To translate from Googlese, all FM and TV transmitters on the Mount Royal Tower will be shutdown between the hours of midnight and 5:30 AM between Sept. 6 and Sept. 16. CBC and SRC radio services will continue with reduced coverage from a backup tower in Brossard until Sept.16.

This is also confirmed by CFCF's website:

http://montreal.ctv.ca/ (http://montreal.ctv.ca/) which says no OTA midnight to 5:30 AM until the end of September, and reduced power during the day this week.

Couldn't find anything on Vtele, TVA, Global, Tele-Quebec, Astral, nrj, or Corus websites.

One of the best examples of adjacent DTV stations broadcasting beside each other at huge power levels is in Seattle. All on one street (Queen Mary Hill) KOMO is on 38, KIRO is on 39, and KING is on 48. You can see how close they are too each other in this video:

http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showpost.php?p=1055871&postcount=91

So, unless stations are sharing the exact same antenna (which would be tuned for certain performance parameters so channels would likely need to be close on the spectrum) the old NTSC problems with co-location and adjacent channel interference are not a worry.

If one or more of the adjacent DTV stations is at a very low ERP then local reception is always iffy, of course. :)

Further to your comment about ATSC operation on adjacent channels, Toronto provides a good example. We get WKBW-DT on 38 and WIVB DT on 39 from Buffalo (960 kW), CFTO DT from the CN Tower on 40 (a few kW), Global analog on 41 (CN Tower, high power), WNED DT 43 from Grand Island (directional antenna pointing away from Toronto toward Buffalo) and 44 Omni (analog, First Canadian Place, Toronto). Except for the channel 42 gap, there would be 7 adjacents in a row.

Lower in the band are WNLO DT 23 (Grand Island, 1 Megawatt) CBLFT DT 24(CN Tower), CBLFT TV 25, (CN Tower analog), and WNYB DT 26 (Jamestown, NY). The last station is farther away than the Buffalo stations but can be received here in some locations. If you go east to the Oshawa area, CHEX has a low power repeater on 22. With a rotor in the Oshawa area you can get all the stations except WNYB.

WCFE has replaced Classic Arts Showcase on 57.3 with PBS World as of a few days ago.

Browsing through their schedule, I see WCFE is using Classic Arts Showcase as overnight filler on their main channel (57.1).

Classic Arts Showcase has been on WCFE-DT (57.1) overnight for years.

Just noticed that CBMT-DT has no programming info in its PSIP data stream. It's the same on a Toshiba TV set and on my Hauppauge 950Q.

Further to something first brought up about a year ago, This TV on subchannel 5.2 of WPTZ-DT is still showing the program schedule of the main channel.

yep

cbmt: many weeks like that
wptz: always been like that....that a pity for wptz, went in Maine recently, and the NBC station from Boston had a This tv sub channel too, and the PSIP was correct...

by the way, downbeat, are you living in Montreal or Calgary ?? if you are in MTL, please change your location, it's confusing a bit:D

We are getting closer: the transitional DT antennas for CBFT and CBMT have now been installed on the Mont-Royal tower, below the upper platform, at 260m HAAT (same location as CBMT-TV antenna). They are clearly visible on the south-west and on the north-east corners of the tower, for a total of 4 new antennas. However, they cannot be used until radiation measurements have been collected so IC can lift the moratorium on new broadcast services from the tower.

The post-transitional antenna is located at the upper platform, currently transmitting analog signals for CKMI, CIVM and CFJP.

Are CBFT-DT and CBMT-DT the vertical towers on the bottom right of the first picture in this post?

No, the transitional DT antennas are mounted directly on the main tower (half way down from the upper platform). The antennas are vertical white sticks, similar to the ones pointed out by you.

Not surprising, but I've noticed CJNT Montreal is carrying programs that are also being shown on sister station CHCH Hamilton. Most notably:
• Sportsline (7 p.m. weeknights)
• Nightline (11:30 p.m. weeknights)
• Jimmy Kimmel (12 a.m. weeknights)
• 60 Minutes (7 p.m. Sundays) and the rest of CHCH's Sunday night prime-time schedule

It's also showing other ABC shows like 20/20. Always nice to have options for when abc22 comes in weak.

Except CJNT is always extrremely weak itself.
