The last three nights I have gotten this message on my 9200 - An internal communications failure has occured. then it goes to a status screen and i can do nothing be reset the box.

First step would be to ensure proper ventialtion. Make sure the fan is still working properly (and clean).
Second step is likely prepare yourself for complete hardware failure. Not sure which component is starting to fail, but it sounds like loss of service is imminent.
Typically, other than some HDD stuff, there is little you can do as a consumer in terms of fixing the receiver.
You cxan try a reset, checking the fan and ventilation, but beyond that just cross your fingers and hope it goes away. (or sign up for the Dish Care (warranty) while it still works)

I used to this this message a lot many years ago, I think it was on the 5100 models but have not seen it on a 9200.
I would agree with dosborne, that it appears to be indicative of a total failure pretty soon.
I might be tempted to try re-formatting the Hard Drive, other than that, Dish Care is a great option.

Sounds like the harddisk is about to crash or some related component is going into failure. It's unlikely you can do much to prevent this. Perhaps lower your system temperatures might hold it off, but unlikely.
