: Who's to blame: Sony or Cogeco (Green Line)

Hi to all,

New Sony Bravia 47'' has a green vertical line on the right hand side of screen from top to bottom, half inch approx. This occurs only on HD channels whenever I set it to full pixels.

To correct this some viewers suggest I set my tv to 720 instead of 1080, some suggest I fix the horizontal screen to make it disappear. Whatever I do it is always there.

Who's to blame: Cogeco cable (Qc) upgrades, Sony or myself for not having setup correctly?

Is there a way to get rid of it?

All answers would be appreciated.

Thanks

Probably None of the above.

Likely the problem lies with Motorola

Is there a way to get rid of it?Yes, don't use 1:1 pixel mapping until Cogeco fix the "underscan" issue with new firmware. See post 5 of the link hugh provided.

What does that mean (don't use 1:1 pixel mapping) do you mean that I should not set it on full pixel? Or is there a setting for 1:1 pixel mapping?

Thanks

I thought that my link was pretty clear, but let me elaborate. Don't set the TV on "full pixel" if that's the 0% overscan setting. Use the 1-2% overscan setting to eliminate the bar. See the following FAQ.

The 0% overscan setting is called different things by different manufacturers and is enabled on various TVs in different ways - some via a stretch mode, some via HDMI settings, etc. If you set your TV so that it has 1-2% overscan, then the bar should no longer be visible. You may have to read the TV's operating manual if you can't find the appropriate settings in the user menu.

I have a Sony Z4100 LCD TV along with a Motorola 3416 with digital service through Shaw.

Cogeco hasn't likely updated the firmware for the 3416's yet, as Shaw recently rolled out an update that fixes that issue when TVs are set to 1:1 display (aka "Full" on Sony TV's).

What you need to do in the meantime, is set the TV back to 1080i (or whatever Cogeco uses as default) and go into your screen settings and change the display area from "Full" to "Normal". Normal crops the picture a bit, but it eliminates the green line so watching TV can be enjoyable.
