3.1 HD @ ch. 22 is stronger than before too (90% for me anyways)!

Aflipz
2009-02-18, 02:27 AM
yeah 100% here

now, I am getting 23; DTV 18-1 coming in at intermittent lock (WPBS), the other one (18, mapped to 20-1) is at 100%

As much as I like PBS, no-one on earth needs so many of them!

WCAX are suppose to be at 50%...I get it at 100% so when they will be at 100% I will probably be able to get a lock with an indoor antenna in the basement!

By the way there's some kind of tropo so the very good result are mostly because of that.

WCAX is coming strong for me 70-80% CM 7000, 45 % sharp aquos
WFFF is back, but not very strong 40% 35%
WETK no lock this morning !
WNPI coming in at 15 % no lock
CBOT DT 25 in and out 25-40%
WCFE weak 15-20 %

Mille: Are you sure your antenna is well align? Your getting some signal from wnpi and cbot I would guess that your antenna is not align properly.

WVTB-DT 18 (20-x) is one of Vermont Public Television's PBS stations. Its four sub-channels should be broadcasting exactly what WETK-DT 32 (33-x) is broadcasting. There's a coverage map of all VPT stations here (http://www.vpt.org/about/coverage.html), though I'm not sure whether that's s for their analog or their digital transmissions.

Looks like most of the people here are in the Montréal area, where it doesn't come up so much, but Vermont is so hilly that an effective strategy for getting a signal onto hillside and valley floors is to broadcast with overlapping footprints -- and this is what VPT does. It's not uncommon, in fact, to choose to watch a much further-away station that you have clear line-of-sight to rather than your next-door station whose signal is coming through 100 meters of granite.

Anyway, the towers are on peaks, of course, and once the signals clear the Vermont mountains, they can travel relatively unobstructed to Montréal.

As for why you're getting WVTB-DT now when you weren't before, though, I'm not sure. TVFool doesn't imply that WVTB-DT's power was supposed to go up after the cut-over, but I suppose it's possible....

I just listened to the announcement made by WVNY. "We are broadcasting from the top of Mt. Mansfield on channel 22 at an ERP of 1 million watts. Starting now you can only receive us on our digital channel (they should have added broadcasting on channel 13 at less than 1% power under 10,000 watts).

One thing I would mention is that once WVNY went off the air, there was snow but a faint audio signal in French was coming through (likely cross-channel interference from CBFT, CFTM, CIVM or CFJP analog). I hope it won't cause dropouts on WCAX-DT (although it's coming in at 92 on the south shore).

I did a rescan this morning. Reception of WCAX is definetely better, I now receive it at 90% instead of 55% when they were on 53.

No sign of improvement for WVNY, same as before, very marginal for me at 45%-47%, on the threshold of locking for my tv.

I have read somewhere that WVNY will be making adjustments to their signal imprint as they are expecting phone calls from people who won't be able to receive their digital signal in some localities in Vermont and NY. I hope the adjustment will not make things worse for Montreal.

I once got WCAX in Ottawa (on channel 53). Was getting it in analog every once in a while along with WPTZ.

Gone are those days...

Plus, for WCAX, we have CBOFT on channel 22 until 2011 (it will revert to channel 9).

gmd: you might want to rescan for WCAX from Ottawa, who knows. It's so darn strong now (see my results in the forum below), of course point your antenna properly at Mount Mansfield first. But yeah, all channels are back up! WCAX is suppose to be half power, but I've got it so strong!

Don't forget folks, reception results go in here http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=51210&page=72 (right mods?)

This thread is for "oh crap, the station went down...is it down for you?" type messages.

I did scan this morning, and ABC 0% as always, cbs is 100%.
Are they keeping 3.1 or they moving to 22.1 because I am getting
CBS on 3.1 but when I type 22 it goes to 3.1
If ABC is on low power now there is no chance to get it.
I found this on the abc web site

i must be the exception to the rule then, i was getting 80% on dt53 when it was at 10% Power and dt22 i only get about 30% now and barley locks, and its supposed to be stronger...

there must be something wrong with your aiming direction or antenna elements, what kind of antenna do you have?

my reception of WCAX is now nearly 90% and they are supposed to be currently only at half power, next week they will be at full power according to FraserR

I did a rescan this morning...here are my results after the last nights changes.

13 - WVNY-DT (no change, still no picture lock)
14 - WPTZ-DT (same signal strength)
22 - WCAX-DT (coming in much stronger, almost an 11% increase)
23- WNPI-DT (same as usual, no picture lock)
32 - WETK-DT (same signal strength)
38 - WCFE-DT (same as usual)
43 - WFFF-DT (same as usual)

19 - CBFT-DT (same as usual, nothing)
20 - CBMT-DT (same as usual, nothing)
27 - CIVM-DT (same as usual, no picture lock)
42 - CFJP-DT (same as usual, nothing)

Also a few side notes...

I'm getting something on channel 49 analogue. Some french audio, and a very messy image, PBS logo, what the frak is this, no idea. I know that there is a TQS affiliate Channel 49 in the Ottawa/Hull area, but the PBS logo? No idea.

I cannot receive the nite lite service from WCAX-TV 3 & WPTZ-TV 5, but I can get the WETK-TV 33 service. Looks very stupid. Also, what is it with the forced Spanish info. English stations should not be forced to carry spanish. None English language statiions should be forced to carry English info along with their other language. It would make more sense for New England area stations to offer French info in order to help their viewers. Vt, NH, Maine, upstate NY are not Puerto Rico.

Also, how long will the nite lite services be offered in the Burlington-Plattsburgh market. 30 days? 60 days? What a waste of electricity.

One last thing....
WCWF-DT 40 in Saranac Lake, NY is now listed as running RTN programming. This info is located at the RTN website. And WCWF is listed under Vermont stations on the site. Not NY?

Blackburst, I am so surprise that you cannot catch any Montreal station and you are in Montreal!

CIVM Tele-Quebec is the strongest. I can catch it with a simple paper clip from Laval!
