Programming Block (times and programming elements subject to change):

scampbell 2010-01-25, 05:18 PM The NBC Olympics website (http://www.nbcolympics.com/tv-listings/index.html) has TV listings for each of its networks:
NBC: From the Opening Ceremony to the final trip to the podium, NBC will air nearly 200 hours of Olympic coverage over the Games' 17 days. Network coverage features everything from ice sports like Figure Skating, Speed Skating and Curling to snow sports like Alpine Skiing, Luge and Ski Jumping.
USA: USA Network is the spot for live Olympic Hockey and Curling. Coverage features Team USA -- both men and women in each sport -- six Hockey games and nine Curling matches, including the women's bronze medal contest.
MSNBC: Over the course of the 21st Winter Olympic Games, MSNBC will televise more than 30 Hockey and Curling contests. Coverage begins live on February 15 when the Canadian women take on Switzerland in Hockey, and also features Team USA on numerous occasions throughout the Games, as well as late night replays of earlier live broadcasts.
CNBC TV: The first Olympic puck drops in Vancouver on February 13, and CNBC will have the contest (Sweden vs. Switzerland) live. For the following 14 days, CNBC will cover all the action on ice: at least 24 Hockey games -- up to the men's bronze medal game -- and 18 Curling matches including both the men's and women's gold medal contests.
Universal Sports: Throughout the Olympic Games, Universal Sports and Universal Sports HD will provide one-stop coverage, highlights and analysis from Vancouver. With two daily programs -- a highlights and recap show, and a roundtable discussion featuring journalists from around the globe -- Universal Sports has all the best moments and insights daily.
NB Josh 2010-01-25, 06:18 PM It should be noted MSNBC and CNBC's coverage will probably be blacked out in Canada. CBC forced a blackout on them in the past, and I can't see why CTV wouldn't this time. A quick breakdown of NBC's schedule is
3-5pm - mostly cross-country, biathlon and snowboarding preliminaries
8-11:30 (varies each night) - live figure skating, freestyle skiing, speed skating, short track, snowboarding, tape delayed alpine skiing
12-1 - medal ceremonies, various highlights

The full Olympic broadcast schedule for each network will be announced a week from today, and there will be an interactive programming guide (like the one that NBC has) on CTVOlympics.ca.
JesseJ 2010-01-26, 11:08 AM Most of the hockey/curling will be on TSN/SNET. They (TSN) are the host broadcasters for hockey, curling (and 1 other sport I cant remember), meaning they will be providing the international feed.
Here is the pic from the bottom of the CTV site.

stampeder 2010-01-26, 11:09 AM Yep, I noticed that OMNI BC's on screen bug has the Olympic rings on it now.

You say that TSN2 was not part of the contracts that were signed, but they are still going to have everything that TSN shows on a 3 hour delay wouldn't they? Otherwise the channel is going to be blank for two weeks. Or are you just referring to having Live content on TSN2.
You have to remember, TSN2 isn't it's own licensed channel yet, it is still broadcasting as an extension per say, of the normal TSN license, if that has any bearing on its status within the consortium.
NB Josh 2010-01-26, 02:49 PM TSN2 will have encores of TSN Olympic programming most likely. They have a lot of NBA games schedule those two weeks as well. They will probably have a few NASCAR races and some college basketball during the Olympics too. I'm glad that TSN2 will have the 3 hour encores, it means that if the morning (9:00am PT) curling draw is on TSN, I can watch it when I get home on TSN2.
JesseJ 2010-01-26, 04:13 PM Daytona 500 is Feb 14. Day 2. I'm sure the deuce will have it.
I'm so glad I'm unemployed for these Olympics ;)
roger1818 2010-01-28, 11:39 AM My question is how much Olympic programming will CTV actually show? My fear is that since they can't simusub the content, they will leave the live coverage to TSN and Sportsnet and only show a short daily recap on the main network, leaving the schedule open for CSI and such.
kirjtc2 2010-01-28, 11:47 AM Just the opposite. CTV will be showing the Olympics 22.5 hours a day. The only breaks are for news.
http://www.ctvmedia.ca/olympics/releases/release.asp?id=12050&yyyy=2010
Regular CTV programming will air on A.

Thanks! That is great news! I hadn't seen that announcement.
stampeder 2010-01-28, 12:30 PM Regular CTV programming will air on A.For OTAers like me that means goodbye 1080i 16:9 DD5.1 for some of my favourite shows.
Stan Dev 2010-01-28, 12:57 PM There has been some speculation that some of the overflow non-Olympic programming will be shifted over to the /A\ Channel stations. Confirmation/denial of this would be appreciated.
Here's CTV's press release about that:
CTV’s Hit Programs Join /A\ for a Special Two-Week Run, February 12 – 28, During Vancouver 2010 (http://ctvmedia.ca/ctv/releases/release.asp?id=12060&num=2&yyyy=2010)
Stan Dev 2010-01-28, 01:30 PM As they did for the Beijing Olympics, Bell TV will provide some additional channels (http://www.bell.ca/shopping/PrsShpPromo_Tv_HDCoverage.page?INT=TV_tvhmpg_BAN_olympicskie r_Acq_080110_BRS_ENG) carrying the raw, live HD feeds from the venues, without any commercials or commentator overlay. (Question for the OP or moderators: do you want further discussion of these Bell-only Olympic channels to take place in this thread or in the existing thread (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=117312) over in the Bell TV forum?)
Wayne 2010-01-31, 02:28 PM For OTAers like me that means goodbye 1080i 16:9 DD5.1 for some of my favourite shows. :mad:There are other places to get these shows in 16:9 DD5.1 even for OTA only folks (depending on where you live).
Source 1 - US OTA channels. Source 2 - iTunes or other online sites. Source 3 - Less legal methods.
Bob_Mtl 2010-02-02, 03:31 AM Is Montreal the only not HD OTA CTV station? And what is that A station, are we the only ones to not have that station OTA?
I guess I will have to watch US coverage of the olympics on NBC for HD content... and the rest on analog CTV.
stampeder 2010-02-02, 10:16 AM Is there any live HD OTA Olympics coverage in Montreal en français?
