First off, this is not a thread about the typical problem of IR interference causing the STB remote not to work.

Last week shaw cable delivered my new Pace 770D HDPVR and ever since then I've been having a problem which has stumped me as well as the Shaw tech support.

TV: Sharp Aquos LC42D65U

Basically, when I press any buttons on the Aquos remote, numbers will pop up (usually 888, 1, or 0) on the PVR as if I entered them into the PVR remote. I have programed the Shaw remote to the TV, and attempting to control the TV with the shaw remote will result in the same thing happening. This is particuarly annoying as when pausing and watching a program, adjusting the volume will result in a channel change, causing me to lose the recorded program.

For what its worth, Shaw tech support has not heard of this problem, and after resetting the box, the solutions they came up with were to turn the pvr one direction and the tv the other, or buy a new TV. Both of which are extremely poor solutions to the problem.

Anybody able to shed some light on this?

You say it's not the IR interference issue, but have you turned off OPC and changed your TV away from the default vivid mode?

One way to see if it's the TV causing the interference is to turn the TV off completely and see if the "888" will still come up when you press the same buttons on the remote. If it doesn't then this would indicate an issue with TV IR interference.

Another thing to check is the "HDMI link" issue described in point 4 of the following HDMI Issues FAQ:

The TV being on or off has no influence on what is happening, but I'll have a read of those links posted.

Thanks,

hmm, if the STB still responds incorrectly to button presses of both remotes when the TV is totally off (unplug it to be sure), then you may have an issue with the STB. It should not do that. Try placing the STB in another part of the room (or home if possible temporarily to see how it responds) and make sure you don't have any other IR interference (CFLs, etc) as outlined in the first link.

Second on the OPC... Mine was causing me headaches with my Bell Receiver.

OPC is off, AquosLink is also off.

I unplugged the TV and both remotes still changed channels when the volume buttons (and the rest on the TV remote) were pressed.

I guess I'm going to talk to shaw again about this and maybe get a new STB.

I recall a memo being sent out a couple weeks back specifically about the new Whistkler and Aquos TV where pressing the volume button could cause the DCT to pick up the signal as an 8. Apparently the #8 code for Pace Whistlers is the same as Aquos' volume.
It's posted on the known issues site so they should have been able to give you the following work around:
If the Atlas PVR remote has been programmed to control the TV volume, we can change the PVR remote functionality to control the volume on the PVR as opposed to the TV. Procedure is located on page 16-17 of the Shaw Atlas remote manual.

it is not just the volume. It seems as though nearly all buttons on the Aquos remote (even on/off) will result in the input of numbers to the PVR unit. It is not only 8s either...1, 8, 9, and 0 are all randomly inputted though 8 pops up most often (often two 8s with one push of the volume button).

I have the same problem on my rental Pace PVR with my Sharp TV.

I use harmony control to disable the volume buttons in order to slove it.

I want to know if this issue happen in DC758D too.

I have a 758D and Aquos LED, no such problems.

Thks SwivelHips

I will buy the pace 758D once my 770D free rental period is over.

I'm seeing the exact same problem that apecush describes with my 770D except it occurs when changing volume on my Denon AVR-4308 receiver. When I attempt to adjust the volume I'll usually see '8's or '9's appear as if entered with the PVR remote and then the channel will change. Others have described this same problem on other forums but I have yet to see a solution. Has anyone come up with a solution? Is it a firmware issue or do multiple devices use the same IR commands?

I did a bit more testing to be sure that I was not suffering from an "HDMI Link" issue or from IR interference. To clarify, my setup is a ceiling mounted FP with all of the equipment in a rack about 10 feet behind the projector. With every piece of gear I have turned off except for the PVR, the PACE 770D still responds to both up and down volume commands intended for the receiver from either my Denon remote or my Harmony 880 remote. As of right now I cannot control the volume of my setup without changing channels. Do I have a defective 770D? Any recommendations from anyone?

I sent Pace Technical Support an email this morning describing the issue I've brought up in this thread. Surprisingly I've already received a response which is great.

Pace Technical Support has confirmed that the issue of the 770D responding to commands intended for a Denon receiver is indeed a known issue and that a fix is in place. They mentioned that Shaw will be receiving new firmware soon that will correct this. Hopefully this will also fix some of the issues some have experienced with Sharp Aquos IR commands.

I'm having the exact same issues.

Recently bought a Sharp LC46D85UC and got a Shaw HDPVR Pace TDC770D today and the remotes seem to be interfering with each other. If I press menu, volume up/down etc on the Sharp remote the PVR brings up an 8 or a 0 or sometimes a 1. If I program the Atlas remote to control the TV, changing volume etc still has the same effect.

Turned off Aquos Link and OPC but doesn't seem to be helping.

Extremely frustrating - anyone found a solution to this?!

I just received a rental Pace TDC770D from Shaw and there is massive IR collision between that unit and my Sharp Aquos as well. Volume is especially bad, opening menus on the Pace and changing settings, flashing 8's all over the screen...

Anyone manage to resolve this issue yet?

I have the EXACT same problem.

Pace PVR and a Denon 4310.

Massive IR Collissions causing 8's, 1's and 0's to appear on the Pace PVR whenever I try to change volume or change sources on the Denon.

Does not happen with my old Motorola PVR which apparently uses the same IR codes.

Basically unusable at this point.

Sent a Tech Support email to Pace, and got a similar reply.

They know the problem exists, and are working with Shaw to release a firmware update before Christmas.

I'm back to my Motorola for now, hopefully they are right.

Yes, this is annoying me as well. I am trying to phone Shaw but when I get to the final option the phone seems to hang up on me...

Very frustrating to say the least.
