: Shaw to launch AMC in HD
CenterIce 2009-10-25, 01:48 PM How stretched SD qualifies as HD is beyond me. I was under the mistaken impression that "High Definition" had something to do with the picture resolution. There's absolutely no point to watch this channel, let alone pay a cent for it because one or two shows actually in HD is hardly worth it.
pmcd76 2009-10-25, 04:06 PM don't like it, don't watch it.
+1 ^^^^ for me, until this is a true HD channel it will never be watched. It is a waste of bandwidth.
Nanuuk 2009-10-25, 04:47 PM Seems like its an Aliens weekend. I've had the opportunity to watch Alien on AMC and Superchannel. If the AMC version was an upconvert, it was very good.
Alexo 2009-10-27, 11:15 AM Riley,
I've also noticed the guide info to be continually wrong on AMCHD and your First Blood Part II example was one I noticed too. Or last night it said "Exorcist: The Beginning" but an old black and white Dracula was on. If you turned to SD AMC the guide info said Dracula and of course it was showing the Dracula. This seems to be a common occurance half the time I look at AMCHD in the guide. Top Gun stretchovision is always correct, though.
Alexo 2009-10-27, 11:22 AM Seems like its an Aliens weekend. I've had the opportunity to watch Alien on AMC and Superchannel. If the AMC version was an upconvert, it was very good.
Really? I flipped to it to have a look and it looked like a mess to me. Though to be fair I don't remember which Alien movie it was so we may have saw different ones.
Nanuuk 2009-10-27, 08:46 PM Yeah. Seriously. I was rubbing my eyes on this one. It could be the clarity of the film making, but it was very difficult to discern the difference.
ttodd 2009-11-01, 08:47 PM I'm hoping for the day that TCM will go HiDef.. along with it's truth in programing for unedited and comercial free as well as hard to find titles or unreleased titles are all here on TCM in its true OAR as well..
I know it's an expensive ordeal but with the revenue that TCM is pulling in thru it's 'buy the DVD' program I'm sure that day will come ...
bmambo 2009-11-01, 09:33 PM Just flipped thru channels and noticed the movie "Outbreak", starring Dustin Hoffman, etc. is definitely in HD. In fact, the lower right AMC logo clearly says "AMC HD". Has shaw made arrangements for the actual HD feed now? Should I add AMC/225 back into my favorites list?
ttodd 2009-11-01, 09:36 PM it may be in HD but was it stretched? and not shown in anamorphic widescreen? as EAHD does on a consistant basis..
ttodd 2009-11-01, 09:47 PM I just confirmed that it is indeed in true HD no stretching ..
Now was Outbreak a 2.35 or a 1.78 film?? because it is in 1.78 tonight..
I have time shifted some other titles later tonight and will verify for sure that Ghostbusters is indeed a 2.35 film ..
wlee15 2009-11-02, 03:00 AM Shaw changes over to AMC HD at around 7:30 MT to show Mad Men and Breaking Bad and then change back around 12:00 MT.
cslusarc 2009-11-02, 12:02 PM I watched the 10:02 pm CT "instant replay" of Mad Med and it was great. It was shown in HD, why can't AMC HD show more programming in HD?
domi222 2009-11-02, 12:24 PM Been watching Amc Hd this morning and the past 2 movies i've seen so far have been shown in Hd even the actual Amc hd logo is in the bottom right hand corner.
rileyparrish 2009-11-02, 02:55 PM Outbreak was in HD and original aspect ratio (technically OAR is 1.85:1 but for broadcast they always show those AR's as 1.78:1). If Oceans Twelve (next) is in HD I think we finally have gotten AMC HD.
EDIT: Well obviously the guide information Shaw's receiving is still WRONG but everything is still in HD!
wlee15 2009-11-02, 03:20 PM Yep it seems like AMC HD is finally up on Shaw.
jumpy27 2009-11-02, 03:31 PM It took them long enough.
Nanuuk 2009-11-02, 07:21 PM I watched a portion of Outbreak and thought it was HD (like Aliens last week), but I didn't see an AMC HD logo. Perhaps AMC isn't using that logo anymore?
smegger2000 2009-11-02, 08:10 PM The Prisoner mini-series starts it's 6 hour run on Nov 15/16/17 on AMC so its good news that they finally have this figured out. Looking forward to it.
Here's the trailer off of youtube.

xclaw 2009-11-04, 01:34 AM Watching Batman Returns tonight and the quality is terrible. I'd be better off sticking the dvd in and having the TV upscale it to "HD" better than whatever technology AMC is using.
Is it even worth complaining to Shaw or am I just a lost voice in the crowd?
