Hi folks,
I have a friend who is buying television this week, and she came to me looking for advice. She has it narrowed down to a Sony 40" LCD and a Panasonic 40" plasma. She will be using the TV in a somewhat dimly lit basemant apartment, and I recommended the Panasonic plasma to her. Then she told me that her son will be gaming on the TV VERY FREQUENTLY. I am aware of the burn-in debates regarding Plasma TV's. So is it still a high risk? Her son will most likely play for a while and then walk away leaving the TV on. I myself have a Panny plasma and have no burn-in issues, but I do not game at all on the TV. So if you were in my shoes, which would you recommend? I am kind of leaning toward the Sony LCD now. I can't recall the model numbers, but she is supposed to get back to me today with those. I will post them when I get them. Thanks for your help.

I've been gaming regularly on an old Panasonic Plasma (2005) and never had any issues even then. I don't think you need to worry about anything, especially with the new models.

Make sure to get your friend to turn off the "Vivid" or whatever Panasonic calls their "torch" picture mode. Lower brightness/contrast will help prevent image burn-in as well.

search on Burn in in the plasma forum or gaming and you'll find tons of threads discussing.
