Thanks for the advice/direction Tom - very much appreciated!

I have yet to measure the access panel for attic to see if they will fit. If you recommend the DB-8 over the 4221 then I will certainly look into that.

Roof mount with tripod is certainly something I would consider...although I am not good with heights (another reason I was thinking attic)...so would almost certainly need an installer to do that.

I will be ditching/selling the Cogeco receivers...so would be using the money made to purchase the CM7000PAL DVR.

Is there a resources or separate forum here where I can find local installers (Burlington)? Apologies if there is - I simply haven't found it yet...as I would certainly need someone to come and install anything on the roof itself.

Thanks again.

I am thinking about increasing the height of my Winegard HD8200 antenna, [with a CM 7777 preamp] by adding one or two sections of tower. The antenna is currently about 50' from the ground. Obviously I would have to then brace the tower with cables, as I am at the maximum unbraced height now. The run to the TV is about 120' of RG6.

There are some days when reception is VERY good, [I have even pulled in stations from Rochester NY once in a while] and other days when even some Buffalo stations are quite weak or not there at all.

Would an extra 10-20 feet in height help me much, or is it not worth the effort?

Here is a picture of my current setup: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showpost.php?p=1237167&postcount=645

Thanks

300sflyer,
just type in a new height at tvfool. This would be the place I would start and see if any channels increase in power and LOS.
That's a nice antenna you have.

Here are the two results. Looks like it would be a bit better going to 70'. What do you think guys... Is it worth it?

300 all the stations that are LOS should be 99% reliable. All your Buffalos are already LOS which stations are giving problems.Assuming your aiming correctly dont see why you would have problems except during tropo activity.Increasing height will not help much for stations showing LOS .

7.2, 51.1, .2 and .3, as well as 10.1, .2 and .3 are all intermittent. I thought that perhaps going up another 20' might help.

Thanks,

The only station showing significant improvement is WGRZ going from a NM of -17.5 to 16.6 and LOS. ION would probably be better as well @ -3.6 NM but I could not say if it would be "year round" reliable. As far as WHEC @ -16.8 NM and 127 miles I would say that is not going to be real reliable as well.

Unfortunately, all you can really do is try and test at that height. Bottom line, if it was me, nadda chance.

So... All I need are a few volunteers from this forum to climb my tower, then stand on each others shoulders and hold my arial as high as they can, while I check my TV to see if my reception is any better!:o LOL!! ;)

300 everyone in the west GTA has problems with ION WPXJ from Batavia NY,WNGS THIS -tv is almost impossible to get with their 66 metre tower and Rochester is far and has only 500ft towers. These are all fringe stations not really available.ION usually gets stable and strong during the warmer months. The others I rarely ever get.Your set up is as good as it gets.

Also be sure to check if there are any local by-laws or other regulations about going that high.

I contacted the town of Halton Hills bylaw people, and was imformed that the maximum height of an antenna, without a permit, is 16.6 meters. Permits to erect anything higher are just shy of $500, and in addition one has to provide engineered drawings for their approval.

Looks like I will be sticking with what I have. :)

What is the status/quality of OTA at the Walkers Line/ Upper Middle Rd. area in Burlington ?

Not bad. Have Super Bowl Party ever year. Fox is a bit of a pain but other Networks are fine. Don't pull in Toronto stations.

I'm using a 8 bay outdoor antenna (Channel Master). That being said, it's inside since I'm in a condo.

north49,

I'm between Walkers and Guelph Lines south of Dundas. OTA is outstanding here... with exceptions. The biggest issue is what james99 hinted at: the warm weather tropo dead zone for WUTV-DT. From May through September, 29 disappears sometime between 8 and 9 PM... any time it's been a sunny day.
