roger1818 2009-09-24, 11:34 AM Scottyp99,
I am not sure which make/model of 4 bay antenna you have, but most seem to have a narrower beam width for stations in the 60s than lower channels. If you are at a bad angle (likely around 45 degrees), you could easily loose about 25 or 30 dB, where as other channels might only loose about 10dB (depending on the make/model of the antenna). See plot for the DB-4 below as an example.
Try pointing the antenna a bit more towards the CN tower and see if that helps. Even 5 or 10 degrees might make a huge difference.

Northern_Man 2009-09-24, 09:08 PM Wow, I thought it was just me, I was watching Hero's on monday night and noticed the same pixelization and other issues. Nothing too bad, the show was still watchable. But survivor tonight was really bad, my mythtv setup missed 10 minutes of the show due to loss of signal. I have only seen the signal get this bad during a rain storm before. I really hope the problem is at the global end, as I wasn't looking forward to going up on the roof and tuning my setup.
Tom.F.1 2009-09-25, 08:09 AM On my Samsung, I Global moved to 65.2 this morning, but the glitches are gone.......
pnear 2009-09-25, 10:04 AM Thanks for the feedback, I've sent it along to the Global engineer I've been communicating with.

Bitablespore 2009-09-25, 08:10 PM I am confused... the channel appears to have moved from 41 to 65.2.
Anyone else experience this in the mississauga area?

Bitablespore 2009-09-25, 08:16 PM Has anyone noticed that Global has moved from 41.1 to 65.2? When did this happen?

You're lucky it moved. :)
My Bell Evu receiver just lost it altogether and requires a re-scan.
Jase88 2009-09-25, 10:23 PM Same problem here in Kitchener: Global Toronto now on 65.2.
El Gran Chico 2009-09-26, 12:06 AM This sounds symptomatic of messed up PSIP. Unfortunately I can't run tsreader right now, but I will soon if it isn't corrected soon.
pnear 2009-09-26, 08:54 AM I got an update from the engineers at Global. The glitches were caused by their PSIP generator, which they pulled out for a bit as part of the troubleshooting. They now know the cause and have a fix on the way from the vendor.
He said that they put the PSIP generator back in though, so I'm curious as to why it would still be showing channel 65. I'll look into it.

mindrobber 2009-09-26, 12:12 PM I've not been able to get it on 41 since last night. Tried 65 this morning and it's fine.
CamDAB 2009-09-26, 01:47 PM Vanished from my CM 7000 box. Rescanned and it came in as 65.1
When tuned to the mapped 41.1 the receiver declared "no signal".

cogitech 2009-09-26, 08:37 PM Very odd. I tried to map this to 65.1 and also 65.2 on my HTPC PVR running BeyondTV. It won't tune.
Then I tried a full channel scan with the Arcsoft software that came with my tuner card. Global HD comes up as:
Channel: 1 "Channel 8" (but I can tell it is Global HD from the logo/watermark)
All the other channels in the scan come up as they normally do, like:
Channel: 51 "CBLT-DT"
CraigWB 2009-09-26, 11:12 PM My TV still shows 41-1, though I haven't rescanned. the "Global Ontario" tag is now gone.
Also gone are the glitches, to be honest, the glitches were intermittent and minor on my TV, and didnt really bother me - but, that said, no glitches is better :)
My thanks to pnear, and the Global broadcast engineers. we in our house are happy viewers !
Chudsmith 2009-09-27, 09:19 AM Does anyone know if the move to 65.2 is permanent or just a temporary thing?
Currently on my TiVo HD unit the guide info is on 41.1 and actual station on 65.2.
Getting the TiVo line-up people to fix these issues is next to impossible, so I’m hoping for Temporary.
cogitech 2009-09-27, 10:29 AM I'm hoping temporary too, because right now BeyondTV will not tune it at all.
The Arcsoft software can tune it but it still sees it as Channel: 1 With a callsign of "Channel 8".
I knew that was wrong so I also tried a scan with another software called "EasyHDTV".
It can tune it as Channel: 65.2 with a callsign of "65.2".
I modified my BeyondTV (Snapstream.net) line-up so the channel is 65.2, and when I try to tune the channel I get an error message in BeyondTV that the Digital tuner is attempting to tune an ANALOG channel.
Whatever they are doing over there at Global is obvious non-standard (wrong) because all other channels have the exact same numbers and callsigns in all three software packages and they all tune fine.
If anyone out there can tune GlobalHD in Toronto with BeyondTV, please tell me how you are doing it. If you can't tune Global with BeyondTV, please tell me so at least I know it is really an issue with Global's PSIP (or whatever).

DdDave 2009-09-27, 02:01 PM I'm hoping temporary too
65 is Global's transition broadcast frequency, with 41-1 as their virtual channel. Earlier on someone mentioned they had issues with the PSIP generator, so they probably didn't configure it properly and went home for the weekend.
PPL4GOLF 2009-09-27, 05:35 PM For anyone having trouble with Global CIII-DT, it's your call to rescan if you don't have the ability to add channel easily (eg HTPC)
IMHO, it'll most likely revert back to 41.1 within 1 week. You may well need to rescan again. It's not a big issue for folks with great reception but a big PITA if I rescan and I know I will lose 51.x on the channel list. Many may have bigger problem than mine losing other channels they don't reliably get.
Just PVR off the original Buffalo station if possible, Global simsubs anyways.
cogitech 2009-09-27, 05:38 PM Brilliant!
