CBC (6.1) is transmitting from downtown Montreal for few days, instead of the top of the montain (Mont-Royal). This is why you can't catch it and people closer still have the signal. This is a temporary situation. Anyway September 1st is coming and the power will be higher. Don't forget to do a rescan in Sepember, they will move from channel 20 to 21.

Over on the French OTA forum, member L'inquisiteur informs us that there is work being done currently to install another backup antenna — this time for Global (CKMI-DT) — right next to the CBC and SRC backup antennas, on the north site under the main platform. Global will be using this antenna until the main UHF master antenna is ready at the top of the tower.

CBMT 6.1DT is back up Saturday morning, I am getting a signal strength of 100% while CBFT 2.1DT is only at around 80% still !

Interesting note on WNYF-DT (28.1 / rf 18) from Massena, NY.

Depending on the weather, I get this station in Montreal. If you get WNPI-DT (18.1 / rf23 ) you should check to see if there is anything on your TV's signal meter on rf18. Usually at night.

Basically, 28.1 is FOX in SD. While on 28.2 they run WWNY-DT channel 7 from Watertown,NY the CBS affiliate.

It seems that the station switches back and forth for it's HD. Last night, they aired Fringe in HD on 28.1, while 28.2 went to SD for the local news on WWNY. Interesting to see them do that.

And yes, CBMT-DT is back for me as well this week-end.

After watching WNYF again on Monday night, I'm not sure what is going on with this station. Are they squeezing in two 720p signals or is one of the two not in HD. During prime time on Monday, both images were full raster 16:9. Both seemed somewhat less crisp than the usual 1080i. Kinda like the difference between WETK 33.1, and WCFE 57.1.

I almost felt that the FOX image on 28.1 was of less quality than the CBS signal on 28.2. But the CBS quality seemed very much like WETK's 33.1

My Sharp does not indicate what the image size and format is for each stream, so, I have no way of knowing what is actually being sent out.


Also, CFTU-TV 29 seems to be off air. I've been getting nothing but snow on channel 29 for days.

Posted a question on the blog Tvlurker suggested. They confirmed that 28.1 is in 480, 28.2 is in 1080i.

I should have also asked what was the compression being used for each channel. The 28.1 seems better than most SD channels. And it's running at a full 16:9 raster.

is there something going on with CBFT (SRC), at my cottage southwest of Montreal, i get CBMT 6.1, solid at 80%, but no sign of CBFT (RF=19),

CBFT 2.1 has been off the air since early Monday morning.

they are not off the air, they are transmitting from the CBC building again, probably because they are installing the Global ch.15 antenna, who is nearby

I suggest you call Global at 1-877-307-1999 or submit a form via their contact us page (http://www.globaltv.com/About/ContactUs.html) so that they know you noticed.

You wouldn't want an executive to hear in a meeting that a transmitter was down for two days and no one complained. They might think that no one is watching OTA. :-(

CKMI Global ch 11 Sherbrooke HD is on the air right now, coming at 93% - 95% in Granby area.

Confirmed that dt Channel 11 is also coming in here, nice to see global in HD
