Ham.Clan 2010-09-20, 03:52 PM ... the video appears to add a sense of vertigo and imminent danger. The reality isn't nearly as scary.
You're joking right?
As a self-confessed "fraidy cat" when it comes to heights, I would respectfully disagree.
Hanging fully exposed 1768 ft in the air seems pretty darn scary to me.
rlongfield 2010-09-20, 04:05 PM He was also concerned that it was entitled as a tutorial
I don't anyone that would have considered this a tutorial. Unless it was a tutorial in queesy stomachs, vertigo, sweaty palms and an overall sense of uneasyness. But his complete statement explains why they wanted the video down.
I'm glad to hear it isn't normal for free climbs.... That is just too crazy.

Billsmith 2010-09-22, 05:38 PM Wowwww! Thanks L'inquisiteur! Looks like Rhode & Schwarz if I'm not mistaken?
Also seems like the gear hasn't been powered up yet - still got tag labels on it! Probably still installing the cooling system and antenna connection components?
L'inquisiteur 2010-09-22, 06:30 PM Yes, BackUp transmitters, Rohdes And Schwarz 5 kw.
Main transmitter, Harris 30 Kwatts IOT (september 2011).
They will be tests in october.
Billsmith 2010-09-22, 10:04 PM Harris IOTs. Wowww! Top notch units! So when will the 5kw units be online?
The UHF combiner must be a point of interest as well as the dummy loads. Are the 5Kw units using DTV mask filters? I hear that the Tx outputs are normally very clean nowadays?
Where are the High Voltage power supplies for the IOT's? Is there much more support equipment installed elsewhere?
schoenbe 2010-09-23, 12:36 AM These are all TV broadcast antennas currently installed on the Mont Royal main broadcast tower. The CBFT/CBMT backup antennas have been fully installed now (see vertical sticks on SW and NE corners of lower portion of the tower, at same height as CBMT analog antenna). They will start broadcasting DT programs before the end of the year and until August 31 2011.

downbeat 2010-09-23, 01:57 AM Are those two backup antennas used in tandem for CBFT-DT and CBMT-DT, or is each whip for one station?
L'inquisiteur 2010-10-11, 06:33 PM One antenna for CBMT-DT and the other for CBFT-DT.

Were are gonna use 30 kilowatts water cool load for the main transmitter.
The combiner is suppose to arrive at the begining og the new years.

Wirenut 2010-10-19, 10:35 AM Thanks for the info l'inquisiteur. I live on the south shore and saw those antennas every time I drove by on the 30. Then one day, they were GONE!! So I've been wondering about that.
I though that maybe the strong winds we'd had had brought them down?... Unlikely of course because of all the really sturdy guy wires that were anchoring those towers but still... Thanks for clearing that up for me.
Just one little favor... I clicked on the link for the YouTube video and it takes me to a page that requires me to subscribe before I can watch it. Any chance you might make the video available to everyone?
Unless of course there's nudity in the video, then I understand. ;)
Doppelganger399 2010-11-10, 04:04 AM Here are a couple of the CJON (NTV) tower in Newfoundland. Sorry for the poor quality. I also have some of the CBC tower but they're not worth posting, not very good views. I've explored all kinds of tower sites but only ever had my camera phone along to take pics. That looks like the main oz/ntv transmitter on the South Side Hills, I am directly under the oz fm/ntv/cbnt transmitter site for Marystown on the Tolt there are 2 other towers here which I believe are for radio and cell phones, no pic can't upload I am not what you would call skilled on the pc.

Mike FM 2010-11-11, 04:52 PM I don't know actually, I'm looking at the application but haven't found an explicit antenna Manufacturer. I just take the pictures!

stampeder 2010-11-26, 01:58 AM Awesome gear - are they sending the klystron with it too, or are they using another one, or maybe using an IOT (not likely for VHF-LO though)?
