jshel101 2009-12-16, 10:34 AM I think the plans are great. I can not wait to switch to Wind
By "any Wind Home Zone" do they mean any Wind coverage area (ie area where you are not roaming on Rogers)? Or is it just your own city area code?
Regardless, those are nice looking plans.
Edit: From their coverage map, it looks like a Wind Home Zone is any Wind coverage area! Their coverage is only To and Calgary for now though. Hurry up and get to Ottawa Wind!
djino 2009-12-16, 10:55 AM right now there are only two Wind Home Zones.. Toronto (GTA) and Calgary.
If you are not in any of those areas, roaming fees will apply.

Yes, roaming on Rogers is 25c/minute with Wind. But don't the other carriers change long distance minutes when you are outside of your calling zone?
Laslow Panaflex 2009-12-16, 11:18 AM Intersting that the visual used on their home page includes an iPhone:
Of course, the current edition of the iPhone won't work with Wind, but the next generation (4) coming in 2010 might...

Yes, but right now, even if you make an OUTBOUND local call FROM outside of Toronto/Calgary , then you will still be charged roaming fees (unlike the Big 3).
But once the Home Zones start to expand, making (AND RECEIVING) calls within any Home Zone will not incur any roaming charges.

Tezster 2009-12-16, 11:37 AM Are the prices for the plans posted inclusive of all additional fees? i.e. 911, SAF, etc... I'd like to know what the FINAL price is, all in.
And does anyone know if free weekend/evenings is included in any of the plans - or is this an optional add-on?

There are no other fees.

The $15 plan doesn't have extra weekend minutes. It's 100 minutes anytime. Each additional minute is 10c
The $35 and $45 are unlimited anytime minutes. You don't have to worry about when you call.
Paolo 2009-12-16, 12:15 PM is there any charge to change price plans?
anyone signed on to wind lately? what does a wind sim/uicc card look like?
djino 2009-12-16, 12:26 PM is there any charge to change price plans?
From windmobile FAQ
Question
Can I change my plan mid-month?
Answer
At WIND, you can change your plan at any time.
We will pro-rate the amount remaining on your first plan and apply that to your new plan. Same for all your Add-ons. When you change your plan, the new plan is effective at the midnight following your request, no matter what time your account is updated.

"With that, I assume its free"
Paolo 2009-12-16, 12:31 PM ok that probaly means if u change it in the middle of a billing cycle, but if you have it changed on your bil cycle date, there is no prorata, so yeah protata messes things upo but no extra charges i see.
Yes, but right now, even if you make an OUTBOUND local call FROM outside of Toronto/Calgary , then you will still be charged roaming fees (unlike the Big 3).
Right. Forgot inbound LD is not charged by the Big 3.
Though, I just noticed that roaming with Wind in the US is the same price as roaming in Canada - 25c/min!!
jshel101 2009-12-16, 12:44 PM Right. Forgot inbound LD is not charged by the Big 3.
It is not charged by the big 3 if you are in your local calling area when the call is received. If you are outside your LCA, then you will receive LD charges for the incoming call.
attach 2009-12-16, 12:45 PM I am with Fido and have CityFido 24x7x365 unlimited voice and I am sure that if I am not in my home city, Toronto and it local calling area (which is quite large and goes from Burlington to Oshawa and up to Orillia), that I pay roaming fees when I receive both an incoming call (whether LD or not) and make an outgoing call (whether LD or not).
From that perspective Windmobile is the same. The only problem is that you have to be in Toronto or Calgary to have a local calling area. That will change soon though.
djino 2009-12-16, 12:53 PM It is not charged by the big 3 if you are in your local calling area when the call is received. If you are outside your LCA, then you will receive LD charges for the incoming call.
Yes, this is more correct.
The Difference with the Big 3 and Wind in this matter is the Home Zone. Toronto could be your local calling area, but if you are in another Home Zone (Calgary) you can make/receive calls without roaming/long distance charges.
So once the Home Zones start expanding, this will be another advantage over the Big 3.
Right now though with me being in Ottawa. If I pick up a wind phone, and make/receive calls in my area, I'm still charged 25cents/minute roaming regardless if Its local or long distance as Ottawa is currently not a Home Zone.

Flummox 2009-12-16, 01:06 PM What data speed are they advertising for Mobile internet? Their web site seeems to be down.
What data speed are they advertising for Mobile internet? Their web site seeems to be down.
HSUPA data service of up to 2.0 Mbps
HSDPA data service of up to 7.2 Mbps
sndwav 2009-12-16, 02:13 PM It looks like Wind's internet speeds are less then the big 3 but that is for maximum speed and in theory the big 3 speeds are usually only 50 % of what they claim because of network usage.
The bigger question about Wind is about backbone:
With Rogers etc if i dont have 3g signal thne it drops down to GSM etc but with Wind what happens is there isn't hspa available does it roam to rogers or have no service?
