Hi, for present and future channel placements see the first two URL links in Post #7 of the FAQ:

According to DTV Tentative Channel Designations (http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DA-06-1082A2.pdf) on February 17, 2009:

WCAX-DT will move to 22 (currently occupied by WVNY-TV),
WETK-DT will stay on 32,
WFFF-DT will stay on 43,
WVNY-DT will stay on 13,
WCFE-DT will stay on 38, and
WPTZ-DT will stay on 14.

However, to the best of my knowledge, it hasn't been decided what will happen to the Canadian stations in 2011. Some hints as to what might happen though are:

VHF-LO (2-6) is problematic for DTV and will likely be avoided,
VHF-HI (7-13) is desirable and stations will fight to keep those channels, and
Channels 52-69 will be vacated.

Thanks Roger1818 and Stampeder

Makes buying or building a channel 13 antenna worth it this way.

Hopefully in 2009 we can then convince WVNY to request a change to channel 33 or 44 (which will be vacated).

Just out of general interest, I did a TV Signal Analysis on TV Fool (http://www.tvfool.com/) at 73° 35' W, 45° 30' N and received the following results for American digital stations (it isn't very useful for Canadian stations as it usually has the wrong ERP):

Callsign | Rx(dBm)
WCAX-DT | -64.6
WPTZ-DT | -68.1
WCFE-DT | -69.6
WETK-DT | -72.0
WFFF-DT | -75.7
WVNY-DT | -83.6

From this you can see that in Montreal, WVNY-DT is about 8dB weaker (approx. 1/6 the power) than the next strongest station (WFFF-DT). From this it is easy to see why people are having troubles receiving WVNY without a good outdoor VHF antenna.

It is important to note that in this analysis I used a generic location that has Line of Sight (LOS) to all stations and each person's exact location can have a huge effect on the actual results.

I just got around to permanently installing my Delhi 4BT-1483 into a corner of a room in my small condo and it's a shame I cannot get WVNY-DT. WFFF-DT, which is the next weakest station, is coming in at 94%. We have got to pressure WVNY to use another frequency.

It's because your Delhi 4BT-1483 is a UHF antenna (Ch 13 - 69 / 401 - 900 MHz) and WVNY is on channel 13 (211.25 MHz). You will need a VHF antenna or a Ch13 specific antenna.

I am well aware that the 4BT-1483 is a UHF antenna but it still should be able to get high VHF channels, just like the CM 4221.

The CM 4221 is not able to get high VHF (Not much more than a paper clip) But the CM 4228 is getting some high VHF.

My mistake... The 4228 is larger than the 4221, right?

Yes, the CM4228 is the same as 2 CM4221s or 2 Delhi 4BT-1483s joined together at the factory side-by-side.

It is the CM4228's odd structure that unintentionally allows it to get VHF-Hi.

The US Public TV station from Watertown NY, broadcasting from Colton NY
45 miles SW of Cornwall seems to have just increased its signal strength.
It is on channel 23 (identifying itself as 16.1, 16.2, 16.3). Let me know if people in Montreal or Laval can receive it now. It also just started broadcasting HD - it was single channel SD before.

It's difficult to tell if there any change, WNPI signal strength vary from 0% to 100% but I usually get 70% at night. What seem to kill (Let's say attenuate an already weak signal) the WNPI signal is WXXA (FOX) analog. I don't know why (I guess my tuner is really good) but I almost alway have a signal on 21 (WPXG ION analog) and 26 (WTEN-DT) the better those two (WXXA also but I usually cannot see it) are coming in the less I get WNPI. I will see if thing get better in 2009.

I receive that from WWBI:Thank you for inquiring about WWBI - TV 27. We are currently getting some
work done on our transmitter and should be back on the air within a month.
When we do turn the channel back on, the signal will be stronger and you
should be able to receive a better picture than before. Again, thank you for
taking the time to ask. Sincerely, Susan Clarke, WWBI - TV 27And to the question
Do you have a plan to convert to digital?
the answer:
We will be converting to digital but it won't be before next year.

Ok I think I found where WWBI 27 is going.

W14CK is / was the other transmiter of WWBI. Because it was on UHF 14 they were able to do an application to change channel (WPTZ-DT is on UHF 14). The new channel will be on UHF 47. (ERP 50kw) elev 3466 ft.

See FCC for W14CK (http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/cdbsmenu.hts?context=25&appn=101157153&formid=911&fac_num=64078)

I've put the coordinate in google earth of the new W14CK transmiter.

I was surprise to see that's on Mount Mansfield.

That's good news.

And WFFF-DT seem to be using their subchannel to broadcast CW stuff. I saw a "CW Burlington" logo last night on 44-2.

That's terrible news... If they will be robbing bandwidth from 44.1 the main FOX HD channel.

44-2 is 480i from what I can see. 44-1 is stil 720p, so I think there's enough bandwidth to go around. Too bad. Was looking forward to watching Smallville in HD, but at least I can watch it at 8pm instead of 10pm.
