Cue the weird sci-fi music...
While camping in the mountains in September my truck (low kms and very well maintained for a 2004) suffered a blowout in its left-rear tire on a forestry road, so I changed to the spare and put my 12V air pump on it to top up the pressure.
After about an hour of the pressure not going up very much the truck's battery had run flat (it was on its last legs but I didn't know it was that bad!) so I took out one of the camper's batteries to boost from it and then reinstalled everything back. I hooked up the 12V air pump again and it worked for about 2 minutes and then was red hot and melted down. I crept the truck along in order to get to a major paved road.
Then 27km later the odometer read as follows:

Then only 14km later the right-rear tire blew out with a huge bang, so there I was up in the woods with no spare. A samaritan in a big RV gave me and my dogs a ride to the local general store from which I called roadside assistance to arrange for a new tire. His service and professionalism was terrific, and then I followed him to his shop in the nearest bigger town to get the other tires replaced and a new battery put in.
