Phil81 2010-01-08, 05:47 PM From what I have been reading, this future increase for WNWO is for to deal with WDLI's up coming channel change. Channel 49 was a poor choice considering the (lack of) distance.
WDLI/WNWO are not physically far enough apart to prevent a co-channel issue IMO. It will take very little enhancement to destroy WNWO-DT around here especially during warmer months.
I made these observations on a great deal of days/nights since last spring/summer/fall...
ERP of WDLI-dt is currently 200kW on RF39 just west of Akron OH, which can easily destroy WADL-dt Mt. Clemens/Detroit where I am, with even light night time propagation or tropo.
Heck, WEAO PBS is 89 miles to the SE almost next door to WDLI's tower, and when they were still on analog 49 it destroyed WNWO many nights.
Just my observations down here not too far inland from Lake Erie.
DigitalRocks 2010-01-09, 07:59 PM Thanks for that info - I looked up those applications on the FCC site.
Here's WNWO 49 Toledo's application to double their ERP from 59kW to 118kW:
http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/pubacc/prod/app_det.pl?Application_id=1335788
Note to readers that "accepted" means "application accepted from the station on this date" and not "approved". ;)
WUPW 46 Toledo has had an application to almost double their ERP from 110kW to 200kW since the middle of 2008:
http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/pubacc/prod/app_det.pl?Application_id=1251242
If both of those applications went through that would be great.... I currently have no issues picking up WNWO even in the winter, its quite strong and very consistent with my current setup. If WDLI upped thier ERP I assume WNWO would do the same to stay on par like Phil said...
WUPW on the other hand is only available here and there for me, that would be nice if they were more powerful. Sounds like that application went through a long time ago though?
Emerald_Boar 2010-01-14, 01:06 PM Sad News.
It seems that SunTV (London) doesnt have a channel 19-2. Currently, It just BLANK. Instead of being a repeat of whats on 19-1.
Hopefully, when it does return (channel 19-2) that SunTV. The programing will either be timeshifted by 1 (or more) hours. Or that they have some different programing on it.

That isn't going to happen. To do that they would need to apply for another license. The purpose of the SD sub-channel was to replace the need for an analog broadcast. It is possible that they determined that it isn't necessary so they dropped the SD sub-channel. I will do some investigating.

Confirmed. I received the following response:
We're moving to eliminate the SD sub channel in London and Ottawa; it should disappear completely baring any complications within the next few weeks. Once we do so we'll be able to increase the bit rate for the HD signal.
Emerald_Boar 2010-01-15, 02:23 PM hmmmm.
I prefer to have a timeshifted sub channel.
However, Why would it be a problem by timeshifting a channel? Its still the same programming, just delayed. (There may be a little cancon prime time problem. That shouldnot be a problem with proper program placement.)
Anyways, thanks for the info,
Al.
Emerald_Boar 2010-01-20, 06:24 PM Well, its offical 19-2 is GONE from London!
Good news is SunTV is still broadcasting 19-1 with 1080i quality.

That's fine, but what's the point?? When Suntv broadcasts movies (which some titles they constantly repeat), almost all of them are broadcasted in 4:3 aspect ratio.
I wish some other OTA channels (such as CBC, Global, CTV, OMNI1 & 2) in the London area will convert to DTV OTA HD soon!

OMNI 1 & 2 were supposed to be next, be their application didn't come with the last batch for the Rogers stations. Believe me I check the CRTC website every day
Nester5000 2010-02-05, 10:10 PM WPXD's 31.4 has been missing all week. The other 3 subs are still there. Maybe in prep for their move.
Phil81 2010-02-06, 03:14 AM WPXD's 31.4 has been missing all week. The other 3 subs are still there. Maybe in prep for their move.I don't ever get WPXD anyways but do occasionally get ION from Akron. It's the same there as ION dropped x.4 from all affiliates nationwide last Sunday.
Additional explanation here (source: http://www.worship.net/article/january-2010-newsletter/)
"Dear friends,
Thank you for your support of The Worship Network. We wanted you to be the first to know about some recent developments in our ministry.
Due to changes in our contractual relationship with ION, The Worship Network will no longer be available on the ION digital multi-cast platform effective midnight January 31, 2010.
Our relationship with PAX/ION has been in place for close to 18 years, and during that time Worship has been able to impact millions of people's lives. We are grateful to Bud Paxson and to PAX/ION for the many years we have been available through their extensive broadcast reach around the country. However, primarily due to ION's bankruptcy filing in May of 2009, Worship’s future relationship with them became more uncertain."
Nester5000 2010-02-12, 09:33 PM Thanks for the info. Can't say as I'll miss it anyway.
DigitalRocks 2010-03-22, 04:48 PM I had no idea WDLI was moving to 49.........are you talking about WADL from mt Clemens? why would they allow that being that it is so close to Toledo? That sucks huge. WNWO is a regular for me, always at approx 50%50-70% signal. Although it doesn't really give me any more programming that WDIV detroit provides.... WNWO doesn't show any syndicated HD programming, that really bugs me. So anytime something is on NBC i just watch WDIV anyhow being that the signal is more consistent.
Phil81 2010-03-22, 06:58 PM I had no idea WDLI was moving to 49.........are you talking about WADL from mt Clemens?WDLI is the TBN station in Akron and they are currently at 200kW on 39 which already destroys WADL here frequently. WADL is staying on 39.
Many who get WNWO here in the county will loose it a lot due to future WDLI on 49 at 900kW. Having co-channel stations (one very weak and one a torch) within 90 miles of each other will be a death sentence.
I have no idea why this was approved by the FCC late last year.
Gentleman 2010-03-27, 01:53 PM Anyone know what happened to WQLN 54 from Erie?
No signal here from them and their website is gone.
ota_canuck 2010-03-27, 02:24 PM Sounds like a major local power blackout or they have had an onsite issue requiring all power to be shut off. They host their own WQLN webpage onsite which would also blackout with loss of hydro. Obviously their backup power generator must have failed failed.
ota_canuck 2010-03-27, 03:12 PM Quick reply from WQLN engineering:
No worries...we are getting our guy wires replaced on our tower. The transmitter has to be powered down for the tower crews safety. It may be off and for the next few days.
Gentleman 2010-03-27, 04:44 PM I can understand them having to shut off power to the transmitter to work on the tower, but it's strange that their web page is gone too at the same time.
Looks like I'm gonna miss my "This old house hour" tonight.
ota_canuck 2010-03-27, 05:13 PM Like I said earlier. The WQLN webpage is hosted onsite. Computer's need power. If there's no power onsite during maintenance work, then no website hosting can be available until the power can be restored. The main PBS site should still work, it's just the onsite WQLN.org hosted pages that won't be available.
Nester5000 2010-03-27, 09:31 PM Low power station ch. 66 seems to be MIA now.
