Going from 100 kW to 450 kW should make a day/night difference. I imagine they were near or at full-power a week or two ago, before their signal disappeared...?

Those of us with summer homes in Vt and NY will be pretty happy with such a decent power increase! And yes to Yagi, I was the one to report WLED RF 48 (PSIP 11-1-2-3) in Longueuil.

I'm pretty sure CBMT was doing some test of their final transmitter last week since I was able to pick them up from 57.9 miles away 1Edge (outside of their official coverage map). Since yesterday I can't pick them up. Two weeks ago I made a Yagi Channel cut 21 to get this channel and I wasn't receiving it, last week I was surprise to see that it was working, pretty stable too, and it is now gone. Only CBMT RF21 was being tested I think, RF19 was still too faint for the tuner to get enough packets, my Yagi RF21 should be able to pick it up also, it's a 12 dBd gain antenna with a low noise PreAmp.

I'm using a KWorld USB tuner with TSReaderLite to scan channels and see signal strength and quality.

Edit: Talked too fast, redid a test after posting; just before posting CBMT was at 15% signal strength and it's now at 75%, they must have flipped back the switch... Or I have a serious reception problem... CBFT is at 55%, my Yagi loose gain rapidly on lower channels and that can be see here... No TEI or Continuity errors in both cases, but that would not take much for RF19 to glitch...

For those curious here are a short screencast of the 4 channels I get from Montreal : http://mageminds.com/MontrealAntenna.swf
I have two home made Yagi channel cut antenna in the attic one for RF12 (VHF) and one for RF21 (UHF), they are joined together using a UVSJ and a CPA19 PreAmp. I took the video of the 4 channels I'm getting with this setup after 1 minute of reception. I didn't show it, but the UHF antenna is also able to get channel 30 from Sherbrooke (82 degree away) with a signal of 75%. According to TVFool I am 57.9 miles away from the transmitting tower of Montreal with 1Edge and I'm in LOS with Sherbrooke at 43.2 miles, yes I have antennas that point at Sherbrooke too (one DBGH and one Yagi), but we're in the Montreal forum and they are boring with 100% signal, but I can say that they get CBS from time to time it's in Vermont (right forum).

Is anyone else having trouble receiving CFCF12 (12.1)? It's been very weak and spotty the past week, and now as of tonight I've lost it completely.

CBC is also pretty bad. I feel like we've been thrown back several months, back when these local channels were on temporary transmitters at low power.

And when is CKMI (Global) supposed to start broadcasting at full power from their final position all the way up the main tower?

It's December already!

OK here. Recently I was getting lock/unlock fluctuations despite a strong signal. Yesterday I raised my antenna higher up the tower, signal is now weaker (65%, 26db S/N, 45% AGC, previously 80/29/42) getting some errors - but no unlock. Antenna is pointing about 100deg. away from Mt.Royal. No problem with CBC either; 60/25/48.

And CKMI went from iffy to my strongest local anglo station.

Hi guys I contacted CEC Holdings / WNMN about their coverage in the Montreal area. This was their reply email:

"thank you for your interest. We expect to have multiple channels on the air by this may and will advise you."

So it sounds like the new WNMN repeater is expected to go live sometime in May 2012.

there are specific threads about this channel, but its not promising...delay after delay:(

i would estimate very doubtful at best

At any rate, they still seems to work on the project of "repeater". And "repeated" interest from potential viewers might be an help of some kind.

More seriously, a station needs interest to get advertisers. It's how it's work anyway

:D ... So let's hope for the best !

This morning SNR was about 20 with no errors.

Right now SNR is about 13 with no picture at all.

Well, it's December 16th and CFTU-29 is still broadcasting in analog.

This is now the third switch-over deadline commitment they've missed (with two official extensions granted). Is the CRTC excluding them from the digital switch-over at this point?

On another note, is CBMT 6.1 going to re-boost their power before the end of the month?

The CFTU-TV situation is explained in the french forum. There are still a LOT of work to do on the University rooftop, including the removal of asbestos structure, relocalisation of the endangered species who don't accept their temporary home, and what else... and the winter season is not helping work conditions.

CFTU-TV 29 was off air on the 15th. So, I kinda expected that meant the digital signal was going to be turned on. No, such luck. The analog signal is back. At this point, I would think it would be better, and easier, if the people running Canal Savoir gave up their license for channel 29 and perhaps work out a deal with one of the other broadcasters to run as a sub-channel. I think striking a deal to rent a sub-channel space with CJNT-DT and appearing as 62.2 Canal Savoir would be rather easy. Of course that would mean getting CRTC approval to hand in their CFTU call sign license. I'm sure CJNT, or any of the other Montreal OTA channels, would be interested to getting into a 5 to 10 year agreement where Canal Savoir would rent space and appear as a sub-channel with a 480i or 480p delivery.

CKMI-DT seems to be off air today. I get zero signal. Does anybody else have the same problem? Anybody know what is going on?

As for CFTU, one look at the picture in the french forum should make things clear. The university tower is wrapped up in scaffolding and they simply can't proceed right now because of that other work.

Does anyone know why CJNT reduced its power? When they first went digital in August I'd always get it at 79%, then over the next two months they gradually decreased their signal to the point that I'd get it anywhere in the 40-60s range. Nothing really changed after that until today, where it's constantly breaking up and dropping to 0%.

I wasn't aware that CJNT applied to reduce ERP or other parameters. My guess is that you're experiencing the typical effects of winter on reception results.

The reception was getting worse before winter though.

CJNT-DT operates at only 4kW ERP, and have since they went digital. They haven't reduced power.
