I am quite new to this, but am attempting to synergize my simple home theatre system/pc & new HD boxes.

Is it possible for me to hook both of my 6131's to a PC for PVR purposes? ( I have no wish to watch the media through the pc, I only want to use it's hard drive as "storage" for the Hi Def Media)?

If not, is there an EHD that I can split amonsgt two 6131's?

The vast majority of external 7200 RPM USB 2.0 hard drives with a capacity between 50GB and 1 Terabyte should work. Please note that Hard drives less than 50GB will not work and 5400 RPM drives are not recommended.

You probably want at least a 250GB hard drive for recording HD. I find that 500GB or 1TB drives are better since smaller drives fill up too fast with HD. A single drive can be switched between two 6131s on the same account but cannot be connected to both at the same time.

I have recently bought two 6131s and also bought two Fantom 1TB G-Force Mega Disks. One of them works as a PVR and the other gives me the message that it is not the right size on both receivers. I look on the PC just to make sure and it is a 1TB drive. Any ideas why one works and one doesn't?

Bad drive? Does it work on a PC?

To follow up on this, the Fantom drive that I bought appears to have been defective. It worked on my PC so I was worried Tiger Direct would not take the return. But I explained that the exact same model worked on my receiver and this particular drive did not work on either. They assumed a bad connection with the USB cable and replaced it. The new one works perfectly. Before I brought it back I tried formatting it with FAT32 and NTFS. I can't figure out why the 6131 did not believe the drive was 1TB but the error message was that only drives between 50GB and 1TB are allowed. Ah well. Works now so can't complain. Thanks!

Any idea when Bell will be updating the firmware on the 6141 to enable usage of 2TB EHD's?

Does the Dishnetwork version of the 6141 have the ability to run a 2TB EHD.?

To the best of my knowledge, Bell TV are still saying a max size of 750Mb for the EHD even though several dozen people are using a 1TB with little or no issues.

I'll probably add a 1TB drive in the future combined with a non-powered USB hub with only one drive powered at any one time.
Currently running with a WD Mybook Essential 500GB.
