Adjacent-channel interference isn't much of an issue with DTV. The problem was more about northern Vermont's proximity to CKTM Trois-Rivières, QC and CJOH Ottawa, ON. The spacing used to be perfect with 13 being used in Ottawa, Trois-Rivières and Albany, NY, but the stupid FCC agreed to stick WVNY on 13 right smack in the middle of them, so everyone is now stuck with a lower power.

I had read somewhere that WVNY-DT was suppose to have been assigned to Channel 16. But, 13 was requested. And now as FOXFAN indicates, we are all stuck in this situation. Very dumb move.

Since the FCC is allowing channels to move due to reception problems. Perhaps this is the time to restart e-mailing WVNY telling them that we are still having problems receiving their signal. They need to make the request to the FCC. Or else, this situation will remain as is.

Yes they were originally allocated 16. That channel is still available in the area if they want it. Channels 33 and 44 have also been cleared thanks to the transition.

I have an Artec T3AP-LL digital converter box that detects 5.1 but not 5.2 from WPTZ in Vermont. I also have a Sansonic FT-300A and a Sunkey SK-801ATSC that detect both 5.1 and 5.2.

The Artec occasionally displays a large black box which covers 2/3 of the screen and displays URLs, which remains even if I change channels until I turn the Artec off and on again. This is most likely to occur on WETK Vermont PBS but has also occurred on other channels.

What's the latest news on CBMT-DT moving to the mountain? Every year I keep hearing "next summer". Now summer 2009 has passed and they're still not there. Are they just going to wait until August 2011 now?

I asked the same question over on the French forum. Apparently the digital infrastructure at the Mount Royal antenna site will be ready sometime in 2010. The quote was something like "within the next year".

The picture at WGMU and W52CD is frozen since Saturday night.

I get the original CH39 WGMU after 8:00 pm on some evening and the picture is frozen there too.

I guess it's back to old days of W52CD when you had a constant picture saying Alarm mode.

Yes, or later (based on what I was told by CBMT source).

Does anybody know how WFFF gets its feed of the CW? I have noticed that image quality is really poor and at times appears analog, with snowy artifacts. Even though the CW is carried as a secondary subchannel on WFFF, we should see decent quality. Case in point: This, secondary channel on WPTZ.

I know what you mean about WFFF-DT 44.2
The CW image is awful. I think it has more to do with WFFF-DT not presenting a 720x480 image. It's something weird, like 575 x 480. I can't really remember the exact number. I don't know what's up with that over at WFFF-DT.

They should be presenting it in 480p wide. That way we can get a full wide screen, but in 480p. I don't see why not. If WCAX-DT can present their news/weather channel (3.2) in 480i wide, why can't WFFF-DT give us The CW in the same way.

intravino, on which channel do you receive WGMU? Are you able to pick up their digital signal? I guess nobody in Montreal gets this station.

If they're not going to be on Mount Royal any time soon can they at least increase to full power?

They don't have a digital signal yet. And yes some people in Montreal can get it from their channel 52 St. Albans repeater.

The problems with WGMU-TV 39 (Burlington,VT) seems to continue. I receive their repeater from St-Albans,VT on Channel 52. For a week or so it only had a green screen on. Yesterday it was back to airing RTV (RetroTV) programs. And, again, those programs were out of sync. Today, they have a slide show on with the station ID.

Also, the retransmitter from St-Albans,VT (W52CD-LP) can be received in certain areas in Montreal. The station is still transmitting in analog since it's not a full power station.

CBC/Radio-Canada's current power levels for their Montreal stations are probably limited by the temporary nature of the equipment at the top of their building (e.g. low power transmitter; low- to moderate-gain antenna.)
Lower power from a high antenna is better than higher power from a low antenna. That's why I'd be happier to see CBC spending their resources properly setting up their Mount Royal site and instead of diverting time and money to upgrade their mediocre temporary transmission site.
At least when the digital transition is through, they'll have a backup site -- something that isn't common in Canada.

Black is right, WGMU is having problems, big ones.

W52CD to go digital, I would not hold my breath. I also get the main channel WGMU analogue 39 late at night, they have the same problems.

I was so frustrated with this situation that I moved back my CM 4228 to the original position pointed at Mt. Mansfield. I pointed my cm 4228 in August to get a better reception of ch 52 but now I was having pixelization for WPTZ and WFFF sometimes because the 4228 was pointed more west for W52CD.

If they get their act together ; fix the defective amplifier at W52CD, replace their feed receiver and the hope they go digital in the near future. I will get an other UHF antenna pointed at them. I personally like the RTV programming.

There are some many rumors, they asks for so many license modifications at the FCC. Increase their output at W49BI Ellenburgh NY, move the main transmitter, boost their power output here and there.

They could even go under, I don't hope so but you never know.

The license modifications were requested under previous ownership (Equity Media). They were only bought by Convergence last summer, so it makes sense for them to have technical difficulties early on.

By the email conversations I had with them and the press releases on the net, they look more interested in the 107.1 FM WNMR venture then in the WGMU/WNMN TV.

Hi,

WPTZ has a new sub-channel 5.2. It is This Network. The channel seems to broadcast old MGM movies and potentially series according to Wikipedia. It is a big improvement from WeatherPlus. Please see the links:

Since we're getting new information on the new WPTZ 5.2 I have my question about puling it in.

My apologies as my tuner doesn't have a signal strength meter. When I do my scan on channel 14, I get 2 digital channels:

5.1 WPTZ-HD
5.2 WPTZ-WX

However the feed that I am getting on 5.2 is a 1080i feed which seems to be a clone of the programming on 5.1.

I've had my setup since June, and 5.2 has always been a duplicate feed. It's never shown up as either the WeatherPlus as it was, or this new ThisTV.

Anyone have any insight on my situation? Thank you
