: Pace 770D / Sharp Aquos Remote Issue
petespee 2010-01-23, 08:56 PM Pace promised a firmware fix by end of 2009, and it's January 23rd with no fix.
In my case -- TWO Pace HD PVRs +TWO Denon amps = TWO Unusable home theatres.
finnesse 2010-01-28, 02:07 AM I have just installed shaw after years of bell and am so far, far from impressed.
Picture quality poor and equipment inferior. I will live with it because for now I have no line of site for my dish.
I have the pace pvr and a denon reciever, I also have encountered the 888 bug and when I change the volume with my Denon remote I also change the channel and get all sorts of mysterious garbble on the screen, I understand from this forum that this is a common problem and having no luck with tech support I am going to try a fix on my own. The receiver comes with a remote IR sensor that I will run to the other side of the room and will both deactivate the front panel and tape over the sensor on the panel. If this works I will drop a line, if anyone has already tried please let me know.
finnesse 2010-01-29, 01:50 AM OK, the support tech guy said you can disable the IR front panel IR receiver but the toogle he told was in the settings page was not there.
__push power button
__within 1 second push settings button
__go to FRONT PANEL menu and Deactivate the IR receiver.
__all well and good but the IR disable line is not even in the front panel menu.
I did however get the two devices to cooperate.
Attach remote IR receiver into back of Pace.
Get it as far away from the Denon as possible and tuck it back if you can.
Cover the front panel display with an opaque mask.
When you use the Denon remote for the volume aim up at an angle it is more powerful than the Pace remote so if you point it at the denon it will still cause a malfunction in the pace.(not a very good PVR to begin with)
Sounds like a fun little project for a device that I pay 20 bucks a month to rent eh...
petespee 2010-02-04, 01:54 PM Regarding this IR collision issue, I just got off chatting with Shaw and told them that Pace had promised a solution by End 2009.
The guy was very nice, and told me to bring in the Pace boxes to change them for Motorola boxes.
Not the ideal solution as they end up with 2 used Pace boxes back but it works for me.
tiki91 2010-02-08, 03:35 PM i just spoke to shaw also but they refuse to swap my pace rental for a motorola pvr . very disapointed. they are blaming the manufactures of the pvrs and amps.so i told them i was going to call telus.
Shaw Guru 2010-02-09, 11:50 AM Unfortunately Shaw does not rent any Motorola PVRs, only Pace PVRs are available as rental equipment. If you are adament about getting a Motorola there are still many retailers who are selling Motorola PVRs for you to get the model you want. :)
DueNorth 2010-02-23, 04:15 PM My Pace 578D works fine with a Share Aquos LCD TV. So I guess this issue is model specific (not all Pace models are affected).
petespee 2010-02-25, 01:25 AM Not true Shaw Guru.
I exchanged my 2 rental pace units for 2 rental motorola units end of January 2010.
Shaw was very nice about it. (then of course they sent me a bill full of errors, but that's another story....)
Shaw Guru 2010-02-25, 03:54 PM I stand corrected. All I can go by it the statement sent out to all branches that says we are only renting Pace PVRs and will not be renting Motorola PVRs. Sorry about that petespee. Was this due to an escaltion or something perhaps as this does not seem to be standard practice.
Sheky 2010-02-27, 11:14 AM Any news on the fix for this? I went from the Tahoe to the Whistler thinking it might fix the fast forward issue but only got more trouble in the remote. :(
LiveOnLocation 2010-02-28, 07:11 PM I just hooked up my Pace Whistler next to my Denon AVR 1805 and have the same annoyance. What a pain!! I do have the advantage of being able to move the Pace upstairs beside my Yamaha and put the DCT 6412 back down here by my Denon receiver.
Still a pain! maybe I'll tackle that tomorrow night.
I'll keep in touch and hopefully there is a firmware fix soon.
WarpedRenegade 2010-03-02, 06:25 PM Does anyone have any news as to a firmware release or a solution to the problem?
vecturist 2010-04-08, 01:04 PM I last called Shaw yesterday and they said the firmware was scheduled to be pushed early morning on the 8th (after being delayed from the 7th) for Whistler and Tahoe models, with Aspen and Summit following a week later.
However this morning I don't see any evidence that the firmware has been updated on my Whistler. The firmware version number remains at 13.93.
Anyone seen a firmware update?
vecturist 2010-04-09, 12:17 PM I'm happy to report that my Whistler box got updated (new firmware version is 17.10) and the remote interference problem appears to be completely solved. I have a Denon receiver, so I can't speak for Aquos TV owners.
tiki91 2010-04-09, 03:20 PM thats great will check mine when i get home tonight and report back
tiki91 2010-04-10, 11:11 AM mine took the update as well and no more 888888 on the screen with my denon amp remote. i am now a happy camper.
mussi 2010-04-18, 05:12 PM I have both Sharp Aquos Tv and Denon receiver for my set-up.
Imagine the frustration I had in the last 5 months when the Pace box would change channels or "888" everytime I tried to control the reciever or tv.
I called Shaw, and all I received from them was "use the universal remote", "not Shaw's or Pace's problem, must be problem with my set-up".....what a load of BS from the rep.
The latest firmware update has fixed this issue for me! -happy-:p
apecush 2010-04-27, 12:55 AM I figured I'd see some news here, as over the last while, I haven't really noticed the interference problem. Firmware fix has worked perfectly for me.
