: OTA On-Screen & Third Party Electronic Program Guides

I just bought a Sony led with tvgos and it is only giving me listings for 10-1 cfpl and 19-1 sun tv. I also had a few Toronto stations saved thanks to tropo, so I have listings for city 57-1, cblft 25-1, omni1 47-1. They only show up if I keep these channels turned on and they are blank 99 % of the time which is a minor nuisance. I tried emailing rovi corp to see about adding the rest of the local London channels but no reply yet. If anyone else in London has a sony with tvgos could you confirm what channels the guide is giving you. I just want to make sure it is not something I am doing wrong on my end. Thanks.

Bark64, I'm assuming that you did this, but can you confirm that you've set your tuner with a London-area postal code?
According to rabbitears.info (http://www.rabbitears.info/market.php?request=tvgos), CFPL is indeed a TVGOS host station. Therefore you should be able to receive TVGOS data in London.

Yes I am using a London postal code but the only local channels it is giving me are CFPL (the host channel) and Sun tv (which was digital pre-august 31). That's why I am wondering if they just haven't added all the new digital channels in this market yet. I can get some of the Toronto listings through tropo and for some reason it gave me chch 11-1 listings the other night even though I don't even have a channel 11-1 saved on my channel list. I still haven't had a reply from Rovi corp. I thought about trying some different postal codes, anybody else have any ideas?

Not sure if it is the same thing, but my Samsung LED TV also has a Rovi EPG program. There is a difference between the Ontario area as well as the Toronto-Hamilton region. I find the program very annoying anyways, I use Zap2it website and manually add/subtract channels, although that is not exactly foolproof either.
Might try a close by US location ZIP Code. Unfortunately London is equally (and quite) far away from Detroit/Cleveland/Niagara so it may be inaccurate, but it might do the trick

Bark64, I recommend that you send an email to Rovi Support:
Include your postal code, city, the make and model number of your tuner, and the channels that are missing (call sign, real channel, virtual channel number).

I sent Rovi corp an email yesterday and received a stock email back saying they would forward my email to the appropriate department and I should hear something from them within 5 working days. I will let you know what the result is.

I've had some very positive results in my emails to Rovi corp over the past few days. As of this morning I now have listings for 7 out of the 10 digital channels that I get. I started with only 2 so it is a big step in the right direction. The only channels I am now missing listings for are TVO 18-1, Omni2 20-1 and CITS 14-1. Could anyone in the TO/Ham/Kit area tell me if the listings for these three channels in the Toronto region work for the TVGOS OTA? If they do then I could email Rovi back and let them know the listings would be exactly the same just with a different channel number. On the other hand if these listings don't appear for the Toronto channels either then it is a different issue. So I kind of need to know one way or the other before I can proceed. Thanks Jase for pointing me in the right direction.

Bark64, those three channels send out programming data via PSIP; odd that your tuner can't display that.
And no problem...I'm glad that it worked out for you.

My tuner does show the PSIP info for those three channels, they just don't show up in the TVGOS guide. The PSIP data for my Sony tv only shows what's on currently and sometimes what the next show is, whereas with the tvgos epg you can see listings for a full 24 hours ahead, That's why I'd like to eventually get the guide working for all 10 channels, (for some reason I'm hitting the period on my keyboard and it is showing up as a comma, strange)

I have also emailed them about the absolute lack of support for any Montreal channels.
2011-10-28, 05:32 PM
alien0, just to confirm: Are you able to receive the Montreal TVGOS host station CFCF-DT (channel 12)?

whereas with the tvgos epg you can see listings for a full 24 hours ahead
Just 24 hours? I get a full 7 days from TVGOS....

Reply to post #551:
I do receive it from the broadcaster but it behaves as described in post #549. When I tune in, I get the banner with the info for the current program as broadcast by the source. The TVGO shows "No data" however.

Yes, I am only getting 24 hours of listings. Maybe it depends on your tv. On the positive side I now have listings for 11 of the 14 channels I get. I started out with 2 out of 14 so it's an improvement. Part of the reason I was missing channels is they don't add repeaters. They instead give you the Toronto listings and you can go into the edit channels feature and change the channel number to match your local repeater. For some reason it is not giving me TVO 19-1 or CITS 36-1 on my list. I emailed Rovicorp this morning to see if I can get them added. Then I should have a complete guide.

I got a reply from Rovi at last stating that my local channels guide should work since they have them in their database and to try again and let them know if it still didn't work (sigh).
Obviously, I replied that it still doesn't work and asked if they need some debug info data. However, it takes them a full week to reply to an email. At this rate, it will take years before the problem is fixed (if it even gets fixed). Lovely.

For whatever reason I used to get CBC Toronto listed when it was analog, but now that it is digital it no longer shows any program info on my DTVPal, but does show 48 hours worth on my SONY.
Both are set to the same ZIP code 14240 Buffalo. I've written CBC but in 2 weeks no reply. Any ideas?
(Please don't suggest that I should change it to another one of the hundred zip codes in the Greater Buffalo - Viagara Falls area)

MonopolyBuster, this has been discussed in the CBC/SRC Post-Transition status (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=144966) thread.
In a nutshell, the data you were receiving for CBC and SRC was PSIP--not TVGOS. CBC had some technological challenges while transitioning from one distribution system to another--resulting in the loss of PSIP EPG data.
The latest estimate from Marc (a CBC insider) indicates the return of EPG PSIP data on or about November 28, 2011.

Well it took a couple of weeks but Rovi finally added TVO and CITS to my TVGOS lineup for London, Ontario. They also added NBC and ABC Erie, PA which I wasn't expecting. That will come in handy during tropo season. I now have a 100% program guide. It's been about a month since I first emailed them about having only 20% of the channels on my guide. In the end they got the job done and apologized for the delay so I can't complain about their service. My advice if their is anything you don't like about the Rovi guide don't be shy to email them and follow up on that email, just be patient.

It was nearly 2 weeks since I emailed them telling them that what they claim should work doesn't, and no reply whatsoever. I am not impressed at all.

alien0, did you provide them with all of the necessary details (as I mentioned earlier) in your email?
