^ By dealer you mean Future Shop. Note that for the price of the 9140, they will also include a Pioneer Blu-ray player model 320. It's a promotional package they have for the next few weeks.

Actually I was going to a place called Madman McKays..they are better to deal with, and I've been going there for years..I just don't trust the salespeople %100....but at Future Shop, they never seem to give you more than 5 mins of their time before they take off, drives me crazy.Madman guys will spend the day with you...they always look you up first in their computer before pricing, and then the prices start to drop!

I'll be going everywhere this weekend though. Great help everyone,I'll pick you all up something real nice;)

Well I went in to look at the VSX-21 for $999,and I left after 5 mins of explaining what I was looking for, etc. Every time I turned to look at the sales guy,he was off somewhere else, not listening, etc etc..I then asked about a trade in for my old AVR..he said sure,$99 bucks, same as they give everyone!? He also had no intention of dropping the price at all,and it just wasn't worth the effort dealing with him. Also, they no longer sell Paradigm speakers, claiming they dropped Paradigm as quality isn't very good, yet just last year they were quite proud of the brand..Too bad,I need a new CC to go with my Titans...

I'm pretty sure I'm going to get a vsx-21 or 23 online...Its less than 1/2 the price of what I'd pay here, which covers a bit of not having a warranty, should it ever need any work....I'm a risk taker, what can I say...even more so with the $ saved...

Any ideas of a good CC to go with my Titans in the 200-$400 range?

Isn't there anywhere else in Canada you can buy an Elite from?

Also, what is the current AVR you're trying to sell? The price of AVR drop tremendously especially for the non-HDMI types. I sold my Elite 45TX last year for only $400 (paid close to $2,000) when I upgraded to SC-05 and I only got $1,100 (paid close to $2,000) for my (then) 6 month-old SC-05 when I upgraded to the SC-25.

Well,OK my AVR is a Pio VSX-816,not exactly worth a ton of $! But I figured they would offer $150 or a little more, then leave the sticker price at $999, or drop the price with the $99 trade in,but there were no 'incentives' offered at all.

I'm looking for another spot to buy locally. We'll see.

BTW I know AVR's are changing all the time, and when I bought the 816 I was on a tight budget, and was aware it was already missing some things that I would want in a few years,ie HDMI,HD codecs, etc, but I hope that the VSX-21 or 23 fill my needs for quite awhile.
Thanks

I don't mean any disrespect, but the new 819 is only $400 (with the ocassional sale price of only $300) with features much better than the almost-4-gen old 816. The fact that he offers you $100 is a very good thing... still 33% of the current lowest street price in Canada. I don't see that my SC-25 that I plan to buy (another one) in February '10 (will be costing me more than $2,000) will worth more than $1,200 by September '10... that's almost 50% loss after only about 6 months of usage AND still with 2.5 years warranty left.

His attitude, however, is disgusting.

If you plan to hang on to your receiver for longer period of time, the VSX-23 will suit you better... but don't be surprised that in 5 years time it will be worth no more than $200.

PS: most of the Pioneer receivers, especially the 919, 1019, 21 and 23 are selling like hotcakes. Also in that price range, IIRC, the Pioneer is currently holding the number 1 market share. So it'll be hard-pressed you can get much discount off of them.

Sales of an item shouldn't matter if you have a good salesman. When I called the guy I buy a lot of my gear from looking for the Marantz 6003 (Andrew at Audio ark in Edmonton), a guy I trust, he said they were selling like hotcakes and only had one left. He was nice enough to hold it for me until I had a chance to drive there a week later knowing fully well he could easily sell it, and he still gave me 20% off as I was an established customer of his.

It's too bad you don't have somewhere like this to go to.

I know of Audio Ark... they are a good bunch!

They really are. It's nice to go to a place and not feel rushed, not feel pressured for an upsell, and talk to people who really know there stuff. It's cool when they have their premiere nights for high end gear. I know a lot of people on this forum don't believe in the price for performance ratio of high end, but it's pretty awesome to listen to Mark Levinson, Arcam, Sonus Faber, Bryston and so on.

if your input is HDMI you can't output it via component. It's a copyright thing.

This just occured to me,if I am running this new AVR (say the VSX-23TXH) using HDMI connections from my BD player and HD settop box, am I not going to be able to run component out to my non HDMI projector?! Oh boy...

Is this right?

eimaj

That is correct. But if your projector has a dvi input, you can use an hdmi to dvi connector.

Ok,well it doesn't have DVI either.

Can you use component from the BD player to the AVR for video and HDMI to the AVR for the audio only? I just want to make sure I can get the HD audio.

My HD TV box is not an issue I guess,as I will continue with the component/optical connections used currently..

Thanks

Don't know, but that will be your only option unless you replace the projector.

If it does work, all you will be getting from the player is 1080i (I believe, someone correct me if i'm wrong) for br and 480p for upconverted dvds. Copyright protection issues prevent component from going 1080p.

not all BD player will allow you to disable HDMI video AND enable HDMI audio at the same time (usually HDMI video on, HDMI audio on; or HDMI video on, HDMI audio off). I know my PS3 and Samsung 1200 can NOT do that but IIRC, my Elite BDP-23 can.

Why not get a BD player that provide analog output to your AVR? then you can use component to connect to your projector. Of course the best solution is to replace your projector! BTW, if a projector didn't have hdmi or even dvi, I doubt it is a 1080p unit so why you care about 1080p output form BD?

I just bought the 9140 and have read about this issue on another forum. Does anyone have issues with either the Elite 21/23 or the 9140 running Hdmi to a PJ or TV with a fairly long cable length? This is happening to some people and requires a booster after the receiver to correct, almost like the signal is weakened enough to cause problems because when the receiver is removed from the chain everything syncs correctly.

It's the HDMI cable. Not all HDMI cable created the same. Believe it or not, at a 50ft run, passing High-Speed Transmission from my BDP-05 to SC-05 to the projector can not be done unless I use Monster HD1000M cable.

I tried similarly priced Ultralink, much lower priced Monoprice, they all fail. Changed to the Monster, suddenly it works with no problem.
