I hope he recovers.
I have a Beliveau story...
In the early 80s, I was skating on the Rideau Canal with my father. I was around 10 or 11 at the time. My dad told me that I should "go say hi to that guy over there". I had no idea who the "guy" was, but I did what dad told me and went over. I said hello, and told the gentleman who was skating with a few others that my father had sent me over. He looked over to my dad, and turned back to me and asked me if he was a hockey fan. I can't remember exactly what I said, but dad was a Leafs fan while mom cheered for the Habs. After saying goodbye, I skated back over to dad. I asked who that guy was, and he told me that Jean Beliveau was one of the greatest hockey players to ever play, and that he was always a gentleman, and that I should be honoured to skate with him. To make things even more interesting, I had no idea that a photographer had been shooting while I talked with Beliveau. The shot appeared on the front of a section in the Ottawa Citizen the next day. Dad laughed when the paper was delivered, and showed me the paper. I realized then that I would never forget that moment for the rest of my life.

I sure hope you still have that picture from the paper, hopefully framed and still in good condition.

Paper is still in a desk drawer at my mother's place. I think back to what I was wearing, and it was typical "Canada 1980s kid": the winter coat with the fur-trim hood, the wool toque with the big pom pom on top... I think the toque was from Radio Shack!

Terrible news.
He was the classiest player ever to lace on a pair of skates.
Get well, Jean.
