I drill through the tee and the EMT and insert a #8 self tapping screw. You can see it in pic 4 above. That makes it pretty solid. I may add a second screw per tee.

So far my results on my test tripod are pretty disappointing. I'll take any suggestions as to what I did wrong on the build.

Double check all the measurements and spacings. Try another balun.

I checked all the measurements and they match your plans. The balun is known to be good.

The measurement I am not sure of is the spacing from the mesh at the ends of the elements.

Also, I don't have the 1" gap in the mesh, just the spine in the way.

Only a few feet above the ground ? The GHs dont kick in until 10 or 12 ft off the ground.
Most high gain antennas will be outperformed by low gain antennas close to the ground. (thats what Ive observed)

It is about 15 ft. up. How far should the ends of the elements be from the mesh?

3.94 inches, same as it is in the center. Sweep the ends of the element forward to match the mesh sweep.

peano,
I'm new to this antenna world and I'm trying to learn as much as possible.
I looked through your picture gallery.
Very impressive.
You've done a lot of testing of various antennas.
However, l have one question for you.
How in the world do you get up your antenna tower to mount your antennas.
It looks really scary and almost impossible to do.

Thanks. I climb up the tower onto the roof, tie myself off and lower the main mast down into the tower.

That brings the top of the rotor around shoulder height. I undo the bolts holding the smaller mast and lift it off (the trickiest part).

Well, I looked at it again and in my haste to get the antenna up, I put the frame on the wrong side of the mesh. So the elements were over 5 -6" away.
Doh!!

I took it apart and reassembled properly and it is working much better. I can compare it to my 91XG with RC9260 amp in seconds. So far, it is getting more channels 15 ft up versus 30 ft for the XG. More testing is needed, but so far I am impressed.

Thanks 300ohm for the design and to DHC and Stampeder for this great forum.

Yeah, that will hurt. The reflector to element sweet spot range is only about 20mm (and peak, only about 5mm).

Also, you should notice the GH has a little less daytime channel fading than the XG.

I have the SBGH10CM 30 ft up now and it does better on some channels, not as well as the 91XG on others.

Real 14 is slightly better as is 33 but the higher channels are not as strong. I also get ION more consistently. But real 34 is not as strong. Weird.
