: OTA Station Status: Montréal, QC, Northern NY & VT
intravino 2010-10-24, 12:10 PM 2- As was posted by others, I was also receiving W52CD, but in the past week, it was gone again. Seems like the same old story with these guys.
As well, I looked over at the FCC TV Query site, no sign of a digital transition for W52CD. Some of the other low-powered analog licenses for WNMN-DT do have DTV licenses for transition. But, they appear to be for use of UHF 49, UHF 30. Not sure if the guys running WNMN-DT know that those channel numbers are being used in or around Montreal that would case problems for their signals to reach Montreal.
This is what I found over at the FCC site...
W49BI (UHF 49) digital
WBVT (UHF 30) not clear, power increase?
WGMU (UHF 49) digital
WGMU management told that: no money, no candy. They need new funds for preforming the digital transition. Nothing is done up to now.
As for W52CD, It worked good for me for 3-4 days, I never say the signal has good then in that period, but now like Blackburst said, It's gone again.
HDfan2 2010-10-29, 09:15 AM Very poor reception for channel 12 this morning...other Montreal analog channels vg.
downbeat 2010-11-04, 01:46 PM A member in the French forums (lives in Rosemont, indoor antenna, with view of CBC building obstructed) reports a significant increase in reception for CBFT-DT to never-before-seen levels. It's leading me wonder if CBC has transferred DTV operations to Mount Royal? Or testing perhaps?
mille 2010-11-04, 03:31 PM it's longer than they expected, so, they hope to be on air from Mt-Royal around dec, 20....
mile,
it's longer than they expected, so, they hope to be on air from Mt-Royal around dec, 20....
where you get this from? thnaks
mille 2010-11-08, 05:35 PM @Balm
i exchange e-mail with a tech at CBC MTL....
Hope he will tell me more when they will do some on-air tests
;)
i guess no Habs until next year:(
downbeat 2010-11-08, 10:23 PM @mille: Did your contact explain the reason for the delay?
L'inquisiteur 2010-11-09, 08:50 PM Before puting on the air a new station on Mt-Royal, we must remove the moratorium on NIR.
The tests with the new FM antenna are gonna be next week, those tests are necessary to remove the moratory on NIR (Non Ionising Radiation).
downbeat 2010-11-10, 12:14 AM Ah — I thought those had already been taken care of. Thanks for clarifying.
dorthensensens 2010-11-15, 09:16 AM What do these tests consist of? Is it some sort of radiation detection?
stampeder 2010-11-15, 10:49 AM Yes, it is unsafe for humans to be in an environment with too high an NIR value, so it has to be either avoided or reduced before work can continue.
HDfan2 2010-11-26, 08:42 PM Channel 12 CTV reception today poor to non-existent :P
tvlurker 2010-11-29, 12:01 PM The CRTC has posted the CBC's application for SRC service (http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2010/2010-887.htm) in Three Rivers.
It looks like the CBC will be shutting down CBC English Service on ch. 28 in the Mauricie, and using the existing channel 28 antenna on the TVA tower to broadcast CKTM-DT on channel 28, abandoning the channel 13 antenna on the Cogeco tower. Details here (https://services.crtc.gc.ca/pub/DocWebBroker/OpenDocument.aspx?AppNo=201016387).
So now the only co-channel issues for WVNY will be from CJOH in Ottawa.
Bad news for anglophones, and francophone OTA hockey viewers in the Northern Mauricie, though.

mille 2010-11-29, 01:58 PM CKTM is creating strong interferences at the cottage, in the Laurentians, so it will certainly help there.
Same in Montreal, in Mile-end, near Outremont, CKTM signal is interferring too..
CBMT will broadcast at a power between 450 and 850 KW, on channel 21 from Mt-Royal, so it might be possible for some people in Mauricie to catch it...will see...
downbeat 2010-11-29, 02:14 PM According to Stampeder's listings:
http://www.user.dccnet.com/jonleblanc/Canada_TV_Stations/DT.html
CBMT post-transition DTV will use a shade more than 436 kW from Mount Royal on Channel 21.

Good Lord! I live just down the hill from Mount Royal, will it overload my tuner?
Blackburst 2010-11-29, 07:16 PM mr_raider... I'm with you as well. I'm close to the transmitter site as well.
mille 2010-11-29, 09:03 PM Well, actually, CFJP (V) is broadcasting on channel 35 analog at 697 KW, and Tele-Quebec, on channel 17 analog at 889 Kw, and your tuner don't overload, no ?!
It won't much overload with CBMT ay 436 Kw....
Mille, I really don't think that Montreal stations are broadcasting at these power levels during the transition period. If I recall, TQc is at something like 15 kW. And after transition, the trend seams to be that most stations will reduce their coverage compared with analog. I don't think that overload will be a problem. In fact the problem will be more about people not being able to receive a decent signal and being forced to get cable or satellite.
