: OTA Station Status: Montréal, QC, Northern NY & VT
kool_105 2009-02-13, 05:05 PM which will deliver more signal than OTA 53 did at full powerinteresting, I'm getting the exact same high Signal strength with digital 53@10% as it was at 100% so i hope when its at 22 its just as high. good luck with all the transition stuff.
foxfan 2009-02-13, 07:15 PM Well that's good to hear. Only issue is why is WPTZ nightlighting on channel 5 for 2 months (I thought only ONE station had to do it)? They'll be broadcasting to the wrong people (west of the Adirondacks who will lose service regardless of the transition date). Anyone else in range of Mt. Mansfield will be getting all the info they need from channel 3.
mille 2009-02-14, 08:16 AM WPTZ 14 is back at 100% this morning :)
WCAX 53 still at 0 to15 % ...not enough for a lock ..
WETK 32 at 70 %
WFFF 43 0%
WVNY 13 0% as usual
WCFE 38 30 - 50%
patook 2009-02-14, 01:48 PM Since Last night (Friday 13th), WVNY is broadcasting on 22.2 the same programming as 22.1 but only in SD of course! Is this a prelude to a new channel coming soon? I'd love to see RTN or ThisTV (MGM) on 22.2 but no more weather channels please!

Likely a 4:3 version of their channel to be used by analog cable since they won't have an analog broadcast for them to use. This way they can choose between letter box and centre cut on a per program basis.
That would be consistent with the authorization given by the CRTC that cable and satellite distributors may distribute SD versions of the 4+1 US channels. In fact, I suspect that all DT channeles will include an SD version for cable and satellite as well as for those with converter boxes and 4x3 TV sets. This way, transition to HD can be spread over 250 years. Isn't that great ?
patook 2009-02-15, 11:06 AM What a waste of bandwith! Such a shame...they could so much more with it!
kk77xm 2009-02-15, 04:46 PM :confused:It seems there are many viewers got the same problems as me on ABC22 DTV signal. I post some mails from ABC22 to me. You can write to them to the suggestions. It seems that many viewers have been experiencing digital signal problems due to an interference with channel 12 (a Canadian channel). Be sure that you are using a VHF antenna to try to pick up WVNY as that is the signal type that we are broadcasting with.
If even after using that compatible antenna you’re still having a problem, there is hope that some of the aforementioned interferences with channel 12 will clear up once channel 12 signs off.
Please let us know what the results are once channel 12 has signed off; we’ll be curious to see which of our viewers were affected.
Thank you!

As I said before I am not sure ANY indoor vhf antenna would pull in Abc in Motreal. If you can use an outdoor antenna I would recommend a cut VHF channel 13 yagi antenna. It might work inside if your orientation is such that you could aim it toward Mt Mansfield {I guess southeast?} without going through a building.

Dear Sir,
Every DTV station from the USA that you do get is a UHF frequency station, unfortunately ABC22 dtv was assigned a VHF frequency by the FCC. This was for reasons of protection of Canadian channel frequencies. If you can receive us and I am not saying that you will you will need a better antenna, one which receives VHF frequencies better. Ask to return your antenna, or purchase a VHF ONLY antenna and hook it up with a switch which will let you switch it in when you wish to watch ABC22 and then switch it back to the other antenna for ALL the other stations.
Hopefully these suggestions will help, if not feel free to call me @ 802 660 9333 ext123 for more ideas.
Sincerely
ABC22 engineering

kool_105 2009-02-16, 12:07 AM dt53 WCAX just disappeared for me, no sig at all, king of queens was about to start, then it went to 0 sig, wonder what happened....maybe something to do with transition?
edit: 8am its now back, wonder what happened....
Yuprules 2009-02-16, 10:26 AM Yes, all stations are going up and down like an elevator. It will be like this for WCAX for the next week at least. I believe WCAX is at 10% power still, then will switch to 50% as of February 17th, then back to 100% by March 1st.
Blackburst 2009-02-16, 12:47 PM The DTV website has been updated
In the process, you can now input a Zip Code, and locate what stations can be receivable in your area.
The truly great news is that you can enter Canadian data.
I have enter Canadain Postal codes and gotten info. You can also enter Canadian cities, and provinces in case you don't know your Postal code.
You will get color coded results letting you know what the signal strenght should be in your area.

mr_raider 2009-02-16, 12:52 PM Interesting. It says wfff at -59dB and WVNY at -65. I can receive fox with no issues, looks like 6 dB makes a difference!
hungt1999 2009-02-16, 01:00 PM WVNY-DT will not increase power after the transition.
According to WVNY staff, interference from the very strong CFCF12 is giving us problems getting WVNY-DT on VHF 13 in the Montreal area.
Did anyone try some filter of any kind to suppress or attenuate VHF 12? I was reading one could make a quarter wavelength stub filter from a piece of coax cable.
Also, there was some occasions in the past when CFCF12 was shut down for maintenance, did your reception of WVNY-DT improve when CFCF12 was down?
On the second to last page of the following document from Industry Canada, it shows how to make yourself a filter stub.
Remember, if you are using a preamp, the filter stub must go before the preamp, i.e. near the antenna, not like shown on the picture below.
I will be trying this myself shorthly to filter out CFCF 12 on 204-210 MHz
A few other caveats:
- the stub will also filter out about plus and minus 10% around the frequency you are trying to kill
- it will also kill the odd harmonics of that frequency. For example if you are trying to kill CFCF 12 on 210 Mhz, it will also kill frequencies of 3x210 Mhz and 5x210 Mhz (WCFE)

stampeder 2009-02-16, 01:13 PM Blackburst are those maps different than the marketing maps that came out earlier? http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showpost.php?p=860784&postcount=847
Blackburst 2009-02-16, 02:16 PM don't know.
But this one is using google maps. And if you move the pointer around from street to street (at least in the Montreal area) the reception data changes. Which means they must be taking into consideration terrian.
Also, there was some occasions in the past when CFCF12 was shut down for maintenance, did your reception of WVNY-DT improve when CFCF12 was down?
No I checked that last year and the reception did not improve, not even 1%.
By the way i'm using a 10y13s and I get WVNY stable at 85%.
stampeder 2009-02-16, 02:35 PM I just checked myself and they are different. :) Neat tool, but I think TVFool still rules.
hungt1999 2009-02-16, 02:39 PM No I checked that last year and the reception did not improve, not even 1%.

Kro, you get WVNY at 85% great!
I don't remember if your set-up is in the attic or outside?
Did you get the 10y13s from Raybel? I am waiting for them to re-stock.
