: Motorola DCX3400 Thread

I'm starting this because I'm quite interested in the newer Motorola DCX3400, which is somewhat more future proof that the current DCT6416/3416 offerings (~3ish year old technology) because it includes dual MPEG4-AVC/MPEG2 tuners and Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 channel capability.

Here's some resources:

On April 9, 2009, Shaw Broadcast Services sent an internal bulletin to their offices indicating that the DCX3400 had been tested and could now be purchased and authorized:

Having spoken with a CSR about this box this morning, their reply was:

Regarding newer Motorola equipment, you are likely referring to the
Motorola DCX3400. Unfortunately, we don't have any details as of yet if
or when Shaw will be making this particular terminal available to
customers.

So if anyone hears anything more firm on an expected rollout date, it would be much appreciated if you could update us here.

Cheers,
The REAL Joe

Not sure why Shaw would roll out the DCX3400 anytime soon when they're just released the latest line of Pace products that seem to support the same set of features - the Pace Summit does MPEG4 and supports external drives.

Also noticed the the new Pace products have an IR receiver port on the back, discrete on/off codes which are great if you're hooking it up to a universal remote or home automation system.

What does the DCX offer that the Pace Aspen or Summit doesn't?

Joe, what you're looking at from Shaw Broadcast is a message to other cable companies that are on the HITS QT platform, telling them that the DCX line works with HITS QT. It is not an internal Shaw memo and doesn't have anything to do with Shaw Cable.

Don't expect the DCX line anytime soon, what with the new Pace boxes they're rolling out.

I'm assuming that they need something in addition to Pace because for whatever reason, in MB they've decided that Pace boxes are only for rent, and Motorola boxes are only available for purchase. They will not bend on this, you cannot buy a Pace box here.

Maybe that's just a short-term marketing tactic to get rid of the remaining stock of the existing older Motorola boxes and they might change their rent/purchase policy once that's done, but until then, there are no other purchase options locally for newer more future proof boxes, so I was holding out hope that the DCX3400 might be next in line.

Time will tell...

Cheers,

This isn't true. Shaw just installed a Pace Aspen at my parents today (North Vancouver). They gets it 6 months for free, and then can either rent it or buy it outright afterwards.

The company I work for just started offering the DCX3400(250 gig) for rental along with the DCX3200. Both have the MoCa options but we aren't offering the MoCa service yet. Nice units.

There's several versions of these boxes.
3200
3200-M (MoCa)
3400
3400-M (MoCa)
The 3400's also come with 3 different harddrive sizes. (160,250,320 gig)
The 3400's also have ext hard drive option as well.

AFF, are external hard drives working on your DCX's yet? I had heard that the firmware to support that was due from Motorola at the end of September.

I bought a pace box from Best Buy, so who say they are for rent is incorrect.

Pace Summits (all digital) are only available as purchase DCTs. The Pace Whistler will be a rental DCT in most markets (all digital markets it's rental and non-all digital you can buy it as the Summit would not be available)
