jumpy27 2010-02-04, 08:02 PM The last few years, I have simply PVR'd the game and started watching around 7:30pm. I complete the game around the time it ends. Then after the game or the next day, I go on-line and watch all the highest ranked ads.
Much easier!
It may be easier, but for me not as enjoyable. To me the Superbowl with the Superbowl ads are an experience that far surpasses watching them separately. When I was forced to watch the simsubbed local ads over and over and over again years ago, that is all I could think about as I watched the game and I didn't enjoy it. Now any simsubbing (even if I can skip past the commercials) just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Fortunately I live in an area where Shaw is not required to simsub the American HD channels so I can be at peace.
scottyb123 2010-02-04, 09:24 PM This is going to be my first Super Bowl with the US Commercials since I got OTA television set up last spring, and I can't wait. Thanks again Digital Home!
rileyparrish 2010-02-05, 08:45 PM So.... Do you think Shaw HD in Winnipeg will show american commercials?
If no local CTV HD (Winnipeg) exists yet (which I'm 99% sure it doesn't) then you should be fine on the CBS East or West feed. In most markets Shaw Digital customers only get CTV-HD Toronto unless they live in Calgary or Vancouver I believe so you shouldn't see anything simsubbed. In Edmonton the only HD programming ever simsubbed for now is on Global because there is a Global HD feed here, no CTV yet though thank God.
Musashii 2010-02-06, 02:29 AM Is there anyway I can see the Super Bowl on Sunday with US commercials on Cogeco, and if so on what channel?
stampeder 2010-02-06, 01:25 PM Just a reminder that there are existing threads about Simsubbing (a hugely contentious topic at this site over many years) so please stick to the availability issues as this thread's title describes.
Posts deleted. As noted by Stampeder, this thread is not for discussing why we have simsubbing for which many threads already exist.

Nope. Unless somebody makes a mistake. I'm watching using modern day rabbit years. Just tested the setup. So far so good.
Panache70 2010-02-06, 08:32 PM I was just thinking...
Since CTV Montreal is not yet broadcasting their HD feed OTA, I am wondering if Bell could allow non-simsubbed CBS HD to everyone in Quebec that is on the new A LA CARTE platform with the revamped 'Basic'.
It would be easy for Bell to justify allowing anyone with the new 'Basic' package to enjoy CBS HD without simsub, because only residents of Quebec are allowed to purchase this new 'Basic' and CTV is not broadcasting HD OTA in Quebec yet.
Technically, if they could do this I think they would be within the 'rules'. The CRTC would have a hard time determining any solid 'history' of sim-subbing by Bell, since this new 'basic' package in Quebec is only 5 days old...
Am I reaching? :)
jscrimshaw 2010-02-07, 10:10 AM So what about London Ontario.. To my knowledge, there is no local CTV station here.. All we have here is "A" Channel London
jscrimshaw 2010-02-07, 10:19 AM Nevermind.. I just realized that "A" Channel is owned by CTVglovemedia:(
Dr.Dave 2010-02-07, 10:46 AM If 'A' Channel isn't broadcasting the SuperBowl, it doesn't matter who owns it. They can't simsub with another distant CTV channel. That assumes that London is outside the broadcast range of the nearest CTV channel.

The East section of London is under the CKCO-TV Contour and the west part of the city is under the CKCO-TV-3 contour. It has in the past and will be Sim-Subbed for SD viewers here. HD is exempt.
jscrimshaw 2010-02-07, 12:48 PM HD exempt.. Sweet
I used to go to Port Huron to watch the game at a friends place but my friend moved to Florida so this will be my first time watching it at home
I've seen videos on youtube about the simsub mistakes that are made by CTV and it literally made me cry
Simonizer 2010-02-07, 01:09 PM Well, I had to get Shaw Direct for the Superbowl, and WWJ-TV CBS HD Detroit is coming in loud and clear without any simsubs in my area. Rogers for some reason simsubs here, but Shaw Direct does it correctly via the postal code of the receiver, and I'm just outside of Toronto, and there's no simsubs!
I still have Rogers, and that CTV HD grey opaque cover up looks terribly ugly. Now I have to decide if I want to run satellite cable everywhere and cancel Rogers completely and just go with Shaw, but we'll see.
(I didn't only get Shaw Direct for simsub free Superbowl, but for other events and programs too. I had to do it, as crazy as it is subscribing to both right now, but Shaw Direct did have a good promo on - the HD receiver was only $29.99, plus they gave me a $100 programming credit, and I can cancel anytime).
stampeder 2010-02-07, 01:16 PM This thread is for discussing the actual U.S. commercials:

Yep the slow DTV Rollout in Canada has it's perks. The Only thing is Bell-TV will be simsubed but if you have Rogers of Shaw Direct you will be safe. Just a warning make sure you are watching the CBS East feed on Rogers, it's a safe bet that the CBS West will have a CTV Simsub.
EDIT: London Rogers CBS-E 523 is Un-Simsubed and despite that CTV is showing a completely different program then CBS-W 528, the simsub has kicked in.
Simonizer 2010-02-07, 01:32 PM I noticed that too switching back and forth between Shaw Direct (CBS directly) and Rogers (CTV simsub), the programs are different right now. What is going on there? The CBS hijacked feed by CTV on Rogers isn't even HD for the most part. Oh well, back to Shaw Direct!
jcice 2010-02-07, 01:44 PM For what it's worth, looks like Eastlink digital cable here in Charlottetown PEI is leaving the CBS HD east and west feeds untouched (WBZ-HD Boston ch. 621 and KIRO-HD Seattle ch. 626), as well as KIRO-SD on digital channel 276.
In fact, I haven't seen ANY simsubs on any of Eastlink Charlottetown's HD channels in months - I can only assume they are no longer using Bell as their HD source anymore (Last year's Super Bowl was simsubed on all Eastlink HD and SD channels by CFTO-HD and CTV Atlantic respectively).
WBZ-SD Boston on analog channel 4 is being simsubed by CTV Atlantic, as expected.
thegman 2010-02-07, 01:51 PM whats going on?
both HD CBS channels are showing what CTVHD is showing, which is WRONG.
BUT
CBS-SD is correct, its not simsubbed.
Great job CTV/Rogers.
Simonizer 2010-02-07, 01:53 PM But aren't both CBS HD feeds supposed to be simsubbed, because it's a live event?
