PrinceLH 2009-10-12, 10:27 PM I was down to the United States, in the Watertown, NY, area this weekend. Since many of you folks, have picked up the three Watertown stations, when the summer ducting season was happening, here is the gift. Pictures of the actual towers for you to see where it was coming from.

WWNY Transmitter.

The top of the tower, looking south. Notice the channel 7 VHF antenna at the top and just below it, on the west side, notice the new WNYF channel 35 Low power antenna.

WWTI, channel 50(21), near Copenhagan, NY.
Something to get you guys up near Ottawa and the west end of Lake Ontario to contemplate over the winter months, as we wait for DXing time again.
PrinceLH 2009-10-12, 10:29 PM A couple more Pic's.

Channel 7 and 35, from a distance, looking east, on Champion Hill, near Carthage.

WWTI, channel 50(21), near Copenhagan, NY. The tower is less than a 1/4 mile from WPBS, in the background, looking west.

WPBS channel 16(41) near Copenhagan, NY, looking southwest.
Wharfe 2009-10-13, 06:05 PM thanks for these!! I love tower pics
PrinceLH 2009-10-13, 10:01 PM Decided to go away and see the changing of the colours, in the Adirondack Mountains. Since I was driving through the area, I decided to get pictures of those towers. The Watertown locals are in a unique area, when it comes to ducting. All are near the Adirondack's, on small mountains and close enough to Lake Ontario to make a difference. Many in the Ottawa Valley and the Golden Horseshoe have had the pleasure of picking up these stations on good DX days. These channels are about 82 miles from me, here in Belleville, Ontario, and they are as rock solid, as any other U.S. locals that I can receive. If they only had an NBC affiliate, it would be perfect.
stampeder 2009-10-20, 11:30 PM Shot from the CN Tower lower deck, one or both of these antennas belong to OMNI TV in Toronto, and the building is First Canadian Place:

Tom.F.1 2009-10-21, 12:55 PM Nice shot. 47 is at CN tower, not first Canadian place.
The rest of the antennas are FM's. CBC and Rogers.
stampeder 2009-10-21, 01:10 PM Here's another shot of them taken from the upper observation deck, but the plexiglass windows on the CN Tower combined with the image resizing and jpeg compression kills a lot of the detail:

Wharfe 2009-10-21, 01:53 PM Here are a couple of the CJON (NTV) tower in Newfoundland. Sorry for the poor quality. I also have some of the CBC tower but they're not worth posting, not very good views. I've explored all kinds of tower sites but only ever had my camera phone along to take pics.

magnet 2009-10-21, 02:00 PM May I suggest folks who are hooked on broadcast towers go visit Rochester New York's own Scott Fybush's website. Google "fybush nerw" to visit his North East Radio watch website and his tower of the week pix from all over North America.
99gecko 2009-10-21, 05:55 PM I made a trip to see this one while in San Francisco last year but didn't have a chance to take any pics - this one is borrowed from wikipedia. It is a very unique structure.

San Francisco writer Herb Caen once said, “I keep waiting for it to stalk down the hill and attack the Golden Gate Bridge.”
TaylorTech 2009-10-21, 08:37 PM I thought I'd post a pic I took of the Gatineau Hills. It's that huge rod in the background. This is from the Rideau Canal's locks, just to help people get an idea of there the tower is located.
Enjoy!

Just wondering, does anyone know how to scale it on the forum?
mlord 2009-10-21, 09:19 PM There's a typo in the link, the photo is blurry and wayyyy too large, the Ryan tower is wayyy too small in the background, and the tower on the apartment block is competing with it for attention.
A transmitter tech sent me these many years ago. I'd like to give him credit, but I haven't been able to locate the email.
stampeder 2009-10-22, 11:35 AM I copied Billsmith's CICT Global Calgary tower replacement photos to the beginning of this thread.
As magnet mentioned, the fybush site is great for tower junkies. :)
stampeder 2009-10-22, 02:13 PM Saw this link on Gord Landsdell's Northwest Broadcasters site:

It sounds like someone with a chainsaw was cutting the guy wires! :)

Lindsay649 2009-10-22, 02:23 PM Knocking them down would cost more than the metal is worth. What was the reason.......tv or radio?
jumpy27 2009-10-22, 03:15 PM I would think one would be the cost of maintaining them (liability insurance perhaps), and if they are not needed then they would be an eyesore.
Danster 2009-10-22, 03:27 PM I like the sound of the WHOOOOOSH as it comes down. Kinda eerie!! :o
