: Samsung LCD mysteriously changes mode, volume, menu

My boyfriend's Samsung 40" LCD (not sure which model, but he purchased it last Dec) will mysterious change input mode (HDMI to TV) or display the volume control menu on the screen and the volume will change. It's the only Samsung he has in the house. As far as I know, he has checked the firmware version and has the latest. He does have a Samsung Blu Ray, but it's normally powered off and the remote is tucked away in the drawer.

He has a Rogers digital box connected, and we have programmed that remote to control the volume of the TV and nothing more.

Both remotes(Samsung and Rogers) will be sitting on the coffee table untouched, and while we are watching the TV, it will just change from HDMI1 to TV, or the volume control display will come on the screen and the volume will change.

He lives in a townhouse with units on either side, but based on my own experience, infrared doesn't appear to go through walls, so that likely rules out the neighbour having the same TV and remote, although I have to say it's behaving like someone is controling the TV with another remote.

There is no other Samsung in the house, and the other TV is a 20 year old model from another brand.

Any thoughts?

It may well be the Roger's set top box causing the problems. You may well be getting infrared interference between the STB and the LCD TV. Check out this link:

Thanks. I actually found that thread earlier and sent him the link. He said he changes some configuration on his TV and will see what happens.
