: OTA Station Status: Ottawa, Watertown NY, S. Colton NY
tigerbangs 2005-05-22, 09:54 AM It's interesting that Rogers is applying for two out-of-town DTV signals, and no sign of when CHRO-DT, which is local to Ottawa, will build their DTV transmitter. Rogers built a large media complex a few years ago in the Byward Market, two blocks from our place, and I have to wonder whether or not there was any consideration given at the time to DTV broadcasting.

CHRO is owned by Chum Media Limited, Omni.1/2 are owned by Rogers.
Here is probably where the discrepancy lies. Chum has been extremely slow in rolling out -DT transmitters...to my knowledge, only City Toronto and City Vancouver have them???
Maybe it has to do with the purchase of the Craig A-Channels and they're running into a cash crunch? Other than T1 are there any other A-Channels that are running an OTA DTV signal?
Sarke 2005-09-17, 09:26 PM Does anyone know when it will be on the air, and how has the strike affected its launch?
Sarke 2005-09-24, 06:52 PM Anyone? All I knew was that it was scheduled for a September launch.
alebowgm 2005-09-24, 07:50 PM Odds are the strike has affected the launch...
stampeder 2005-10-03, 01:51 PM That's correct, CBC-HD was scheduled to be up in Vancouver by now on channel 58 with SRC-HD on 16. After completing that installation the plan was to tackle Ottawa next, then keep going across Canada. Now that the CBC strike has apparently been settled we'll hopefully see the DTV stations in Vancouver and Ottawa come up in the near future... http://www.digitalhomecanada.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31444
Not yet. December at the earliest.

MarcThanks for that Marc. Would that 3 month delay be compounded to affect all future CBC digital upgrades?

Not necessarily. The installations do not have to be linear.
I don't have any dates to offer right now.
aholtzma 2006-01-04, 10:09 PM Any update on the Ottawa schedule?

aholtzma 2006-01-16, 01:58 PM A little bird told me that two ATSC transmitters for Ottawa were ordered in the last week or two. Given the lead time on those items is at least 8-12 wks, we'll probably see the antenna lit up maybe by early June. I hope no-one was holding their breath!
cheers,
aaron
stampeder 2006-01-16, 02:24 PM I take it that would be one for CBC-HD and one for SRC-HD in Ottawa, aaron? Great info!
otown47 2006-01-16, 02:39 PM I wonder if the antennas will be at Camp Fortune?
stampeder 2006-01-16, 02:45 PM Someone mentioned Camp Fortune before, so if you know its Lat. and Long. I dumped the present and future Ottawa stations from Industry Canada's database:

Can you tell where CBC-HD will be from this? It looks like the new ones will be co-located with the old ones, wherever they are.
aholtzma 2006-01-16, 03:12 PM I suspect that the pair of transmitters is indeed split between english and french broadcasts. Pretty much everything VHF/UHF transmitter in Ottawa is up on
the Camp Fortune tower, here's a Google maps link:

otown47 2006-01-16, 03:13 PM It could be that 453011 755102 is Camp Fortune but not according to maps.google.
The Camp fortune tower is 45.5029 -75.8500
old sparks 2006-01-17, 02:09 PM It could be that 453011 755102 is Camp Fortune but not according to maps.google.
The Camp fortune tower is 45.5029 -75.8500I suspect that the Industry Canada position is in degrees, minutes and seconds, where you are using decimal minutes.
45 deg 30' N is 45.5N, and
75 deg 51W is 75.85W
stampeder 2006-01-17, 02:16 PM That settles it then, CBC/SRC Ottawa's new ATSC transmitters and antennas will be co-located with the analogs at Camp Fortune.
tigerbangs 2006-01-20, 02:06 PM Ottawa has two transmitter locations: many of the transmitters are located at Camp Fortune, including CBC, SRC, CTV, Global, CHCH, TVO, and TV5 but there is also a large tower in Manotick, south of the city about 20KM away that carries many UHF stations, including CHRO, CITY, OMNI-1 and OMNI-2, CITS, CDTV, the eperimental digital station, and a couple of others I can't think of at the moment...all together, Ottawa has 14 OTA signals: more, I believe, than any other city in Canada.
