hungt1999,

you must be right

perhaps there's somekind of interferences coming from something in the Montreal region

that's weird , no channel 53 yesterday, neither this morning

NBC coming as always at 66 %

Saint Laurent here (if you are responding to this odd CBS no signal/low signal put your location please).

CBS WCAX HD DEAD again.

Fox coming in normal (barely watchable, but that's normal)
NBC coming in normal (80% ish)
PBS coming in normal (60% ish)
CBS is having problems or something is affecting the WCAX channel only. Anyone got a direct e-mail link to ask em what's going on?

Maybe someone put up a huge metal shield between here and Montreal (but not Deux-Montagnes...LOL)

CBS is having problems or something is affecting the WCAX channel only.I am in Ste-Rose Laval. Still no CBS 3.1 for a third consecutive day. Today it is raining but yesterday was sunny. So it is more than environmental.

But in Post #518 he is getting CBS 3.1 at 100% and only minor fluctuations since then so I do not believe there is anything wrong at the station's end.

Our digital transmitter at ch 3.1 WCAX DTV is down at half power for last few days, we are working on fixing it, we expect to be back at full power soon. Good to know you are up there watching, thanks for your patience while we figure this problem out.

Thanks FraserR!!! Just a bit more info to your post from who sent that e-mail.

I had e-mailed WCAX also using an e-mail address for their transmission contact, and got a very prompt reply (thanks WCAX, what service!).We had a major failure in a high voltage power supply on Monday. The transmitter is operating at half power.
We are working to restore full power as soon as possible.

Transmitter Supervisor
WCAX TV No need to start messing with your antennas folks, hang in there...they are trying to fix it.

At least the new season of TV hasn't started yet, so I'd rather it fail now then during CSI! :) Surprising how you can't get a peep out of local Montreal channels about OTA HD, but I got a response in UNDER 2 hours from the transmitter supervisor of a U.S station when I'm are in Canada. Go figure :) Three cheers for WCAX!

f1champ, you picked a BAD time to try and nab WCAX / CBS (3-1) as they are having a problem right now.

This isn't the exact forum for Windows Media Center, but here's a quick tip for ya before the forum gods come down on me :).

Don't set your Windows Media Center to Canada, set it to a U.S. zip near Montreal. Such as Plattsburgh Ny (just google something in that city to find the zip code). You'll then get ALL proper channel numbers (for some odd reason Fox / WFFF is missing from my Windows Media Center, had to add it manually in the guide). If you require more help, this thread is the right spot for Windows Media center users:

http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=28162

There are other hacks to make your Windows Media Center "Canadian", but that involves editing the registry and such...not for the faint of heart.

Questions for FraserR

Great see somebody from WCAX on the board to help us out when we have problems. I have a couple of questions.

1 - When WCAX-DT moves to Channel 22, will WCAX-DT stop the ATSC remap to 3.1 & 3.2, and start referring to itself as WCAX-DT Channel 22. After all, by then WCAX-TV Channel 3 will no longer exist. The reason I ask this is because it's really confusing telling people who are making the transition to DT reception that there is a difference between a remap and the actual channel the station is broadcasting on.

2 - I know you're the wrong guy to ask this, but, do you know if WVNY-DT 13 & WFFF-DT 43 will do something about their transmiter power and Channel assignment. WVNY-DT is the worst, and WFFF-DT seems to be the second worst when it comes to receiving their signals in Montreal. And both licenses seem to be managed by the same company.

Thanks

NBC 5-1 always had TOO MUCH signal for me, I usually have to turn OFF my LNA (built in amp on tv). As of this writing it has gone down to BARELY working, looks like it is NBC's turn and not CBS (which has returned to normal after their power problem).

The NBC signal has gone from 100% to barely 30% which is LOWER than Fox making it unwatchable. Power problems again, this time NBC? Someone needs to work on the electricity on that mountain :)

Update at 10:22PM, DEAD...I'm getting no signal. Anyone else?

Usually get 50-55 signal strength on 5.1 here in the Plateau... It's below 30 now... what happened? :(

smatts, you must be visiting the area, right? We don't usually get WPTZ in the Vancouver area! :D

Lost CBs 53.1 and PBS 32.1 and NBC 14.1 last evening, in fact before 5 PM

had only 43.1 FOX..

This morning, PBS and CBS came back, but not NBC 5.1

i notice that tropos was strong this mornming from Ottawa CBOT-DT came at 77%
and channel 14 Ottawa analog was in ( with a lot of snow ) so it could be interfering with 14.1 if they broadcasting at low power.
They had power failures in Vermont yesterday because of the high winds of IKE....:o

they have a power failure....C'est correct.
We are currently on our back-up transmitter with about 1/20th the power. It should be fixed soon. In the meantime, you can still see us on good old VHF channel 5.
