No, because

- that costs money, too
- as few as the analog OTA viewers are, there are probably more of them than digital OTA viewers

Anyone else noticing Channel 17 CIVI picture to be fairly noisy? Sort of like subtle white bars moving through the picture.
Just want to make sure it is not just my TV.

I'm seeing the same thing on 17 too from North Delta. I just checked their CATV signal and its fine on cable.

Definitely something at their end then. The bars seem to be happening on a lot of scan lines at a time and they don't move up or down, they just flicker randomly. I wonder if their transmitter output to the antenna is fluctuating?

I Just received an email from Rogers on their application. Apparently they have been told that their application is fine but the CRTC is backlogged, so they will not likely hear back on a firm "go ahead" until the end of February.

I see the same problem with Channel 17 CIVI picture. I think something like it happened a little while back but it stopped like the next day. This is just a naive guess but maybe some component was failing and is kaput now.

What, did the lack of no snow get to their transmitter? Signal strength 95, video is black, no audio.

CIVI is OK now though, perhaps the problem with CIVT-DT is related to fixing the problem with CIVI?

dbarron that's a good guess because if the situation involved work on the actual antenna then all the transmissions from it have to stop to protect the workers from RF burns/radiation. I don't know if that's what actually happened, but its plausible.

There is certainly something going on today too at about 20pm 33.1 just dropped right off no signal and it is gone for me anyways and Global is barely good enough for a lock this happened last night to me too and this morning it was all fine till 2ish ?

Well for me I an at 712pm no signal.
As it was not mentioned last night by anyone I figured it was me so I bought a Wintv 1250, removed old pre amp - installed a new pre amp replaced coax cabling. After all that I ended with the same missing station.

Glad I had a good time doing that as it really a hassel.

So the one station I want for the Oly Show is for me gone very sad as I also picked up two 1.5 tb drives last summer for the room of storage of the Oly Show best laid plans it seems. I can only hope they are busy doing some kind of upgrade or related thing that will be over with soon but I fear it may be my sweet spot for aiming may for some reason have shifted just past my ability to get it.

CIVT dropped out again this afternoon at 4:30pm. The signal was strong but the picture was all vertical bars.

At 8:10pm I checked the picture and the transmission was on again.

Any one else have a similar experience?

Really got caught out on this CTV down time today
Hadnt used my roof aerial for a while, but need it to get CTV (Superbowl and Olympics)
Found the rotor motor was broken on aerial, had to take aerial down to replace the motor, then found I could not get CTV!

At first I thought it was a problem at my end, so wasted lots of time checking wiring and connections, had kinda given up, before I finally checked in here and found posts about bad CTV srervice today

At 6am everything is back to normal all stations are as they were a few days ago strong signal and solid stream. What ever it was it kicked off 33.1 and for me made aiming for my usuall stations impossible iether I would get 58.1 and 22.1 but loose 20.1 if I aimed and got 20.1 I would then loose 58.1 and 22.1 and no 33.1 in iether setings the signals were lockable but the streams on the tv were poor freezing and breaking up the results were all the same for three different tuners. So I settled in on aiming for 22.1 and let things stay that way, and this morning all is well.
I gave CTV Vancouver a call last night and spoke with the news dept and was told no engeneers on week ends so no info there. My guess is some hardware work related to some epuipment for the 2010 event?

8*am 22.1 crashes ota and shaw cable 199 a wierd grid pasttern solid frozen frame good audio though. 803am OTA 22.1 and Shaw cable 199 return to normal. Interesting couple of days. The other OTA stations remained good :)

325pm 33.1 signal for me goes to 0% wierd all day perfect then just before the game bye...0%

Ok, I'm a little confused here. You guys are talking about stations at 33-1 and 22-1. Those are the station numbers that Tivo has changed my lineup to but there is no content on those channels (or on 58-1, the other station that was changed). Are you guys saying that you get content on those channels? I only get black. BTW, I know this isn't a Tivo thread but I have had no luck getting it changed back so I can have guide data for the OTA channels again. They just keep sending messages to 'the lineup team'. Is there something that they could do so I actually get content on those 33-1 etc channels instead of the 32-1, 8-1 and 2-1 channels?

faston and clip, here are the real, actual RF channels of the Vancouver digital TV stations, followed by their virtual remap numbers (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showpost.php?p=377665&postcount=15):
CHNM-DT OMNI 20.1 42.1
CHAN-DT Global 22.1 8.1
CIVT-DT CTV 33.1 32.1
CBUT-DT CBC 58.1 2.1
If your Tivo is not remapping properly there is a problem with it because all other standard ATSC tuners are doing the remaps properly.

Both of you might want to post about your remapping troubles in here: TiVos for HD OTA in Canada (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=95819&highlight=tivo) so that other members become aware of potential problems.

My reception for 33.1 is now back as long at 86% as I re-aim my antenna almost 90 degrees to where I recieved it before, with this re aiming I do still get cbc 58.1 at 86% how ever the rest of my reception is border line locks and drops oh well this adventure was for the Oly show.

It should be noted my reception is from reflections not line of site.

clip:

It happened to me on Jan 27th.

I have called 5 times and they have never blamed my Tivo, but they have said that all they can do is send it to their lineup specialists. Yesterday, on my 5th phone call, they escalated it to ACS (advanced customer service) so I'm hoping that they will fix it soon. It's going to be a pain in the butt for the olympics if I don't have guide data.

Stampeder: I'll find that thread and post there.
