I wrote an email to Télé-Québec and got an answer from a very reliable source that requested not to be disclosed stating that if all goes well, their HD broadcast should start January 19th. I bet that Yagi's pictures posted in the french (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=54758) thread that I mentionned in the request might have add credibility to the suspense and hit the right person.

Terrific pictures! These were posted by Yagi (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/member.php?u=55161) and are from TeleQuebec's installation of their ATSC DTV OTA broadcast antenna on top of the Olympic Stadium tower in Montreal.

It's a data service to provide tuner firmware downloads. Look back in this thread for links to an explanation.

FYI...

Here is a link to FCC coverage maps. Just locate the Burlington - Plattsburgh link on the page, and you will have contour maps for all the stations within that market.

http://www.fcc.gov/dtv/markets/

This is an excellent document. I suggest the link be added to all the other various threads dealing with reception of US stations.

Actually there is a big problem with those maps:

http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showpost.php?p=850426&postcount=20

Their purpose is not for OTA reception but rather for Marketers. :)

Yagi/Djipi,

Nice pics - thanks for sharing.

at a cost of ~ $1.5B for "le Stade Olympique Tower", this must be considered one of the World's most expensive broadcast installations ;)!

Not sure where to post this, i emailed CTV earlier today (19 jan 09) to see when they wanted to broadcast digital and they cant tell. (I got an answer almost right away).

----

This decision will be made by the CTV Network for all its affiliates, and publicized at that time. At the moment, no timeline has been established.

Sorry I could not be of more help; thank you for your interest.

Anybody know if Tele Quebec's ATSC transmitter is online yet? I am wondering because I just did a scan and found nothing new. It says in the post I link to below that they were supposed to go online today if everything went well (guess it didn't)

http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?p=863854

I should pretty much have LOS to it from my roof, I hope that it's just not on the air yet vs obstructed....

I wonder if maybe they will share that transmitter with other networks?

Thanks,

I am surprised to see so little buzz about this in this section even if it is just one small french tv station.

I checked in google earth, you can see altitudes above sea level of the ground and the top landmark buildings such as Radio Canada and the olympic stadium. The heights are pretty accurate. I have LOS on stadium for certain but not even close on radio can. (no surprise, my signal meter has been telling me that for a year now)

The tip of the O.S. tower is 202M above sea level add to that the antenna mast, the top of the Radio Canada building is 100M, add their mast; wouldn't they be able to reach a much broader audience if they (radio can, cbc, tqs and hopefully soon global) also used the Stadium pending permission to install their gear on Mt Royal?

As of less than an hour ago the Industry Canada database still shows channel 27 in Montreal as AP (approved) instead of OP (operational).

Stampeder, I believe that the downloadable databases are only updated once a week, on Fridays. Do you have a more tiemly source than the web page?
