: OTA Station Status: Vancouver, Victoria (Closed - use 2011)

It appears it was approved "in part" because the old framework for licensing has been revised since their application.
Do they go on air as CKVU-TV or CKVU-DT? I am not sure the CRTC has ever mandated PSID for stations. They were licenced with an amendment to their "TV" licence.
Hopefully someone can give a time estimation now.
levibluewa 2010-02-24, 02:58 PM Anxiously awaiting the digital feed of CKVU. Any rumors circulating on the digital future of CHEK6, or CIVI17?
keithr386 2010-02-24, 10:53 PM I sent the following to Rogers earlier today:
I see that the CRTC has given partial approval for your application to
make CKVU a digital channel. When might we see the new digital broadcast?
Here is the reply I received:
Hi Keith - we are going to start testing asap. Once testing is completed we have to wait for Industry Canada to issue us a broadcast certificate and then we'll be up and running (off air that is...). Cable carriage could take a while depending on how fast Shaw wants to move on carrying us. You should be able to get the signal during testing though if you have a digital antenna.
Broadcast available during testing. Nice! Time to start rescanning.....
danbcman 2010-02-25, 12:13 AM I look forward to the new station thanks for your energy in getting good updates Keith
stampeder 2010-02-25, 02:52 AM I've been monitoring channel 47 and so far nothing.
stampeder 2010-02-25, 02:55 AM From about 10pm on, the signal level on 58 (CBUT-DT 2.1) was jumping rapidly from about 85% to 0% and back again on my signal meter. The bit error rate was a perfect zero, but the SNR was fluctuating at the same pace as the signal level so I believe there was a problem at the CBC's transmitter or perhaps with the feed it was getting.
Anyone else see that? CBUT-DT is back to normal now at 23:50.
danbcman 2010-02-25, 08:08 AM Well for me 58.1 was jumppy but a bit earlier during the day, at the moment the Canada game started I lost 33.1 and 20.1 when this happens the rest of the stations I get are also wierd flucktuating anyways the moment the Canada game was done all returned again normal. Up to the olympics I was on the road to OTA only after the many failures my better half vettod dropping any services from cable. There is something wierd going on but what or why can't say right now

Call Letters go with Industry Canada's Broadcasting Certificate, not with the CRTC's license.
Licenses generally are issued when the programming service is the same across all transmitters, but it does allow for each transmitter to have its own call letters. So CKVU in digital would still be CKVU-DT, as it will have its own broadcasting certificate, even though it will operate under the same CRTC Broadcasting License as CKVU-TV.
But all this has nothing to do with what will show up in the PSIP. Could be CITY-TV.
Hi Stamp,
Indeed we noticed the same CBUT behaviour around 10pm. I had to make the cutover to back-up (low-def satellite).
This morning Animal Mechanicals was coming in clear on CBUT 2.1.
vcrite 2010-03-01, 09:30 PM It looks like Global (CHAN) fixed their PSIP. Just before the News Hour started, it re-mapped to Channel 8-1 and the listings are populated including the description field.
7:20 pm - Reverted back to 22-1
Using Samsung TV
danbcman 2010-03-02, 01:55 PM I did a scan and got CKVU.
47.1 remaps to 10.1
90% signal for me
stampeder 2010-03-02, 02:22 PM Yep, looks like a simple patch of their analogue feed over to the new transmitter but we'll see how things go. Nice to see. :)
Channel is 47.1 remapping to 10.1
Signal strength seems about the same as CHAN-DT's at my location - nice and strong but a bit below CBUT-DT's and better than CIVT-DT's and CHNM-DT's.
levibluewa 2010-03-02, 03:26 PM with a signal strength of 84. What a nice present.
Cockroach 2010-03-02, 04:21 PM I get 100% (same as CBC) on a north-facing high point in Vancouver.
danbcman 2010-03-02, 04:56 PM I would like to know what the patch would be.
I think I get it now
I get it as strong as chan and cbc, that is in the Como Lake area of Coquitlam
ardsa 2010-03-03, 01:30 AM Looks like they are in HD and 5.1 during "Parenthood" tonight. I just flipped passed but it looked good.
Day one broadcasting HD!
Karyudo 2010-03-03, 01:45 AM I don't know how strong the signal is (haven't checked), but it's now set up and running fine in my Vista Media Center!
danbcman 2010-03-03, 01:47 AM 33.1 how is ctv signal right now 1046pm for you mine is 13%
nukdoc 2010-03-03, 02:14 PM Now that CKVU is coming in crystal clear OTA, anyone have any idea when the A-Channel, SRC-French, or CHEK will convert to digital transmission? And will Joy-TV be converting as well? I can't even pick them up in analogue.
