: OTA Station Status: Montréal, QC, Northern NY & VT
schoenbe 2011-08-27, 10:30 PM CJNT-DT's signal has now stabilized; no more continuity nor TEI errors. The virtual channel number is 62.1. Running a new channel scan should now correctly show this station (it does on my Samsung TV and my Hauppauge and ATI TV tuners).
As with other stations converting to DTV: what a difference in picture quality, compared to the analog signal!
Congratulations Metro14!
ogorek 2011-08-28, 01:05 AM Here in Vaudreuil CJNT no go, not even on and off, nothing. It was also very poor in analog. Global 15.1 is coming in at constant 4 bars, but CJNT nothing.
Blackburst 2011-08-28, 11:00 AM In Cote-des--Neiges, CJNT-DT (62.1 / rf 49) comes in very strong.
CJNT-DT (74%)
CKMI-DT (47%)
CBMT-DT (57%)
CBFT-DT (50%)
CFCF-DT (87%)
CIVM-DT (zero)
CFJP-DT (zero)
WPTZ-DT (64%)
WCAX-DT (70%)
WETK-DT (73%)
WCFE-DT (83%)
WFFF-DT (50%)
WVNY-DT (zero)
Picture lock on my Sharp TV is at 34%
My set-up is a DB8 antenna plus a CM3414.
schoenbe 2011-08-28, 12:52 PM With today's storm moving through the area, it is interesting to notice that the new CJNT-DT (49) signal and CFCF-DT (51) come in much better (errorfree) in the west than CBFT and CKMI (lots of errors). The latter have their antennas located significantly higher and use more power than CJNT and CFCF.
I wonder if the placement of CBFT and CKMI on the candelabra tower, facing north-east and north, respectively, causes these reception problems, with the structure of the tower interfering with proper signal propagation.
antifrogen 2011-08-28, 11:16 PM I heard that CFCF is planning to turn on their new digital transmitter operating at frequency 12 on the night of the 30th to the 31st, just after the news and CFTM will switch the next day so on the 1st of september early morning. That means that for 24h they will be combined in analog and digital in the same antenna it's going to be interesting to see how well it works.
WalterP 2011-08-29, 10:43 AM Channel 35.1 is down this morning. Analog 35 is still on the air so I doubt that they are in the process of switching from digital 42 to 35.
One major plus for me is that I now get a strong signal on WFFF-DT 44.1, for the first time. My close proximity (Plateau) to the CFJP-DT transmitter had me wondering for some time if this was causing my reception problems with WFFF-DT... Now I'm a bit concerned about what will happen to my excellent reception of WVNY-DT 22.1 (digital 13) once CFCF-DT moves from digital 51 to digital 12!
tvlurker 2011-08-29, 11:15 AM 13 should get better, but you may (already) have problems with WCAX on 22 due to CBMT being on 21. (And it may get worse when CBMT goes to 400kW+ from the higher antenna)
Panache70 2011-08-29, 03:16 PM Hello all.
I live in Notre Dame Ile Perrot (on top of the hill) and decided to buy a cheap 2$ antenna at Dollarama and see what I can get in my bedroom using a Sonia Bravia HD TV.
So far, I can get Global, CFCF, Tele-Quebec and CBC all around the 70+ signal range.
If I play with the antenna I can sometimes get Metro 14 and Radio-Canada but the signal is weak.
I do not get V or TVA at all.
Just wondering, should we expect V and TVA in the next week once the deadline arrives? Should Metro 14 and Radio Canada be boosting their signal to be stronger by the end of the week, or does their current transmission area weaken or block the signal to some areas?
I figure for 2$, it would not be bad if I can get all the local Montreal channels...
downbeat 2011-08-29, 04:05 PM • TVA hasn't begun broadcasting in digital yet.
• V is in the middle of their channel change (please see previous messages).
• CJNT is done with their transition. They are using their final channel allotment at intended technical parameters.
• CBC, Radio-Canada and Global are still using their backup antennas. That should change sometime this fall, when they move to the upper platform on the Mount Royal tower.
Passepoil 2011-08-29, 04:37 PM downbeat, Radio-Canada won't change to the final setup this week? Will they boost the power this week?
Cantor 2011-08-29, 04:48 PM #noobquestion:
even if CBC aren't moving to their main antennas until later this fall, is their analog signal still being shut off on thursday?
downbeat 2011-08-29, 05:16 PM Analog should be going off, as per the transition deadline.
I'm not in the know for Mount Royal antenna work, but as I understand it, the work isn't finished for the UHF antenna on the upper platform. So for CBFT-DT, CBMT-DT and CKMI-DT, they will be operating as follows:
QC Montrėal TO 15 CKMI-DT-1 453020 -733530 257.9 61 8000 8000 476.00
QC Montrėal TO 19 CBFT-DT 453020 -733530 258.5 61 54970 54970 500.00
QC Montrėal TO 21 CBMT-DT 453020 -733530 258.5 61 57410 57410 512.00

Apple IIGS 2011-08-29, 11:36 PM Did a channel rescan tonight and CJNT-62.1 is coming in nice and strong here in NDG, however I've since lost CFCF-12.1.
It's been weak in the past, but never this bad. Had to switch back to analog 12 to watch CTV. Hopefully this is just part of their switch over in the next 2 days. Anyone else having trouble?
dorthensensens 2011-08-30, 12:18 AM Cfcf-dt is also coming in very weak for me as well.
johnvan 2011-08-30, 09:23 AM CFCF has been weak for me the last few days as well. I'm in Kirkland.
Yuprules 2011-08-30, 09:41 AM Same here CFCF 12-1 is really weak. Used to be 4-5 bars out of 10. Now it's 1 bar and unwatchable. CBC French 2-1 is also down to 1 bar instead of the insane 10 bars out of 10. 35-1 is also gone totally.
CJNT or "Metro" 62-1 signal is "ok" at 4 bars out of 10, are they playing 240p youtube videos (You'll notice it when it's that small screen with all the ads all around)? LOL
Global 15-1 is coming in at 4-5 bars as well out of 10.
Apple IIGS 2011-08-30, 01:49 PM I managed to get CFCF 12.1 back, for the time being. Using my second set of amplified rabbit ears, I ran the VHF dipoles through the UHF loop, with one of them also contacting my main antenna's VHF dipoles....and viola!
Technically only the UHF loop should have any effect, but my theory is the metal poles are catching the signal and redirecting towards the UHF loop. I had rigged something similar in order to catch CFCF 12.1 in the past.
I just hope by Thursday I can take that whole mess down and go back to my regular antenna for CFCF. It'd be nice to pick it up the channel as easily as CBC.
usefulidiot 2011-08-30, 07:42 PM Hello folks - I just tuned CKMI this morning - seemed to be working okay in the morning, I was getting signal lock, but later in the day I am getting atrocious signal which had dropped by more than 50%. Don't know if I'm the only one, if the signal is temporarily weak, or if I should just get used to not getting CKMI. Any thoughts? I live in Lasalle and am using a Terk indoor antenna...
SuperJ2 2011-08-30, 07:58 PM It seems WCAX-DT is lost forever for me after CBMT's transition from 20.1 to 21.1. (with my indoor antenna here in St-Laurent)
I wonder if petitioning the CRTC to switch CBMT back to 20.1 or some other channel would be worth a go? If not... I might have to move! :(
Anyone else have this problem?
tvlurker 2011-08-30, 08:00 PM Stations are not protected from interference outside their own country.
This applies equally to CBMT in Vermont and WCAX in Quebec.
