I wish they had a satellite installation for Dummies Book! I need a simple step by step with drawings guide. ha I am just setting up a satellite it is Starchoice and the receiver is Motorola dsr317. We used a satellite location finder and a compass to find the right location. I think I have hooked everything up correctly although I'm not positive. All I get is a blank screen with a white box saying (Aquiring satellite signal please wait)and the power button is red not green. I am so frustrated..I have been without tv for two months. I would REALLY appreciate any help you are able to offer. Thanks!!!

I would suggest you take the receiver and TV close to your dish.

hook receiver to LNB, then TV to receiver, then turn both on.

Tune receiver to K channel (354)

Then go to under the menu, go to installation settings, then hit tune satellite signal. Options, then hit 6, then 4, then 3, then 1

anyway, you will get the tuner that you can use, it gives off a tone, and a red horizontal bar is across the bottom of the screen. you adjust your dish by a few degrees, wait about 15 seconds, and try again. once you lock in a signal, the tone will be more constant, the bar will be yellow, then green, then you're good to go. tighten your dish, make sure everything is good. turn everything off, disconnect everything, then connect the LNB to the line going into your house. Good luck!

Satellite installation 101:

For the average users, those aiming guides/pointing calculators are just a start. The dish needs actually aimed to the satellite according to the signal meter on the receiver, and peaked to Ebno oprionally.

it would be best to use channel 507 for aiming since that is found on the f1 satellite transponder 1, and there is nothing similar on the f2 satellite that might give you a green signal light. that way you can be positive you have it aimed on the correct satellite.
judging by the model number it sounds like you have a used receiver so it will probably have channel 507 in it's channel map, however if it is a new receiver you may have only a few channels in the map and may have to use channel 299 or 284 to aim the dish and once you have a green light wait 5 minutes til the new channel map has loaded. then you can go to one of the free channels like 351 access, 354 knowledge network, 392 shopping, 200 ppv preview to verify that you are on the right satellite. if you don't get a picture on those channels, you may be aimed on f2 instead of f1, but you should now have ch507 in the map to use to aim the dish.
