Changing to uhf with appropriate power that would be good news. I just checked on the FCC web site and there is no application posted that would confirm this rumor. Last application for wvny-dt is dated 11/14/2007.

As noted earlier in this thread, WVNY was originally supposed to use channel 16 but asked to move to channel 13.

I know their Analog transmitter is 100Kw but I hear their digital one is on top of the CBC building on notre-dame just past the jacques cartier. How powerful is that transmitter? Thanks in advance, this is just to fulfill my curiosity.

Has anybody noticed a drop in signal strength for WCAX-DT 53, WFFF-DT 43, & WPTZ-DT 14. All week-end, their signals seemed much lower than normal. By as much as 20-30%.

At first I thought it was either my antenna, interference from leaves on trees as summer is full on. Even atmospheric interference. But, this would not explain it, as WETK-DT 32 seems to be at it's normal signal strength.

Anybody else notice any changes in their reception of the above mentioned channels.

Same for me
thought it was my antenna , but no....
wetk 32 gone most of the time, same for
wcax 53 and wfff 43
for wptz 14 sometimes it's higher, but often it drops from 67% to 37 %..
tropos ....heat .....?? don't know, and this week, it's suppose to be a good one for troposheric....really don't understand what's going on

The only one that has drop for me is WPTZ wich is normally a strong 100% is now at 80%. But before that (Just after the PSPI "error") the signal would go from 100% to 0% once in a while. Saturday (Or friday) morining it was 0% (Shut down) and since it's back there's no problem but the signal is not has strong. For the other station i'm pretty sure it's due to the Tropo, there's strong tropo this week.

No problems last night.

The Ottawa folks had a similar situation probably caused by odd tropo effects:

Strange things can happen in the summer! ;)

WCFE (PBS) now wishes to “maximize” the post-transition facility ERP to 200 kW.I just noticed a few application changes to the FCC concerning these three PBS stations.

WCFE-DT 38 (Plattsburgh, NY)
WNPI-DT 23 (Norwood,NY)
WPBS-DT 41 (Watertown,NY)

All three are requesting an increase in power output

WCFE-DT (100kw to 200kw)
WNPI-DT (40kw to 60kw)
WPBS-DT (40kw to 59kw)

That should help out people who might be having problems receiving these stations in the south western part of Quebec, and the south eastern part of Ontario. As well as on the US side of the border.

Also, WCFE-DT 38 seems to be testing something the last time I checked. I'm currently receiving 38.4 & 38.5 There is a signal strenght, but no program , nor image.

:p

I also picked up two new DT signals on 38.6 and 38.7 today. Does anybody know what station will be located here; is it WCFE? These two signals show up with a 87% strength, but without any picture.

Other signal locations without any picture include: 14.1 (CFCF), 14.2 (WPTX WX), 70.1 (WNNE DT), 70.3 (WPTZ PR), 70.4 (COLCHES), 70.5 (WPTZ HD), 70.7 (WPTZ WX); and 14.3 (WPTZ) shows up with a picture.

Any comments anybody???

Have you changed anything on your end, or is everything else the same except for these new signals? I'm pretty sure you are correct about 38.x channels being WCFE-DT. There should be nothing on 70.x at all, and I don't know why CFCF shows up with WPTX on 14.x like that... very odd.

NO, I have not changed anything at my end. I think these stations are preparing to move locations, with the exception of CFCF - this is probably just an error.:)

Very odd that 70.x would be used - its not even licensed to anyone anymore so I don't know why they'd even remap to it.

It could just be for testing purposes?

The 70.x remaps had occured about a month ago when WPTZ-DT 14 was doing something. I don't know what. I had them appear as well, but a week later a did a re-scan and they went away.

As for WCFE-DT 38, I did a re-scan today and then the re-map changed again. 38.1 & 38.2 appeared, but no image nor sound. The signal strength is related to WCFE-DT. Meanwhile the rest of their 3 channels appear as 57.1, 57.2 & 57.3
I don't know what they are doing with their re-maps. Perhaps they're testing to see what they will do once the analog shut down occurs. Don't forget channels 52-69 will no longer be used after February 2009 in the US. WCFE-DT will eventually just broadcast on Channel 38. No need to re-map to Channel 57.x etc.

As for CFCF-DT, I have nothing. And as I understand it, CFCF-DT is licensed on Channel 21.

I have written both the local Montreal and Toronto offices to get information concerning their (CTV'S CFCF DT) plans without any reply. Basically, I have stopped watching their programing, which is mostly available on other channels anyways (no digital signal means I choose to watch other channels).

Acording to TSReader the Stream type for the two new programs are
"ISO/IEC 13818-6 type B" I had no idea what this was until I google with this info to find that this type is for Data Broacasting. Not sure what this means for us viewers. It may only be a test.

I found more info this morning http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UpdateTV

WCFE-DT already comes in nice and clear in Ottawa (but not with rabbit ears).
