EdT: GAH? Global on over the air HD? No way, I did a scan, nothing. Did you mean over Videotron/Bell?

I write to WPTZ (5.X) and CIVM (17.1) yesterday about TV guide. I have one week guide for all channel excepte those two (using Champlain ZIP code in my DTVPal DRV). Few weeks ago, when it was -20C outside, I was able to catch CBMT (6.1) and CFJP (35.1). I don't remember for CBMT but CFJP guide didn't work. Even time was wrong for this station.

Maybe I'm missing something, but which local channels have guide info?

The only local channel I get with guide info is 17.1, and that's because it's digital.
All my other local stations are analogue only, and I thought in Montreal we didn't have guide info for the analogue stations? :o
I guess other areas have already started the digital switch, but surely not all local channels have guide data over the air.
You should be getting EPG Data on CBMT-HD 6.1 (ch20) and CBFT-DT 2.1 (ch19) as well.

Yeah, CFJP has been off for over a month. Last time I saw any EPG data from them was back in November.
CBMT's EPG is working (7days).

I was having weirdness with WPTZ. I was getting the guide info for 5.1 on 5.2, with no info on 5.1 itself, which meant no EPG data for 5.2 'This!' channel. 5.2 mostly plays movies, so it's a pain not to know which movie is playing. :(

The guide on WPTZ-DT (5.1) is okay. But the (5.2) is really a pain. Not knowing what movies are coming up is not okay. I usually end up going to either www.this.tv or www.thistv.com to get the program list. Then plan out which ones I'll watch and which I'll record.

Blackburst, you have one week guide for WPTZ-DT (5.1)? If yes, on witch equipment you have this and witch setting (ZIP code)?

It looks like there is a change on one of the sub-channels over at WCFE-DT.
I spotted mhz. Worldview on 57.3
I guess ThinkBright has been removed!
Which is kinda stupid since 57.2 is a duplicate of 57.1 only in SD. They can still run ThinkBright on 57.2!

Ref.post #1587

I will check out my Tivax digital box later tonight to see how far the WPTZ-DT 5.1 TV listings go.

Hello Blackburst,

I also have a Tivax box on my old CRT TV. This unit only display the more limited program information (typically 8-24 hours worth) offered by broadcasters via PSIP. But my DTVPal DVR have a 8 days guide.

"The DTVPal DVR features an electronic program guide (EPG) with up to 8-days of program information when TVGuide On Screen (TVGOS) is available. TVGOS is distributed by many CBS affiliates across the country, but is not available in all markets."

All channels on this unit have 8 days guide except WPTZ (5.X) and CIVM (17.1) that have only arround one day.

Yes, weird things going on at WCFE. When I get home, 57.2 and 57.3 was the same.

I got a good and a bad new from WPTZ. The good new is that they will broadcast a guide for 5.2 via PSIP. It's look like PSIP is mandated by the FCC. They are waiting for better weather because they need to do some work at the tower site. The bad new is that they won't maintain TVGOS. They didn't say exactly that but this is what I can read beetween the lines. From what they said, only 162 stations in the country maintain TVGOS, none of which are NBC affiliates.

Here's a link to a release from WCFE (http://mountainlake.org/about/press-room/mountain-lake-pbs-launches-as-26th-mhz-worldview-affiliate.html), dated Jan. 8, explaining the changes to their programming. In short, WCFE has ditched Thinkbright for something called MHZ Worldview (http://www.mhznetworks.org/mhzworldview/) by MHZ Networks. It's a relay of English TV news programming from overseas.
Mountain Lake's channel info page also lists the following at the bottom:

MOUNTAIN LAKE PBS ALSO BROADCASTS:
Digital Channel 57.1 airing High Definition (HD) programs
Digital Channel 57.2 airing MHz Network
Digital Channel 57.3 airing Classic Arts Showcase

So it looks like the programming duplication between 57.1 and 57.2 will end soon, if it hasn't stopped already.

The changes to WCFE-DT (RF 38), took place last week-end.

WCFE-DT
57.1 - WCFE-HD (PBS) 1080i
57.2 - WCFE-DT (Mhz Worldview) 480i
57.3 - WCFE-DT (Classic Arts Showcase) 480i

I would be curious to know why they dropped ThinkBright. This was a service that seemed to focus on New York state. And was being offered by about six PBS stations in NY state.

Mhz Worldview seems interesting. Almost like a multilingual station at times with English sub-titles, as well as English news packages from France 24, RT (Russian TV), Al-Jezira English, stuff from India etc. Worth seeing what interest this will create for Montreal viewers.

Classic Arts Showcase is okay. As a program block. But as a 24hrs service. Not so sure. ThinkBright might have been a better service since it had PBS children's shows, NY state based news talk shows, PBS documentaries etc.

Either way, I think this is an improvement for WCFE-DT.

Think Bright lost big last fall when Susan Arbretter left New York Now.

I used to like Think Bright a lot last year. The programming went downhill a bit after that.

But it was still good. This Arts channel is not my cup of tea.

I'm from Montreal and am definitely interested in MHz Worldview. Is anyone getting accurate Schedules Direct data for this channel yet? I just filled out a form on their site telling them to update their lineup...

I've found that since they don't have a big team at SD they might not be able to get to your ticket right away, but they'll email you when it has been handled.

I got this response about Think Bright 57-3 Form WCFE:

Unfortunately Thinkbright will no longer be broadcast (not our decision). We replaced it with a great channel with international programming called MHz Worldwide. I hope you enjoy the variety it has to offer. Thanks for your interest.

The older I get, the more I appreciate PBS and its quality programming....

As for Global and CTV Montreal, anyone have any ideas when these channels with be digitally available? Ive emailed them both and no response after 4 days..

Probably you'll get the automated response like the other broadcasters stating that they already started their HD programming (on cable thought), but they don't have the money to invest in a temporary tower with a temporary emitter that would not be, in the end, the final frequency they would broadcast onto, so they will prefer to flash-cut to digital in 2011. It's hilarious that Télé-Québec has such money, but not CTV nor Global.

It doesn't really matter if CFCF and CKMI managed to get a ATSC transmitter up before Sept. 2011. As long as the situation on Mont-Royal doesn't get resolved, half the island would still be in the dark.

Does anybody have any update status with the Mont-Royal work?

What is "the situation" on Mont Royal, preventing the conversion to ATSC transmitters?
