When is CBC/SRC moving to the mountain? Is there a target date?

craigstar, you could ask Marc (CBC guy) if he's heard anything about it:

Read this in the reception thread:
Fox might be possible with a better antenna, or wait for spring when fox will be full power, and should come in similar to the others.
That got me thinking, the stations that are transmitting now at full power - will they continue to transmit at the same power after 2009? That is, once the analog stations are taken down, will they be able to (or will they even want to) increase power to the digital stations further? Anyone have any ideas?

in my case, CFCF 12 analog affiliate in Montreal is soooo strong that i can't get channel 13 ABC affiliate in Vermont on some tuners. The sooner they remove 12 from the air the better!!!! They are suppose to relocate at 21 in the digital realm.

If WPTZ, WCAX and VETV are at full power, this will be a cakewalk. Fox (WFFF) must have done something to their site as they are now consistently lockable and coming in just below 70% (EVU 9200).

WCFE is hitting me at 91%.

This with a 4 bay bowtie in Ste.Dorothee / Laval. It seems that they may have made a major change at the Mt Mansfield site... I do not know what else would have changed the signal levels that appreciably.

I locked onto Fox tonight for the first time ever at 65+%. I also picked up Digital 18, WPBS for the first time ever. NBC and CBS were at 85+% then all of a sudden I lost the lock on Fox and NBC/CBS was eratic between 60-88%

Normally CBS is at 70-72% and NBC 60-68%. VPT was at 49% with no lock unless I rotated my antenna, but that would cause me to lose NBC/CBS. WPBS was never there before and Fox was always 0-49% with no lock.

What's going on? Why all of a sudden am I getting much better reception? And is Fox at full power? Or were they for a bit tonight?

See the DXing and Tropospheric Skip thread for an explanation. Its the crazy weather in the east, with a huge low pressure system from the U.S. being chased by a huge high pressure system from the Arctic.

Thursday night I also picked up Ottawa CBC English abd CBC French digital from Ottawa by turning the 4 bay bowtie.... Also 18 WNPI... but totally lost WCAX and WPTZ... but had FOX at over 70%. Bizarre.

When is CBC/SRC moving to the mountain? Is there a target date?I got this response from CBC:We appreciate your interest in over the air high definition television service
for the Montreal area.

CBC engineers have encountered technical issues that have delayed the relocation
of the Montreal high definition transmitter from the main CBC building in the
city to the tower site at Mount Royal. CBC is now
hoping to undertake this installation project over the summer of 2007. This time
frame is subject to change. There are no plans for additional repeater
facilities in Montreal.

Do you know if there are any plans for any Montreal or near-Montreal stations to use VHF for digital.

Here is the list of present and future Quebec stations:

http://www.user.dccnet.com/jonleblanc/Canada_TV_Stations/QC.html

It looks like all the Montreal Digital OTA stations will be UHF.

Do you know if there are any plans for any Montreal or near-Montreal stations to use VHF for digital.

CFTM (TVA) said it wants to voluntarily shut-off their analog signal on channel 10 and use it for full-power digital. They have a permit for low-power digital on channel 59 but I don't know if they're still planning on using it.

CTV would rather shut off all OTA according to their request to the CRTC, so we might see someone pick up channel 12 in Montreal if CFCF is stupid enough to give it up.

To the question Is TVA has plan to broadcast in HD in a near future on Channel 59 DT the answer from TVA was that they actively working on it.

WVNY (ABC) prematurely gave up channel 22 to WCAX (CBS). They are now stuck on 13.

The only solution would be to either change to channel 33 or 44 in 2009, or try to convince VPT to trade channel 32 in exchange for channel 13 (wouldn't bother us as we can get PBS from WCFE anyway).

Well, that reply pretty much states that they are upgrading their equipment to record/broadcast in HD. Last I checked with them, it was underway but the final objective was to be able to give HD signal to CABLE and SATELLITE providers but I have yet to hear anything about OTA HD from TVA.

Maybe it was somewhere else in the reply you have received...

That's bizarre. 'cause the other night, CBOT-DT had the Sens in 480p while CBLT-DT had the Leafs in HD. Maybe they think people in Ottawa hate Toronto more than people in Montréal.

Saturday night, CBOT-DT had the Habs/Leafs game. CBOT-TV had the Senators game. Maybe they showed the HD game from Montréal to offer a second game to those with HD? (lots of Leafs and Habs fan around)

That was the complete reply...I hope they match the answer with the question. Maybe someone could e-mail the question again relations.auditoire@tva.ca . The answer came back pretty quickly (1 day).

There's two possibility:
1:They did not answer proprly to the question and they want to give HD signal to CABLE and SATELLITE only.

2: The answer is OK because To give HD signal to CABLE and SATELLITE they have to broadcast it. For that I don't know the RULES of the CRTC. I hope for this one:) .

At the same question TQS did not answer and Tele-quebec have no plan.

From what I gathered in the past, TVA has already some studios ready for HD ("Du côté de TVA, deux studios sont déjà prêts.", Feb 2006, http://www.cyberpresse.ca/article/20060212/CPARTS/602120558/1017/CPARTS) and their latest reply (Nov 2006) was saying that they are currently testing their equipment to deliver an upscaled feed (1080i) of their current shows to cable and satellite providers at this time but they have always avoided answering me directly regardint my OTA questions (boo!). They also stated that «some» real HD content may be available next fall but winter was a more realistic goal/deadline.

I have not heard much from TQS either aside from the «We are currently evaluating the situation» and them getting their (temporary?) license.

Télé-Québec, nothing but, honestly, I would be much happier with a CTV-HD feed in Montreal than Télé-Québec in HD! :)
