Maybe, although WJBK-DT 7 will only be licensed at 15kw. There is a difference in allowed power levels between east coast and west coast though. KTTV Los Angeles has an application for 115kw at 920m.

Who wants to bet they will be fielding calls on June 13th from viewers who have a VHF antenna yet are still receiving WJBK less reliably than all the other Detroit stations?

I was sent updates by several great OTA Forum members but my PM box overflowed and I lost them - my humble apologies!!!

Please help me update the original list by adding any changes that need to be done. Post in this thread, not in a PM.

It is very helpful if you submit such changes in the same format as shown in the original post.

cheers! :)

We can add WEWS-DT to the list of DTV channels.

5.1 15 WEWS-DT ABC-HD (720p) Cleveland, OH

lots of poor signal quality. But we were able to watch nearly 2 hours with dancing with the stars ;p.

Analogue channels no longer in service:

20 WDWB My Detroit, MI
31 WPXD ION Detroit, MI

Analogue channel missed:

22 CIII Global Stevenson, Ont

There are other low power ones, but probably not worth adding.

(Ringtailed Fox wrote): "WJBK-TV claims they will keep the same coverage area as they did on channel 2 (analog) and 58 (temporary digital)... with a coverage area from chatham, sarnia, and leamington, out to flint, toledo, and jackson, i highly doubt that will be done with anything under 400 kW. 65 kW won't even cover the metro detroit area... i doubt Fox Television Stations Group (owner of the station) knows what they are doing...."

Actually, 27 kW on channel 7 (the eventual post-transition power of WJBK-TV when they can take down the channel 2 antenna at the top of the tower and replace it with a directional channel 7 antenna) will carry a greater distance than 1000kW on channel 58 in normal conditions, since VHF can (to some extent) continue past the visual horizon.

That doesn't mean I think Fox made the right choice in going to channel 7 for DTV. Channel 20 (which was their alternate choice) or 50 would have been better, less susceptible to interference from consumer products and lighting, and would have been on UHF like all other Detroit DTVs, meaning nobody would have needed a large antenna.

Someone said they picked up W35AX from Cleveland on the south side of London... since that's a Class-A low-power repeater station and that's pretty far, should that be included?

RingtailedFox/Stampeder:

Unless I don't correctly understand the table in the sticky thread, I think a few edits are needed to the list of digital Windsor/Detroit stations on June 13, 2009:

WJBK 2.1 and 2.2 will move their actual digital signals from 58.1 and 58.2 to 7.1 and 7.2 (on June 12?)

WTOL 11.1 and 11.2 will move their actual digital signals from 17.1 and 17.2 to 11.1 and 11.2 (on June 12?)

WJRT 12 also currently has subchannels that will presumably continue (12.2 - News and 12.3 Weather)

WTVG 13.1, 13.2 and 13.3 will move their actual digital signals from 19.1, 19.2 and 19.3 to 13.1, 13.2 and 13.3 (on June 12?)

WEYI 25.1 currently has its actual digital signal on 30.1, and it will stay there

WPXD was originally on 31 (so it would be 31.1-31.4, not 33.1-33.4?) and they recently shut off their analog 31 signal and moved their actual digital signals from 33.1-33.4 to 31.1-31.4. They also have an application to move their digital signal to actual 19 (still pending). Station is licensed to Ann Arbor, MI.

WADL was originally 38.1 and 38.2 (corresponding to original analog 38), instead of 39.1 and 39.2 (and both are licensed to Mt. Clemens, MI)

Also, WUDT-CA 23 has a construction permit for digital 8, broadcasting from Southfield, MI

Much of this is verifiable at: http://www.fcc.gov/mb/video/tvq.html

In the format of the table:

2.1 7.1 WJBK-DT FOX-HD Detroit, MI Southfield, MI
2.2 7.2 WJBK-DT FOX-SD Detroit, MI

23.1 8.1 WUDT-LD UNI Detroit, MI Southfield, MI

11.1 11.1 WTOL-DT CBS Toledo, OH Oregon, OH
11.2 11.2 WTOL-DT News-SD Toledo, OH

12.2 12.2 WJRT-DT News-SD Flint, MI
12.3 12.3 WJRT-DT WTHR

13.1 13.1 WTVG-DT ABC Toledo, OH Oregon, OH
13.2 13.2 WTVG-DT TV+ Toledo, OH
13.3 13.3 WTVG-DT WTHR Toledo, OH

25.1 30.1 WEYI-DT NBC Flint, MI Clio, MI

31.1 31.1 WPXD-DT ION Ann Arbor, MI Ann Arbor, MI
31.2 31.2 WPXD-DT IND Ann Arbor, MI
31.3 31.3 WPXD-DT IND Ann Arbor, MI
31.4 31.4 WPXD-DT IND Ann Arbor, MI

38.1 39.1 WADL-DT IND Mt. Clemens, MI Mt. Clemens, MI
38.2 39.2 WADL-DT IND Mt. Clemens, MI

Hope this is helpful...

The CRTC doesn't want canadians purchasing advertisement airtime on american stations, right? well... i think they haven't been paying attention down here, becuase for the past year or so, WKBD-TV (The CW 50 Detroit) has been airing a TON of commercials for stores on Erie Street here in Windsor... and it's only been increasing in recent months... Could this be why CHWI-TV is failing?

note to stampeder: can you implement Emerald_Boar and gcd0865's updates? as well, i forgot that WJBK is moving from 58 to 7 after June 12... that must be included as well... i don't want detroiters and windsorites getting static or "NO SIGNAL" after that date... :)

Bad news for those who were waiting for WPXD-DT (Ion) to move to channel 19 with a Southfield transmitter site.

The FCC has refused to allocate channel 19 to Ann Arbor, to protect a Channel 19 assignment at London, Ontario.

I Don't know what will happen to WPXD at this point. One wonders if they will have the guts to ask for channel 4 from a Southfield tower site.

it's cool. sleep is a required necessity. :)

i also have an update for Windsor/Detroit/Toledo viewers... the CBC will NOT be shutting down CBET-TV 9 for now... they said they'll be cutting other areas instead.

does this mean that they finally consider the windsor/detroit area to be of high importance? a LOT of detroiters watch CBET, especially during the olympics

54.1 WQLN from Erie has their new tower running and it's now broadcasting at full power. WQLN is licensed to serve Erie & London. They will be shutting off their analog mid April. I believe that WJET24 & Erie's channel 22 is going to be using this tower also and they will shut down their old analog tower on April 16th or 17th. Buffalo's WNED17 will also be shutting down analog at that time. With all of these analog broadcasts gone and CH's power adjustments today, maybe we will get 24,22 & 54 as regulars.

Yet its okay for Toronto and London on 19.Its okay for Toronto to have an Fm on the same frequency as Buffalo less than 60 miles between transmitters and cause interference on the on the US side within the area the US station serves. Its time the FCC starts doing the same objections to everything on the Canadian side.
